French by birth and American by blood, Andre moved to the United States for middle school and has lived in New York City ever since. High school, college, and the early days of adulthood may have dulled his accent, but they never damped his love of European culture. As someone who identifies more closely to his birth-country Andre is often torn between the life he has built in America and his foreign roots and travels abroad whenever he gets the chance and the money to do so. Preferred destinations include France and the Mediterranean coast.
Behind the Lens
Turning a passion for photography into a career turned out to be a greater struggle than Instagram influencers would have you believe. Beginning in college, Andre offered his skills with a camera for contract work wherever he could find it. It was a slow grind and more times than not his peers offered to barter rather than pay. As a free, single college student Andre seldom balked at the offers.
Once his collegiate safety net was gone, however, he was faced with the stark reality of life; New York is expensive. Since graduation Andre has taken up a full-time job with The New Yorker photographing gallery openings, exclusive galas, the subjects of exclusive features, and anything else where the magazine needs an extra hand. He still freelances as a photographer for hire, but has significantly less time to side gigs.
With what little time he has left for himself, Andre also married his love for photography with his love for travel through a dedicated Instagram account and personal blog documenting his adventures. Due to how infrequently both accounts get updates they are generally overlooked outside a couple hundred loyal followers. Not that Andre minds, the exercise is first and foremost a personal oneโฆ at least until recently when higher-ups at the New Yorker caught wind of his work.
