It took him long enough to make a sexual remark, Ellyn just leaned back against her seat attempting to dismiss his flirtatious comment. “We’re here about business… we can play later” she rolled her eyes, his tough crowd comment only making her aggravation increase. Rosellyn was a woman of focus and determination, she wanted to get the bastards as much as he did because they were basically experimented on, but she learned a few skills and launched her career in the underworld – a secret she would forever keep. There was only one person in this universe who knew the truth about her career and that was her sister, Yara. It’s crazy how one person can know so much about you yet know nothing about your past.

“You have me as your lawyer, I have dirt on them… I lived that too, they will settle this and your career will be just fine.” She already had the strategy in motion, she had a mile long list of possible witnesses willing to come forward and make this an even bigger spectacle but deep down, she knew the underworld didn’t want to reveal the truth. That place was their biggest playground and training base for new assassins, skilled killers, and contractors for the government to complete their dirty deeds. Rosellyn was skilled when it came to understanding her targets, stalking them, learning their patterns and weaknesses to use them against them. This wasn’t a challenge as much as it was a hit for her, all the abuse they endured at the hands of the so called mental health facility made it personal and over her dead body she would allow any more children to be abused.

“You are right, this won’t be free… “I only have a few demands and I am afraid they’re not monetary” Ellyn stared directly into his eyes, contemplating whether or not she should come clean or wait for the result of the case. She had to make sure he was sticking around, their relationship had never been serious and truly, a child changes everything. “Stop calling me Mrs. because I am not married, you can call me Ellyn it’s not like you haven’t done that before… you know so much more than just my name” she gave him a subtle smirk on the corner of her lip. “Number two, from this moment forward you speak to no one about this, anyone asks? You say, no comment which I know will be a struggle for you because you’re a journalist.” Rosellyn closed the folder she had on her desk “number three, you have to tell me every single detail about your investigation and unfortunately that includes revealing your sources because we can never be too sure.” She continued.

“Number three, this is personal for me too and I have every intent of taking these assholes down but you have to trust me… I will drain every single drop of blood out of their bodies but you have to be patient, Cage” she relaxed her posture against her desk and rose to her feet. Rosellyn walked around the desk, standing next to him, leaning against the wooden desk “there is one last thing and the most important one…” she exhaled – convincing herself that she needed him to commit to the process and perhaps a child would be the perfect incentive. “I can’t not tell you this and expect you to blindly trust me…” she licked her lips, pushing herself off the desk to grab her bag and coat. “Grab your stuff, and follow me” she tossed the bowl of Thai food on the trash, stuffed his case file in the drawer before leading him outside the office.

The entire walk to her car was silent, knowing how he hated secrecy and sneakiness – she appreciated his compliance and willingness to go along with everything. Ellyn drove them both to her home, parked in the underground parking lot and led them from the basement to the penthouse. She unlocked the front door, pushing the heavy door open to step into her spacious penthouse and locking the door behind him after he stepped inside. “Mommy!!!” the squeaky voice of the two year old toddler screamed, Ellyn placed her belongings on the chair on the foyer and knelt to embrace her daughter. “Hi little munchkin!” she kissed her forehead, dismissing the nanny who was standing in the living room and turned to Cage whose face was puzzled. “Meet Allyson…” she approached him while holding the child in her arms “your daughter!” she stated with a smile. “You have to promise me you won’t let them win and turn you into a monster… we have her to protect” she looked into his eyes. Allyson happily reached out to him for him to carry her and called him ‘Dadda.’ Ellyn wouldn’t allow her child to grow up without knowing the face of the man who was responsible for her creation. “Yes, that’s dadda” she whispered happily.

