   Oh Captain, Thy Captain's Blurbs
About me:

Rex, Clone Designation Number CT-7567, was a veteran Clone Captain, Clone Commander, and certified Advanced Recon Commando who commanded the Grand Army of the Republic's famed 501st Legion of Clone Troopers during the Clone Wars under Jedi Knight/Jedi General Anakin Skywalker. After the rise of the Empire, he later served as a Captain and eventually Commander within the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War.

He participated in many battles over the course of the Clone Wars. As the Captain of the 501st, Rex served as second-in-command to Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, whose bravery and unconventionality in battle the two came to share. In addition to being a close friend of Skywalker, he also became friends with Skywalker's Togruta Jedi Padawan Learner, Ahsoka Tano. He was close with Marshal Commander Cody, with their relationship mirroring that of their respective Jedi Generals, Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, whom Rex was also well acquainted with. Rex and his companions often worked together during the front-line campaigns against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Throughout his career, Rex proved to be an effective leader who truly cared for the men under his command, even as he began to doubt his own futureโ€”and those of his Clone brothersโ€”in the Republic. His leadership was put to the ultimate test at the Battle of Umbara, when he was forced to lead the 501st Legion under the obstinate and aggressive Basilisk Jedi General Pong Krell, who was secretly a Separatist Agent. Rex's experiences with Krell forced him to reappraise his rigid adherence to orders, however, this had not been the first time Rex had questioned his purpose and orders.

A notable example had been during the Battle of Saleucami, when he allowed the Clone Deserter, Cut Lawquane, to stay out of the war.

Rex used his combat skills and training to help train local insurgents on Onderon to emancipate their world.

The Captain's faith in the Republic was sorely tested by events such as the framing of Tano and the murder of his longtime friend and comrade, ARC-27-5555 'Fives', who had gone rogue after unearthing an anti-Jedi directive that had been bred into all the Republic's Clone Troopers.

Fives's death led him to uncover his inhibitor chip, which enabled him and his longtime friend Ahsoka to escape Order 66 after the Siege of Mandalore at the end of the Clone Wars.

Fifteen years later, after living on Seelos with fellow Clones Captain CT-5576 Gregor and Commander CC-3636 Wolffe, Rex joined the Phoenix Cell and reunited with his old friend Tano. Rex also became a reliable ally of the 'Specters' rebel cell and forged enduring friendships with the Great Jedi Purge survivor Kanan Jarrus (Caleb Dume) and his Apprentice, Ezra Bridger, as well as the rest of the Ghost Crew.

During the early stages of the Rebellion, Rex would use his skills and knowledge to help advance the Rebel Alliance's cause. He was eventually promoted to the rank of Commander once again and fought in the climactic Battle of Endor, which saw the first death of Emperor Palpatine, the redemption of his former Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and the destruction of the second Death Star.

I hope you'll forgive me for the belated birthday wish, Rex, but happy birthday all the same! Thank you for being such a good friend to me all these years. It still astounds me that we've known and grown with each other, and I couldn't ask for a better supporter by my side. I hope you had the best birthday, one that you deserve. You are loved here and beyond, and I hope you never forget that.

Happy birthday, buddy! Let's hope it was the best one yet!

Thank you, as always for the love and support.

I take no offense when things get busy or hard, so no worries there.

I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends and people who feel like family to turn to when I need a place to vent and escape.ย  You've all been so good to me and I appreciate it every waking moment.

You have my love and support in turn, and I hope you all know how grateful I am to have known and grown with all of you as well!

In the aftermath of the Galaxy's well-deserved success against the oppressive ways of the now-defunct Empire, the various factions that worked in harmony for one solitary goal reveled in the opportunity to clean up the mess left in the wake of the demise of Imperial oppression. In the heart of the operation, the irony that the assault was spearheaded by the children of Darth Vader would not be exposed for many years to come, but it was not only his precious offspring that took part in the liberation of the downtrodden: various pieces of Anakin Skywalker's fractured past all worked in their own ways to stamp out the darkness that his pain ushered in, Force-sensitive and otherwise, and soldiers with no place to call home.

His beloved Captain Rex was no exception.

