Prompt for Insufferable (Hermione)

How did it get to this point for George? He had closed himself up to literally everyone. He had left his parents place again and was back in the flat that he had shared with his brother. Days bleed into weeks and weeks bleed into months. George hadn’t been able to move on in the slightest like every one else. How was he supposed to? Why couldn’t he? He knew in his heart that Fred would want him to, but he couldn’t.

It was his birthday, his first birthday without his twin. And he was angry that he had to go on with this day without his brother. The redhead went to bed in a bad mood and woke up the next morning in the same bad mood. For a guy who likes to lighten the mood usually, he wasn’t able to pull himself out of this funk. Would anyone be able to? He highly doubted it.

When he woke, it was 5.30 am, he couldn’t sleep any more, not that his body let him since he had been agitated all night, knowing what could happen today of all days. He would be bombarded by his family with celebrations. George knew that they were only going to try and make him feel better, but he was so deep into his depression there was no use.

By 7 am, a few owls had arrived with letters. “Just go away” George said storming out of his room, shooing them away. He picked up the letters and threw him on the counter. Why couldn’t they just leave him alone on this day of all days? He didn’t want to be celebrated without his brother.

When he get into the kitchen, he was shaking and couldn’t focus, whatever he could get his hands on went flying, damn near destrying the kitchen. It got loud and he didn’t hear the door open. It was Hermione coming in to see if he was alright. The Weasley’s didn’t dare to come and see George right away so Hermione had offered to go see him. It was a good thing that it was no one else. The site before Hermione was a broken man. “Oh George” She said as she saw him slides down the kitchen wall, lending with a hard thud on his ass.

George looked up at Hermione, face streaked with tears. “Wh.. what are….” He couldn’t even finish as Hermione nearly flew over to him and wrapped her arms around him, not caring about the kitchen in this moment, it wasn’t important.

Feeling Hermione’s arms around him made him flinch but he leaned into her. “I...I can’t. I’m not sure” George couldn’t get a sentence out, having a horrible time trying to calm himself down. “It’s alright George” Hermione soothed. This was weird for George. He knew Hermione liked to help people, make them feel better, but not usually George since he had rarely been down like this. But since the war, he had been down.

“I… I can’t get out of my head…” HE shook his head, sobbing. He wanted to curl into himself, but Hermione made that impossible since she was still holding on to him. “What is going on in that head of yours?” Hermione asked, tryin to get him to open up.

George shook his head, finally getting himself free and bringing his knees to his chest, resting his face on his knees as he wrapped his arms around his legs “My… my mind is a in a dark place. You don’t want to be there” Was all George could say. He didn’t want other people knowing what his mind was like, it was a very dark place. He didn’t even want to be in his own head. “George” Hermione started.

“Don’t” George nearly shouted. “Don’t tell me I need people.” He glared at Hermione. “What I need is what I can’t get back” It hurt to say that aloud. He didn’t want to say it either. “You think you know what it’s like, but you don’t” He shook his head as Hermione tried to speak. “Today of all days you just had to come” He looked away

“Your mother is worried about you. So is the rest of your family.” She gently reached out, placing a hand on George’s shoulder “You need them just as much as they need you. Today isn’t about just you. It’s a way to celebrate you and the life of Fred” Hermione’s lip started to quiver “Your mind doesn’t have to be in a dark place if you can get some help”

“Get help?” George said as he jumped up, shaking furiously. Hermione realized what she said. “George. I… I didn’t mean”

He glared at her “Yes, yes you did! Now get out.” He took her by the arm and walked her to the door of the flat and gave her a push out, closing the door and locking it. He rested his head on the door, holding back a sob.   My mind is a dark place. went through George’s head It had gotten to the point that he wasn’t even sure what he could do.