Life has forced Rosellyn to turn into a new person at different stages of life, as a child, she wasn’t fully loved and was shipped away the second things got too contentious with her parents. The culture shock of being Israeli and moving to the United States was hard on the young Rosellyn Jedlowska and being in a mental hospital where she did not understand what was wrong with her made the experience worse. The situation quickly helped her become a chameleon, morphing into different shells to convince whoever sat across the desk that she was okay and being placed on their experimental program where people were being trained to strip their emotions and moral compass to complete “missions.” It was straight out of a horror movie what the children had to go through in that place, but in between the chaos she found someone who was able to see the real her. He was the one to give her the nickname Ellyn, and he was the only person who truly understood her. Granted more than half their time was spent connected to each other and exploring their bodies but somehow stripping herself in that way meant giving her true self away to him. Something that still to this day she was not able to do with any other man, and she has tried, this includes the man who she is currently engaged to. Derrick, he was not a bad guy but he bored her to death – perhaps because she had lived such an exciting life as a Mossad Agent that whatever he had to offer meant nothing.

Ellyn had made partner with the firm she was working at, being a lawyer helped her with many aspects of her life after retiring from being a hitwoman. A life she never thought she would leave behind because it aided her inability to form real relationships and stability, but the second she found out about her pregnancy, she had to give it up. But there was only one way she could get rid of life, still work for the table but in another way. She defended the worst criminals, tried her best to get them off the jailing sentencing, she handled lawsuits and helped launder the money. Further, she was also managing the hotel in town to provide a safe haven to those still working on the streets as hitpeople. This was an unusual lifestyle, but it was one she wouldn’t change for anything in the world. It allowed her to have time to be with her daughter, and it kept them both safe. Ellyn glanced at the picture of her perfect child that sat on her desk, a bright smile adorning her lips because that was the one thing, she was the proudest of. It did hurt her that her child would possibly never meet her father and she was trying to get the courage to explain that when the time came.

That is why when the name Christopher Palko came across her desk, she took the case in, what were the odds that the universe would conspire to have them meet again after nearly three years since their last encounter. Three years after she gave birth to their daughter Allyson – Ellyn had no idea how she would be sharing the news, but she knew it would have to come up at some point. She opened the file lying on her desk, her gaze dancing along the lines as she read and suddenly a knock interrupted her flow. “I got you lunch since I know my beautiful fiancé cannot take a break to safe her life” the tall brunette man spoke; she gave him a soft smile and rose from her seat to greet him. “I know, I got a last-minute case, and I am pretty sure we will win this without any problems!” she approached the man, her stilettos making a clicking sound on the wooden floor and kissing him softly as she grabbed the bag he held. “Thai, your favorite!” he replied after returning the kiss and she gave him a flirtatious wink “thank you!” she leaned in for another kiss before walking back to her seat. She unpacked the meal, had a few bites to please him for getting her food. “You are the best, but now, shoo, so I can get ready for this” he left without hesitation and she resumed her reading.

He did make it, he always said he wanted to be a journalist and expose everyone who was untruthful, and he did it but not without any consequences. Why would he go back to investigate the place they were locked in for so long? He knew better than to go against the management of that place who in her opinion were sadists. Ellyn finished her meal, throwing the plates away and cleaning off her desk, her thumb slowly playing with her engagement ring and turning it around as she finished off reading the file. The familiar beep came through the phone sitting on her desk “your next client is here” she exhaled deeply, unsure if she was ready for this but she still rose from her seat to greet Cage. There was so much she had to say that was unrelated to the case, but she wasn’t going to share it there, not in her place of employment. Ellyn cleared her desk and the surrounding areas that had pictures of her and Allyson to make sure he wouldn’t see them. That was a part of her life she didn’t know if she was ready to share even if he was the father. After placing the photographs away, she walked to the door and into the waiting area to greet him. “Mr. Palko, I am Rosellyn Jedlowska and you will be meeting with me… if you can follow me.” She looked at Cage straight into his eyes and smiled at her secretary “please, mark the rest of the afternoon busy, thanks” she led the way to her office and locked the door behind them. Lowering the blinds on the glass windows that provided view for the rest of the firm. “I have read the file and you’d be pleased to know that this is an easy win, and you’re lucky I chose the case… Now why would you go after them, Chris?” she asked with confusion showing on her features as she took a seat on the chair across from him. “You know they were crazy back in the day, so imagine now they are now” she sighed, reopening his file. “Now tell me what is it that you expect out of this case? And don’t worry, I will do this one for free” she reassured him.