In his heart, Anakin felt it was appropriate for his conscience to fade, to allow the Galaxy its righteous unity, and prevent any potential undue influence by his hand from tarnishing the exceptional work carried out by keepers of the peace. However, upon becoming one with the Force that had given him life to begin with, he had begrudgingly accepted a hard truth: for as cruel of a father the Force may be, its will was absolute, that the cogs of fate had played its hand, and he was an unwitting servant in the Force's ultimate pursuit of balance. Although the pain he was made to endure paled in comparison to the horrors he carried out at his late, former master's behest, his disenchantment with his predetermined course in both life and death was nearly all-consuming.

Had it not been for Obi-Wan Kenobi's steadfast support as they joined hands in the next phase of their existence as Force entities, he might have willed his spirit to fade entirely.

"Remember, Anakin. He will not be able to hear you, to see you..."

Obi-Wan's cautionary tale echoes as he bears witness to a sight so endearing that, if he were able to, tears of joy would flow freely down features that were hardened by a sham of a war and a permanent cage to follow. Before him laid to rest one of the most chivalrous souls he has even been blessed to have in his former life, idly snoozing after a laborious day assisting the native species of Endor to rebuild their splintered way of life. As his beloved Captain Rex stirred quietly in his sleep, Anakin can't help but notice the various effects littered around the area, pieces with sentimental value that Anakin would recognize without hesitation: his helmet that had seen more battles than it should; dog tags that he seemed to have collected over the years while fighting for freedom; his duel blasters that he fondly recalls Rex would not allow him to tinker with for maximum damage, a memory that curls his lips into an amused grin his former captain might recognize from a distant past. His presence was not to startle him, or attempt to reach out to him; rather, he simply wanted to see for himself that Rex had survived the carnage he had wrought, and find some way to express his sorrow of the pain he was made to endure.

"I'm glad you survived it all, Rex," he whispers as his transparent form crouches at his bedside, admiring him with both sadness and admiration; he wonders if Rex is aware that he fought alongside his daughter in the field, or that the small statured, blond boy who worked to inspire the masses was his son, both of which he was immensely proud of. "Then again, you were one of mymen, so that makes sense," he laughs, but it doesn't take long before he becomes serious again.

"If I could take it all back, Rex, I would. You didn't deserve what happened to you, nor did your brothers. To know I caused you unimaginable pain is unforgivable. I can never make it right, Rex, but... I hope that you, and Ahsoka can find peace now that it's finally over."

He can hear Obi-Wan whispering from the plane of existence that they now call home, beckoning his return, but before he goes, he places his hand to Rex's forehead, offering him respite from potential nightmares that may disrupt him. It's not much, but if anything, he hopes Rex can feel his apology.

"Look out for my children, Rex... just as you always did for me. It's not an order from your general... but a request from a friend who never deserved you to begin with."

He fades after, but traces of his presence linger, leaving behind a tattered holo of himself, Rex, and Ahsoka during one of their many missions together. Although light was difficult to find during war's horror, his saving grace had always been his beloved men.

He stood at the pyre and watched the now cold ashes flutter in the breeze and swirl in aimless funnels between the seemingly endless rows of giant trees.ย  There was very little of anything left of the body that had been ceremoniously cremated on that spot.ย  Only a melted, wrinkled and warped fraction of a helmet had survived the blaze and remained to mark the final resting place of a man whom had once been so admired and praised for his skills with saber and aircraft...

What was left behind was hardly the representation of Anakin Skywalker that Rex had been hoping for.

All the former Clone Captain -now Rebel Commander- could ask himself was: what happened?

What happened to the formidable and witty General he'd once served under?

What happened to the beloved man whom had defied much of the Jedi Codes, and yet upheld their core beliefs and practices?

What happened to the shining 'Chosen One' of the Force meant to restore balance and peace?

What happened in those four years together to breed such hatred, malice, and violence that such a man of resolution, dignity and determination would fall so far into the depths of the Dark Side he'd kill his own wife and saught to destroy the very people who'd freed him from slavery as a child and given him a chance when no other would?

What happened to Anakin Skywalker to make him morph into the dreaded Darth Vader despite all the effort by Rex himself to support and even guide the young man he'd considered a brother and best friend?

When Ahsoka had first mentioned to him that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, he'd been in complete denial.ย  His former Commander had never lied to him before and certainly wouldn't pull such a sick and demented prank.ย  That was too low even for her usually playful and tricky mind.

