"You chose us, now we choose you" || AU version of Eric from the Divergent series || Mainly Dystopian/Apocalypse outside of Divergent verse || Rebellious character, friendly writer || Entity's Playground member
NOTE: This is my own version of the character, not the canon version. I have simply tweaked the original version written by Veronica Roth
Eric was born to the faction Erudite, known for being intelligent and cunning. Indeed, Eric displayed this kind of behavior, always doing well in school. However, he had a ruthlessness that could only be described as Dauntless behavior. When the time came for him to be tested for his preferred faction, his results came back Divergent. He was warned to keep this hidden, and the examiner wrote down his result as Erudite.
Eric was approached by leaders of Erudite, who were planning to undermine Dauntless so they could take control away from Abnegation. Jeanine Matthews in particular took an interest in him, and also told him that she was trying to hunt down Divergent people, who she believed to be hiding in Abnegation and Dauntless. He agreed to help them in the hopes to hide the fact that he himself was a Divergent, and also because he had been conditioned to do what Erudite leaders told him to do.
Eric transferred to Dauntless, were he often clashed with fellow transfer Four, who's real name was Tobias. Eric was at the top of the leader-boards, even beating Dauntless-born trainees. Towards the end of training he was bested by Four in a fight, and won second place, with Four taking first. The relationship between the two had already been strained, but this pushed it over the edge. Both were pursued for leadership positions. Four quickly turned it down, saying he'd prefer to train newcomers, but Eric was enthusiastic about his new role in leadership, believing he could help Erudite better. He quickly found out that the other leaders were in on this plan with Erudite as well, and they began elevating the difficulty of training. The goal was to weed out people who were unfit for roles in the faction, who previously were sent to measly positions, and potential worm out Divergents.
By the start of the book, Eric has already made it difficult, now making it possible to get kicked out for not meeting requirements and putting Dauntless-born and transfers on the same leaderboard, which had not been done before. Eric would watch over the training of both Dauntless-born and transfers, though he took more of an interest in the transfers. This was partially because Four was training them, as only transfers could train transfers (and vice-versa). He took a special interest in transfer Tris, the second person ever to transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless. He quickly caught on that something was not quite right about her.
Eric is often described as ruthless, once forcing a transfer to hold onto a bridge over a chasm for five minutes for speaking out of line. This was especially seen when he organized a game of Capture the Flag. Despite the fact that Tris had been kicked out for having too low of a score and an injury she suffered during a fight, she joined them, and Eric let her, wanting to see how far she could go before she let her secret slip. For the first time since they started playing, Four actually won (with the help of Tris).
As Erudite starts to implement their plan to take over control of the factions, Eric initiates the plan of his fellow leaders. All non-leaders have been implemented with a chip, the claim being that they were for tracking purposes. Once activated, however, they allow complete control over the person. The only people who can not be controlled are Divergents. This plan allows them to help Erudite take control and weed out the current population of Divergents hiding in Dauntless (though most of them were either Factionless or hiding in Abnegation). Tris and Four are captured after it is discovered that they are not under control. Against his better judgment, he agrees to help them, after showing them his Divergent status by giving himself a chip and letting them see that it doesn't work on him. He then promptly rips it out, unsure if it is actually trackable. He frees the two and helps them on their journey, and when Tris tells him to hide in a certain building, he reluctantly does so. They escape with a few others, not without the sacrifice of Tris' parents. This leads to the second book in the series.

Trust wasn't exactly an easy thing for Dylann. Let alone in this situation. Mainly because no one in their right mind would trust Eric! Would they?! Despite this, after the previous night she found herself questioning everything she T H O U G H T she knew. Was his whole persona an act? A debilitating annoyance began to flood her body as uncertainty reared its ugly head. Or was this act of being on her side, the real act? Regardless of his intentions, he still had a face she wanted to punch, Dylann reminded herself.
As she moved to a sparring match with another Dauntless born, she couldn't help but wonder -- was she mad at him for hiding behind a mask? Even though she had been doing the exact same thing for years... Or because he had found her out? Unfortunately with her distracted thoughts, she felt her opponents fist connect with her nose. Cartilage C R A C K E D, instantly bringing water to her eyes, and blood to her upper lip.
"What's up with you?" the dark eyed boy asked in disbelief. It wasn't like her to get bested so quickly in a match. With a scoff, she ran her hand across her face, to wipe the blood away. While to the left the room began to whisper. Dylann's head tilted slightly, to see the initiates tense up at the arrival of the new S P E C T A T O R.
"Long night" she answered, swiping her leg along the mat to kick his feet out from under him. Acting quickly to regain her own B A L A N C E.
"I'll bet" he replied with some sinister smirk. Suddenly her brain was firing in all different directions. Had this goon been one of the boys involved? Or was he meaning something else? Her quick temper took over next, as she straddled him and delivered a few quick jabs to his face and throat. Though her V I O L E N T outburst was cut short.
"Davis!"
Her head snapped up. She knew she was being called, despite her chosen name not being used. Anger would have been present on her face until she saw who actually was calling her. None other than Max. Sh*t -- she muttered. Whatever anger had been visible was no replaced by dutiful C O M P L I A N C E.
With a rough shove, she pushed up off of him, making her way over to the D A U N T L E S S Leader. The room felt unnecessarily quiet. As if everyone in the pit had paused to watch the exchange. Which most likely wasn't true, but Dylann sure felt like all eyes were on her.
"Yes?" she questioned. Completely off guard and C O N F U S E D. Max had never directly called her out before. Just what exactly was going on? She saw Eric out of the corner of her eye, and fought the urge to ball her fists. Had he told him something? It was the only thing that made sense?! But if he had really wanted to out her, he would have done it last night.....
"Come with us." Max instructed, he even smiled. More confusion as she followed them out of the pit and down the secluded pathway. Dylann had no way of knowing what was going on, but she was beginning to feel like a cornered animal. F E A R whimpered within, but she kept it in check. Knowing it would not serve her in this situation. It was time to play a part, a part she was really good at playing.
