I consider myself a pretty versatile writer so I always tack on that I'm open verse as well because I don't like to limit my creativity or anyone else's. It's always frustrating to meet someone cool only to realize your characters are too different which complicates things later on. Hence the open verse option. ย

The basics and the guidance from the Good Book was implemented to make what had been fragmented whole again. There were very strict rules that had to be obeyed. Consequences for disobedience could be quite severe and even deadly. To make Gilead cohesive, one had to fit the strict parameters of the new society built on the ancient teachings.ย

That women had become too stressed in vying for professions and trying to scale the corporate ladders. The feminist utopia sought by generations before had only confused the great design for women. Godโs plan had been lost and the world had suffered as a result.

Now, the hierarchy was as God intended. Men led and women were subservient. The role of the handmaids was a testament to the wisdom of the Almighty. Properly chosen and trained, they provided the ultimate blessing to the better members of society. Children needed the best to be able to rebuild what had been lost and to help Gilead flourish.