Confirmation and finally acceptance came when General Luke Skywalker returned from the second Death Star with the body of said Sith Lord.ย  While his face was mangled from age and the flames of Mustafar, it was still recognizable to Rex as his former superior.ย  He knew and the truth was so painful he'd nearly ended his own life just to avoid feeling such agony anymore.

It had been one thing to find out the twin children of his beloved General were his new superiors.ย  He'd never been told they were even born and survived.ย  He'd known of the pregnancy of their birth mother, but anything further had been kept from him by no fault of those who did know.ย  He'd been part of the fall of the Republic and birth of the Empire, and it was presumed he too had perished beside Ahsoka Tano after the Siege of Mandalore.ย  Seeking him out seemed redundant in those years and even those who'd reconnected and were fully aware of the birth of the Skywalker Twins had never told him.

The briefing before the Battle of Endor finally revealed the son, Luke.ย  The debriefing after and Ahsoka confirming revealed Leia's relationship to Luke and Anakin.

He found himself nearly bursting with joy to not only realize the offspring of his General and Senator Amidala had survived, but that there were two and both had brought redemption to the horrifying truth was more than Rex could bear.

The rebuilding projects were now complete and the Rebellion was set to depart Endor by the end of that rotation.ย  It had taken those long months stationed there to finally step before the site.ย  He'd needed to process everything that had happeend, everything he'd seen and done, as well as everything he used to believe.ย  It was a debilitating level of information he simply needed time to organize and understand before he accepted.

He'd needed time to grieve... a process the Clone Wars and even the life after had refused to let him endure.

The guilt Rex had felt for so long and the belief he was responsible for not being able to prevent the Empire was finally gone.ย  That burden had not been his to bear, and yet he did not place the blame upon his former General either.

Anakin Skywalker had been used and abused just as the Clones had once been.

The only man at fault was former Supreme Chancellor and Sith Lord, Sheev Palpatine.

Yes, Skywalker had done some inhumane and hienous offenses, but the power of the Sith Lord and the exhaustion of the Clone Wars upon the Jedi Council and even the Senate had been the real villain.

The Dark Side had swayed the delicate scale of balance and maintained that control for over twenty years, but in the end, the children of Vader himself had returned that balance to the Galaxy.

The prophacy of the Chosen One had in fact been true and came to fruition.ย  Anakin Skywalker had been the one to bring balance to the Force in the form of his son and daughter.

Rex was elated with pride and warmth for the first time in his short but eventful life.

"I forgive you, General..." he whispered into the low moan of the wind passing around him.

He slowly knelt to one knee beside the pyre and placed his hand upon the molten remains of the once fearsome helmet.

"Be at peace wherever you are... Don't worry about the Kids or Ahsoka either... They grew up just fine.ย  Old man like me can only follow and bear witness until I go blind or breathe my last." he offered with a bittersweet smile.

It faded after a moment or two.ย  His vision blurred and his chest ached.

"I wish I could've said goodbye... Seen you one more time... I owed you so much more for all those years of friendship we had... I hope you always knew and still know how much it meant to me to have you as my friend... my brother... To be respected as an equal and not a weapon of war or an expendable piece of equipment... To give my brothers and my men the same value and honor..."

His hand withdrew from the helmet, only for the back of his wrist to swipe the moisture from his eyes.ย  Rather than return it, his hand remained near his face to prepare for more that threatened to escape.

"I wish I could join you in the next life... but I think this is where we part..."

A choked, laughing sob interuppted him for a moment.

"-somebody's gotta look after the Boys while you're gone... Tell General Kenobi I'll miss him too... and that I'll look after Cody and his men for him... If General Plo's there... tell him Wolffe is on his way to Dorin to finally join the Pack again..."

Tears were streaming hot and heavy, but the aging soldier managed to pull himself somewhat back together.

He slowly stood and made himself as straight as possible, then saluted one last time.

"Maybe I'll see you in another time and place... If we do meet again, I hope we're still close friends or even actual brothers.ย  Farewell, General Anakin Skywalker... Captain Cee Tee Seventy-Five-Sixty-Seven 'Rex' signing off..."

