details | Gianna Martin had been lots of places in her twenty-five years on Earth. The longest she'd stayed anywhere was for a solid year while her mother had been in and out of a hospital for ovarian cancer treatments when Gianna had been around 14 years old. Her mother had beat the cancer, but that made Gi have to move from her aunt's house that had become like home and head off to the next place that her mom decided to go. Little had she known during those early years, that they weren't just moving for the fun of it. They were moving each time to stay just out of her father's grasp.
Javier 'Jack' Reyes always found them. Sometimes it was weeks, sometimes months, but he always found them and then they ran again. Her father had been good when he first met her mother, but Jack had fallen off the deep end. He'd gotten heavily into the drug rings in Miami, Florida and from there, dragged into the gangs and mafias by the people he'd met. But his obsession with Sylvia Martin never ended. He wanted her to be his wife, to drag her into the mess with him. She always refused, because she wanted more for Gianna. Her refusal just drove Jack all the more wild to have her, hence the constant running. But he couldn't be bothered with Gianna. He'd never even offered to see her since he'd ran off to become the next mafia leader. It all made Gianna so sick.
Despite her childhood being totally exhausting with the constant movement, Gianna had done okay for herself. She eventually told her mom that she couldn't run anymore. So, she went back to the place that had been most like home, near her aunt in Los Angeles. And LA was big enough, that if she ever needed to run, she could hide with friends or hotels. She'd make do, but she hadn't had to do that yet. Her job helped with that.
For many years, Gi had worked as a waitress and bartender so that she could stay grounded if her mother ever needed anything. By the time she realized that her mother could take care of herself and didn't really need Gianna, she decided to take to the skies and get herself a job that would keep her moving and growing. She became a flight attendant so that she could still travel the world but then go home to LA and sleep in her own bed. It was great, really. Now she had the best of both worlds, traveling around, and having a home. The only thing that was missing, was a real love life.
Gianna Rhea had always been beautiful, men and women alike never hesitated to flirt with her and let her know how beautiful she was. But she didn't trust anyone. She didn't trust her mother, her father, or herself. And because she'd decided to get her ovaries removed after her mother's fight with cancer and her mother's doctors recommendation for her, she wouldn't be able to bear any man's children. That often turned them off, made them decide she wasn't worth the fight if she couldn't birth their children later. So people left. Nobody stayed. She just needed a little bit of hope that eventually, someone would discover that she was GOLD. Rare and beautiful.
