He believed her, his heart told him that she was telling the truth that she would do everything in her power to come back to him. Talk of Max was always able to lift any mood but his heart was racing his mind still reeling from the thought of losing her that he didnโt hesitate asking the question most would have thought crazy since they had only shared their first kiss hours before. Yet in his mind and he knew in Seleneโs to that they were made for each other, that since the moment they had met they were building to this. When she pulled back he had a fleeting moment of doubt before the smile and love in her eyes made him relax even letting out the breath he didnโt know he had been holding.
โYes?โ Mark let out a laugh pulling her down to meet his lips in a heated kiss โYou are the only one for me Selene, and im just sorry that it took me so long to realise that. Letโs not waste any more time, our forever starts today and when you come back I am going to make you Mrs Winters. Itโs the the proposal I would have have expected but I dont want this moment to pass without you knowing that I meant every word I said this morning. I love you, and I want everything with you darling though I will apologise now for how unbearable my mother will become planning a wedding so we should absolutely consider eloping at some pointโ
Armโs pulled her closer lips brushing up her jawline towards her ear โAlthough we do have more important things to dwell on right now. Did you say new underwear begging for me to remove it? The lawyer in him had his mind whirling trying to figure out a way to get around the recall. While Mark had always known it could be something that could happen in the years that he had known Selene he had never envisioned her being drafted back in to complete another tour. There surely had to be a way to get around it, he had gotten round every obstacle in his life and he wasnโt about to let the British Army rip her from his arms if he could help it. โYou were coming to tell me you were leaving me?โ There was an undertone of pain in his voice that even he had never heard before. It sounded so final, that they had come so close to never exploring the love that so clearly burned between them, in mere hours they had opened the floodgates in their hearts only for Selene to be jumping from one dangerous situation to one that was even more lethal.
He new the stats, he knew the work that she carried out it was why Selene was so damn good at her job, she was elite but that didnโt mean that she was impervious to a sniper bullet or explosion and those where the better options. He wouldnโt allow himself to think of the other options, ones where she wouldnโt come home at all and that thought terrified him, whether she knew it or not his world had revolved around her for longer than he cared to admit.
Shifting back in his chair his arms swiftly looped around her waist pulling her closer fearing that she was a dream that he was about to wake up from. โI have waited this long to get youย into my arms, I promise you baby I am not going to let you go, I am never going to give up on us Selene. Max and I will be right here waiting for you to come back to us, we will pine for you every night and we will make the most of every moment until you have to leave usโ It was easy to see that he wasnโt the only one that was fearing the uncertainty that would come with her recall.ย
To lighten the mood his blue eyes rolled at her statement. โSo you want to stay down here and hang out with max rather than me taking youย to bed, wow so quickly I have been surpassed by the fur ball. Thanks for that darlingโ Swiftly his lips found hers in a tender kiss โI never dared dream that we could have this, but itโs all I could ever want to have you here with me. He had been thinking the same thing, that they could utilise JAckโs expertise for more legal matters hoping that it would be enough to keep him out of trouble. For all they were close he still didnโt know if he was going to want to follow them out of the business and neither of them wanted to leave him behind, Jack was an easy target and one that could be easily taken down. โWe will see what he thinks, lets get our plan sorted then start broaching the others, in an ideal world we would close out the last transactions then shut up shop but some of them may not want to give up just yet. His hand reached for hers fingers entwining just needing to have the contact, the reassurance that this wasnโt some dream. โI dont want to move you from potential danger into the literal line of fire. If we are going to do this I want you here with me, by my side because I canโt do this with you Seleneโ Oh how the mighty had fallen the man that exuded such isolation realising that he was nothing without her now that he had had the glimpse of the future that within their reach. It was another conversation he wanted to table til the morning, this was their moment and everything else needed to wait โAgain lets table this discussion for tomorrow, tonight I just want to focus on us, the here and now. A frown pulled at his features as he listened to her โWell remind me that we are never eating from there again. Actually maybe we will go into the restaurant just so I can break his fingers. Mark reluctantly released her โGo have a seat Iโll get the food and the wine and then for the duration oof dinner there will be no talk of work or my meddling mother. I just want to enjoy our first night together so no arguing which will be totally unlike usโ Grinning he ushered her towards the table in the corner while he busied himself retrieving two wine glasses and the chilled bottle depositing them on the table before plating up.
โI hope it is to the lady of the homes liking but dont worry I will learn to help out if you will teach me babyโ
Mark rested his head against hers still unsure how they had managed to be here, to be planning a future when just a few hours ago Selene was the woman that was always going to be off limits to him. In those few hours he had finally glimpsed what he had been missing out on, all of the things that they could allow themselves to be and for the first time ever his house felt like a home, not just somewhere to lay his head. โNow we donโt have to miss each other my darlingโย
Her next words seem to make the blissful bubble that they were existing in burst, reminding him that they still had a long way to go before they were really free to have everything they craved. Mark gave a soft sigh nodding as she pulled back, every inch feeling like a mile. โYou are sure that no one spotted you right?โ Selene had always been his strongest ally the one he turned to but he doubted if she was fully aware that she was also his greatest weakness, the fear of losing all they were striving for meant nothing but to lose Selene? That would destroy him that much he knew.
โLets talk to Jack in the morning, see if we canโt arrange a few surprises to be added to the drives in preparation but as much as I want to jump we need to do this right to make sure we have no come backs. Itโs not just you me and Jack, if we want out untouched we need to get the core out, make sure that there is no one that can trace anything back to us. If that means buying their silence we do it, if it means making sure they stay silent then we do it. But I think you are on to something, we just need to work out the finer details and hope we can take everyone out of the game togetherโ The other option required bullets in the heads of people he had grown to call friends and it was a path he wasnโt ready to commit too. They hardly had clean hands but Mark wanted to avoid any more blood on them if he could.

Grinning he shook his head โLets just say I threatened Jack with calling you and getting his warcraft account shut down and that put him back in his box. No one else was feeling brave enough to try it but I think they are just biding their time, believe me that teasing is going to come soon enough. It did help that I headed out not long after you and had the wonderful pleasure of calling my mother to stop her meddlingโ Gently he grazed his teeth over her lower lip โWill that be you if we have a son? The over protective mother trying to steer her son into the arms of the one she thinks he is meant to be with? I mean she is right but letโs not tell her that any time soon, actually ever we should never tell her anything not even the date of our wedding.โ

I donโt want you thinking your marrying some domestic godโ He released her keeping one arm around her waist as he guided her towards the kitchen โI figured the formal dining room was a bit ostentatious for just the two of us and I would rather keep you as close as I can get.โ
As the headed into the kitchen he left his glass of wine on the counter โI opted for sweet talking the owner at Murano that Italian in Mayfair into providing take away. You would think I was asking for blood. So let me plate up and I can start trying to woo my girlfriend into loving me more than our dog. What do you say beautiful?โ
