Star Wars: Tatooine Blues

(Inspired by the EU. Written by Raymond Ek)

It was a time of fear and oppression. The Emperor was tightening his grip on countless worlds, and Darth Vader was hunting down the few remaining Jedi Knights in hiding. The rebellion against the tyranny was growing, cell by cell, as more and more citizens spread their dissatisfaction across the galaxy.
With his army of clone troopers beginning to age beyond their prime, the Emperor chartered the creation of the Imperial Naval Academy. Recruitment centres started to pop up on many of the predominantly human populated worlds throughout the Empire.
Far from the Core systems, on a burning desert world called Tatooine, a young boy named Luke Skywalker grew up under the watchful eyes of his uncle and aunt. Kept sheltered from the knowledge of his true parentage, Luke toiled endlessly on the family's moisture farm.
As the boy worked, he was unaware that wise and ageing eyes were keeping his activities closely monitored.
Those eyes belonged to a hermit named Ben, who lived out on the edge of the Dune Sea, far from civilization and unwanted attention. Ben's true name was Obi Wan Kenobi, and he was one of the last Jedi Knights left in the galaxy, though on all Tatooine, only Luke's Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen were aware of his true identity.
From his secluded home, Ben bided his time, keeping a secretive watch over young Luke. His only companion, apart from the creatures of the desert, was the spirit of his old master, Qui Gon Jinn. During times of deep meditation, Ben would commune with his master, seeking advice and extra training.
Qui Gon still remained firmly convinced that Anakin Skywalker, was the one the ancient prophecy spoke of, and would bring balance back to the Force. Ever since Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, however, Ben was even more sceptical than ever, but stayed true to his promise to watch over young Luke, hopefull that he would succeed with the son where he had failed with the father.

One day, as the planet's twin suns beat down across the desert surface, Luke was given a rare time off from the nearly endless hours of maintaining the farm's many moisture vaporators. Owen and Beru were taking the family's landspeeder into Anchorhead, to purchase supplies and repair parts for the upcoming season. Luke was told that he could spend the day with his best friend, Biggs Darklighter, from the next moisture farm a few miles away. Luke was elated by the idea, because he and Biggs had planned to go hunting womp rats, the next time they had a chance.
Catching a ride with his uncle and aunt, Luke was dropped off at the edge of the Darklighter farm, and with a wave goodbye, he turned and started walking towards the homestead. As he got closer, Luke lifted a hand to shade his eyes from the bright sunlight, and squinted toward an approaching plume of dust. The growing cloud soon came into focus, and Luke recognized Biggs waving at him from the passenger seat of an old and beat up speeder, held together by a collection of mismatched parts.
The speeder came to a halt and Biggs jumped out, along with another boy. The new boy had a bulky frame and a head of sandy brown hair, a clear difference from Luke's blonde locks and Biggs' black hair. Biggs grinned as he walked over to Luke, punching him playfully in the arm. "Hey, nerf herder, I see your uncle finally let you have a day off!"
Luke laughed as he rubbed his bicep, and nodded. "Glad to see your eyes still work, dewback breath. Yeah, Uncle Owen doesn't yet trust me enough to change the dew collectors, without his supervision, so here I am." Luke then turned to the other boy, and held out a hand to him, smiling. "Hi there. I'm Luke Skywalker. Who are you?"
Biggs laughed as the other boy blushed shyly and shook Luke's hand. "I'm sorry, Luke. Where are my manners? Luke, this is Janek Sunber."
Janek shrugged his muscular shoulders. "Just call me Tank. It's nice to meet you, Luke."
Luke looked him up and down, taking in his large build, and smirked. "Tank, huh? I can see how you earned that nickname."
Biggs grinned and nodded. "Tank's family just bought the farm on the other side of us, last month. I met him over at Tosche Station, and we became friends. But that's not the best news.", he said with a wink, and waved a hand toward the speeder. "His father's been helping him build his own speeder!"
Tank smiled proudly, and nodded. "Yeah, just before we moved here from Mos Espa, Dad picked it up for a song from some old toydarian trader who was going out of business. Half the panels were missing and the engine was shot, but we managed to trade with some jawas for replacements. She may not look pretty, but she runs just fine now."
"Tank and I were just about to go take it for a spin.", Biggs said. "Come on, Luke. Maybe we can talk him into giving us each a turn at the controls."
Turning to see Tank shrug and nod, Luke's face broke into a wide grin. "Really? That would be awesome! Uncle Owen won't even let me sit in the front seat of our speeder. Where shall we go?"
Biggs smiled as the three boys walked back to the speeder, and climbed into it. "Well, Tank and I thought we'd head over toward the Jundland Wastes. Maybe see if we can nail a few womp rats, while we're there."
Tank nodded as he hopped in the front seat, then slid over to the passenger side, gesturing for Luke to take the controls. "Yep. That's the plan. Here Luke, you can take us out there. Biggs already had a turn before you arrived."
"Thanks Tank. I promise I'll be carefull, and won't go too fast." Luke grinned as he sat behind the controls, and started to familiarize himself with them.
Tank laughed and waved a hand toward the horizon. "Don't worry about that, Luke. Feel free to open her up. Let's really see what she's capable of."
Biggs reached over from his place in the back seat and ruffled Luke's hair, laughing. "Punch it, Luke!"
"All right, then. Here we go!" Smiling with delight, Luke gunned the throttle, feeling the repulsers hum as they gave the speeder some extra lift, then turned the small craft away from the farm, and headed out towards the open desert. Once past the outer ring of the Darklighter's moisture vaporators, he cranked the throttle to full power, and the speeder took off at a frightening pace. The boys all whooped with delight and excitement, as several small desert critters frantically scattered before them.

