Eliana Matthews wasn’t born. She was created. Serving as a coping mechanism for Octavia Elise Kingston, the four year old child was able to better endure the molestation from her father’s right hand man, and someone she considered an uncle. At first, Eliana was nothing more than what her parents deemed an imaginary friend, believing their daughter to be doing what normal children did – playing pretend. It wasn’t until she outgrew the imaginary friend stage that James and Celeste Kingston realized that something was very wrong with their daughter. Taking her to see a therapist in order to ease their own worries, Octavia was diagnosed with something known as dissociative identity disorder. In short, Octavia had a split personality.

Entering puberty, things for Octavia were strange. Trying to figure out who she was as a person, Octavia struggled, always finding herself teetering back and forth between what was real and what was imagined. For her, she believed Eliana to be an extension of herself, a part of her personality and being as a whole. But her parents and therapist constantly reminded her that she was nothing more than a coping mechanism, though they had no idea why that was. It wouldn't be until Octavia was in her late twenties that she learned about being molested by someone close to her.

Eliana whispered to Octavia every now and then, mostly during high times of stress or deep depressions. Times where she questioned herself and her future. She was unable to cut that part of her off completely. After all, how could one do such a thing? For ten years Eliana took the reins, endured the trauma that Octavia faced on a regular basis. She was Octavia’s saving grace, her protector, and when things started to go wrong, it was her that she turned to. That was exactly what she did after the death of her father. With the death of James and Daniel Kingston, William Maxwell and the loss of her unborn child, Octavia found herself falling back into the rabbit hole known as Eliana, and Eliana happily took control. The only thing that helped bring Octavia back to the surface was knowing that she had more to live for, more to experience. One such thing being her mother Celeste, her sister in law Avery, her nephew Maverick, and her grandmother Juliet. They were a life preserver, one that had been tied to Octavia and helped pull her back.

When Eliana is present, she is a destructive force. She doesn't care about the consequences of her actions, though she tries her best to keep Octavia out of harms way. After all, her sole purpose is to protect her creator, the one person she loves more than anything. Though that love only leashes her to an extent. In her times of fronting, Eliana has slept with numerous men, leaving Octavia to wake up to them the next morning; left Octavia hungover in random places with no money or way home; and most recently starred in an adult video with another woman, becoming a bit obsessed with said person. She might be what Octavia needs in order to cope, but she's not a healthy asset to the female. And Octavia knows this, which is why she is constantly in therapy to help her find new ways to handle every day life stressors.