"Remember, Cody, you are on strict orders to stay for as long as you'd like to, and no more. I will be the first to admit that I'm surprised you and the troops chose to come to the party rather than take off to enjoy whatever plans you all have in mind." Although General Kenobi was a touch under the influence, any level of inebriation was hardly enough to suppress his natural inclination to cater to the wants and needs of his beloved men, and that sentiment made Cody smile just a bit; his General could not hide the hint of joy that colored his features at having everyone under one roof, honoring the spirit of a season that Cody and his brothers have only recently become accustomed to celebrating. It made him more human, a side of him that Cody felt privileged knowing, his accolades that are blasted on the HoloNet paling in comparison to the genuine person Obi-Wan Kenobi truly was.

It seemed the holidays were melting Cody's firm exterior more than he would ever openly express.

"I would say that it was Senator Amidala's insistence, but none of the boys could resist ringing in the holidays with a party like this, sir," he replies in earnest, dark eyes briefly surveying the general area with a drink in hand, observing not only to ensure none of his brothers were out of line, but that they were having a good time, for that is all that mattered to him as they collectively learned how to celebrate a tradition that did not come natural to him.

Between Waxer and Boil enthusiastically telling a tale of valor on Geonosis, Fives and Echo filling their plates with a wide variety of food popular in various systems, and Kix casually sipping a drink while enjoying the music playing the background, it seemed as though Senator Amidala had been right all along; hosting both Skywalker and Kenobi's men along with her own acquaintances in the Senate and everyone in between went off without a hitch, and he made a mental note to thank her for her hospitality during a night he hopes his men will never forget. Although the attire was odd (he has learned this was pushed by General Skywalker, to the surprise of no one), it seemed to match the ambiance of the get-together, and things he never thought he needed to see where Senators Amidala and Organa (and whom he presumes to be Organa's wife) chatting comfortably in obnoxious, ugly sweaters. He masks the grin that touches his lip with a sip of his drink, but before he can continue conversing with his General, Obi-Wan briefly excuses himself to close the distance between himself General Skywalker whose infectious joy over the holidays was trickling throughout their men.

It's another scene he won't soon forget.

There is a small uproar that surrounded the holiday tree decorated in the middle of the party, but it has yet to adorn its top, yet Commander Tano and General Skywalker were up to the task. As is always the case with them, safety flew out the window when accomplishing a task was called into question, Skywalker putting on a show by floating his Padawan with ease by the Force, lifting her well within range to place the star on top of the tree. Yet, when she is close, he moves her abruptly, and this amuses the congregation of his brothers, circling them to cheer them on. He can see Senator Amidala flustered in the distance, and can feel General Kenobi's growing disdain for their antics, but instead of joining his commanding officer, he acts as a quiet spectator, one that has put aside his impatience for Skywalker's extreme methods to instead embrace a rare moment of pure joy among his brothers.

Sometimes he forgets how young General Skywalker truly is.

With attention drawn toward one focal point, Rex's long-awaited entrance to the party goes unnoticed for now, but never to Cody whose radar locks onto him the second he sees him. Pleased, he moves toward him with a thin smile, giving him a squeeze to his shoulder before directing his attention to the chaos at hand. Not that he needed to, of course. It's not as though General Skywalker was aiming for discretion.

"Glad you're here, Rex. I thought about trying to stop that, but... the boys are lapping up the show. At least, this time, it's not you they are floating in the air.โ€

Though initially surprised by his response, he is also deeply moved by it, and that impact is etched in features that instinctively brighten, his smile soft but sincere, as he revels in any opportunity to make his Captain's day. Unable to help himself, he extends both hands to rest on his shoulders, begging his full attention to express to his second-in-command the true depth of his heart.

"What are you talking about, Rex? You've already given me so much. Your friendship means more to me than you will ever know. Thank you for choosing me to have at your side. I'd be lost in this galaxy without you." He admits in earnest, a light pat given before he steps back, his smile intact.

"I'll never let you down, Rex. I promise."

Swiftly leans in, peering through the lens of his helmet as though his Captain's thoughts sprung through. Rex was not weak, so his attempt at reading his mind naturally failed, but that didn't mean he wouldn't proclaim otherwise in comical fashion. Lifting a gloved finger to the air, he playfully stands tall, as though he were about to make a critical announcement.

"Yes! No matter what it takes, they go down. Even if we use unconventional means to do so. We're the 501st. There is no battle plan we won't scoff at!"
