Evanora does not know who her birth parents were. Records and what she could collect from the orphanage she was given to indicate that she was born to a single mother who was reportedly "young". She remained in the orphanage until the ripe age of eleven which was consequently the same time that she began to notice that she was different from the other children. Odd occurrences happened around her, especially whenever she was experiences heightened emotions. When a fire combusted out of thin air after a group of children were teasing her, the head mistress of the orphanage began separating young Evanora from the others, claiming that Evanora was a witch.
The young girl suffered through neglect and abuse not only from her caretakers, but also from the other children. Not long after this, a mysterious woman arrived at the orphanage. She looked at the crop of children before finally asking to see the young child that could start fires with her mind. Evanora was adopted -or rather, handed over- to this woman who quickly took the child under her wing. It was here that Evanora learned that witches were real and that the odd occurences that happened around her were not so strange at all. Through harsh training, she learned how to use and harness magic.
Evanora has lived several lives thanks to the help of magic but unfortunately, she cannot shake the emptiness she feels. She had never known what a family was; her closest experience was that of her teacher but that was cold and was of mutual gain. She serves the courts of great kings in hopes that her experience will make her stronger and give her more meaning.

Salem Zuriel Westfall : When Salem met Evanora, she was getting raped by Egyptian men. With the morals that he possessed, he intervened without thinking about it, his bloodlust on full drive as he killed the men and sucked them dry. It was obvious to him that he had met a very powerful woman. When he found out that she was really a witch, it was his first run in with one, and he was thankful that it was positive. Eva didnโt have any qualms with the fact he was a slave to the night, and instead she was curious about him. She studied his blood, using it to practice spells and the like. Since Salem had nowhere to go, he stayed around her, learning different elements of magic and falling prey to the power that she had. In thanks for saving her life, she created for him a daylight ring so that he would no longer be bound to stay in the sun. Salem became intertwined in the woman and her black magic, but itโs nothing that he regrets. Eva is a close friend and confidant who now works for Salem and his coven of vampires.
Fintan O'Madรกin : The first time she meets Finn is through his son. While 'charging' up at the Tower, Finn's son was drawn to Evanora's magic and investigated. He ran off as she sensed him, but she caught up and introduced herself. Shortly after that, she met Finn and his wife. Evanora welcomes them to London and offers them hospitality. A few days later, Evanora was passing through the woods when she heard a woman's bloodcurdling scream. She couldn't shake the bone-chilling feeling that the scream belonged to Finn's wife; she couldn't help but to break out into a sprint towards the sound to investigate. As she arrived, she came across Fintan who was crumpled over the lifeless bodies of his wife and child. Evanora always had a soft spot for children and seeing the lifeless small body triggered her to react. Without thinking, the witch hurried to the child and did her best to heal the child but it was too late. She turned her attention to the wife who was also too far gone before finally working to aid Fintan. He was distraught and hurt so she eased his wounds to the best of her abilities before eventually coaxing him back to a nearby cabin to rest. From there, the two became close allies.

While witches, in general, are numerous throughout the world and thrive in various cultures, they're often referred to by other names. Though these cultures are not elaborated upon, they include "Strega" of Italy; "Aje" of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa; "Hรคxa" of Sweden, as well as Latvian (of Latvia), Santerรญa (of Morocco), and Obi (or Obeah of Nigeria) witches.
Witches with special abilities or gifts can further distinguish them; those being siphoners, Travelers, Seers, pyromancers, and muses. Siphoners, or siphon witches, are few in number and born without the ability to generate their own magic but they possess a rare power that allows them to siphon magic from external sources through touch. Traveler witches were cursed a millennia ago and forced to become nomadic or face destruction while developing their own brand of magic. Seers are witches specializing in the practice of divination, typically without the aid of spells. Pyromancers, of unknown origins but found mostly in East Asia, are another unique and rare type of fire-breathing witch; however, only a couple dozen are said to remain. Muses are another unique witch with the special power of inspiration and born under extremely rare circumstances; i.e. the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter.
