Brooke Maddox was your typical spoiled rich "Daddy's" girl. She grew up in Lakewood, California, and despite her parents' wealth, she attended public school at George Washington High School. Brooke was the daughter of Quinn Maddox, who was the mayor of Lakewood. In 2015, she had an affair with a young high school teacher named Seth Branson. Brooke broke it off with Branson when she began learning things about his mysterious past, some of which implicated him in a string of recent murders. Though Branson was innocent of the murders, it drove a wedge between Brooke and he. Brooke then began dating a fellow student named Jake Fitzgerald.
Brooke takes action on unfinished business, Emma and Kieran struggle with trust issues, and Noah's investigations lands him and Audrey in peril.Noah may think that Audrey is the killer, but Brooke believes that her estranged ex-boyfriend and former teacher, Seth Branson is the person responsible for Jake’s death. She recruits Gustavo to sneak into his father’s office at the police station to look into Branson’s file. What Gustavo finds is pretty juicy.Brooke takes the info and decides to do her own investigating. She frantically places a call to Ms. Lang, asking her teacher to meet with her outside of school to talk about Jake. But when Ms. Lang arrives, Brooke turns the topic to Branson. She lies to her teacher, telling her that the reason she feels so distraught over Jake’s death is because she was with another man the night that Jake died — Branson. Ms. Lang keeps her composure around Brooke, but makes a call to her beau the moment she gets in her car. Branson doesn’t answer, however, that’s only because he’s on another call. Brooke puts on an act and tells her former lover that she’s “falling apart” and needs him. Branson falls for Brooke’s trap, promising to meet her at their old hookup spot.
As Brooke puts her plan into place, her dad,Mayor Maddox,is doing something else shady on the side. He runs into Kieran’s con-artist aunt Tina at a bar and brings her home. Tina thinks that she’s going to be locking lips with the wealthy mayor, but he has other plans for her. He reveals that an “off the books job” recently became available, and wants to know if she’s interested.

Initially, she is shown to be slightly snobby and shallow with a carefree attitude and blunt persona. Also, she had a complicated and secret sexual relationship with her teacher, Seth Branson. When her friends start to get picked off one by one by the Lakewood slasher, Brooke shows the most grief of her friends' deaths, revealing a more caring and sensitive side. Brooke is attacked on several occasions. In the first-season finale, she is attacked while locked inside a freezer, suffering minor stab wounds but managed to survive.
