➤Artistic Gem: Derrick never got the chance to know his mother. She died giving birth to him and his father never spoke of her. He vaguely even remembered Ellie, Peyton's mother. His father was a musician always on the road and when he was home he was a mean drunk. He learns later down the road that he has a half sister named Peyton Sawyer. He helps her by getting rid of a stalker and teaching her how to fight to protect herself. From there a bond grew and the two are now inseperable.
➤Luke: Derrick hasn't known Lucas very long, but always knew his real feelings towards his sister Peyton. He helps Lucas figure out she was the one all along. He is glad to see he makes his sister so happy and hopes that he doesn't hurt here again. He considers Luke a close friend since he has no friends of his own in Tree Hill.
Born Derrick Logan Sawyer, surnamed after his father (Irish: Diarmaid O Leoghain sábhadóir ) lost his mother after his birth, she hemorraged and bled out. Being raised by his father was no picnic. His father was a young, inspired musician who often went on the road and left Derrick with random nannies til he was old enough to take care of himself. The few times his father was home he was a bad drunk meaning he beat Derrick. Derrick was made to be tough and to become an adult at a very young age. As soon as he was seventeen he manicipated the courts and finally was free of his old man. After high school he signed into the military and has been a navy brat every since. Well home from being deported he found out he had a half sister named Peyton.
She resided in Tree Hill, North Carolina. He went out to just check it out and discovered his little sister was being stalked by someone claiming to be him. He helps put a stop to it and later teaches Peyton self defense which she later uses against the pyscho Derrick when he returns for her. The two form an incredible bond and eventually Tree Hill also becomes his home.
He gets deployed and with having no one Peyton moves to New York, it wasn't till she was back in Tree Hill four years later her brother pays her a surprised visit. He then tells her he's done with the military life and is going be settling in Tree Hill with his sister. She was happy and the two live together till she gets with Lucas. When she moves out Derrick takes over what use to be Peyton's childhood home and the two stay in very close contact. Peyton offers her brother a job at Tric as a bouncer, knowing with his military training and how protective he was he'd be able to handle the crowds.
Derrick is currently single, he is a bit shy at first but once out of his shell he is the easiest person to get to know. You'll learn he is a very passionate person who puts family over everything. He is still debating on if he should retire from the military. He would love to settle down and one day have children of his own. Due to his alcoholic father and how he was raised he doesn't drink and on occassion will have a beer or two, also with being in the military he doesn't do drugs including Mary Jane.

➤Boxing: Derrick took up boxing when he was a little kid, his father teaching him everything. It was a way to toughen him up since his father often called him weak. He ended up sticking with it through high school and boxes at the gym often when hes on base or at a home gym when hes home.