Back at Ben's humble abode, the Jedi in hiding was just coming out of one of his meditation trances, when he felt a slight tremor in the Force. Frowning with concentration, he focused on the source, and lifted an eyebrow in recognition and amusement. "So, Luke's heading this way, is he? Well, perhaps it's finally time to introduce myself.", he chuckled to himself as he stood up and reached for his dusty old robe. Slipping into it, Ben then turned his head to look toward an old chest by the far wall, first frowning in contemplation, then shaking his head. "No, not yet. It's far too soon to give him that. I think I'd better bring mine along, though. Just in case."
Ben turned away from the chest, and walked over to the doorway of his presscrete hut, reaching over to a shelf, lifting down his old lightsaber and attaching it to his belt, then covering it with a flap of his robe. He then left the hut, squinting slightly in the bright light, and started walking through the canyon trails, headed to where he felt Luke's presence.

After a wild and enjoyable ride, they boys arrived at the edge of the Jundland Wastes, stopping just short of the many canyon entrances.
As they hopped out and began gathering piles of fist-sized stones, Tank grinned over at Luke. "Wow! I never knew my speeder could go that fast, let alone turn tight corners like you were doing. You sure know how to handle those controls, Luke!"
Biggs nodded in agreement as he added rocks to his own growing pile. "Tank's right, Luke. You have the skills of a natural. Just imagine what you could do in a star fighter!"
Luke laughed and shook his head. "There's nothing to it, guys. All it takes is a little practice at the controls, which I got on the first half of the ride out here. Whatever you do, though, just don't let my aunt and uncle find out. Aunt Beru would have a bantha, and Uncle Owen would never let me leave the farm again."
All three boys laughed at Luke's colorfull description, and then set to what they'd come for. Each grabbing an armload of their rocks, they walked toward the canyons, seeking lizards and womp rats to bullseye.
As they took turns at hunting their prey, the three boys chatted about many things. From tales of the local crimelord, Jabba the Hutt, to the newest models of ships and speeders coming off the production lines these days. Eventually, their conversation turned towards the Empire's doings. All three boys were excited about the new Naval academy, and each talked about his desire to head for the new recruitment station in Mos Eisley, as soon as they came of age. All three were delighted to find that they all had dreams of being pilots, and had high hopes of one day being behind the controls of some grand Imperial starship, flying off throughout the galaxy to see new and exotic worlds.

After an hour or so, their hunting had led them a short ways into one of the narrower canyons. The boys began having fun, playing with the echoes of their shouts bouncing off the canyon walls. Suddenly, Luke heard a different sound, coming from further into the canyon, and motioned his friends for quiet. As their echoes died down, they could soon all make out a distressed honking, and being curious lads, they were eager to investigate.
After following the canyon around a couple of tight corners, they finally spotted the source of the distress. A young bantha calf, searching for some of the sparse plantlife, had gotten it's horns wedged into a narrow crevice in the canyon wall.
"Oh, that poor thing. Come on, guys. Let's try to help it out of there before the noon heat kills it." Luke gestured his friends to follow as he slowly approached the bantha. Studying the situation, he noticed that the crevice opened up into a small cave. Turning back to Biggs and Tank, he explained his plan. "I'm going to try to crawl inside there, and see if I can calm the calf and get the horns loose. When I do, you'll need to help it pull itself out."
"Sounds good, Luke.", Biggs nodded. "Just be carefull, okay? If you get hurt, your uncle will never let you hang out with me again."
Tank nodded in agreement. "And I only just met you. I don't want to lose a new friend so quickly."
Luke just smiled and waved off their concerns. "I'll be fine, guys. Just be ready to pull when I give the word."
With the plan set, Luke clambered up the canyon wall, and wedged his way into the cave, over the bantha's head, dropping back down once he was inside. Turning around, he spoke in a soft voice, trying to sooth the calf as he began to work at getting it's horns free.

From his hidden perch above the trio, on the upper lip of the canyon, Ben smiled as he watched them performing their good deed. He could feel the young calf's fear and distress, and used his control of the Force to help keep the creature calm enough for Luke and his friends to free it.
With Ben's unknown assist, it took only a couple minutes for Luke to help the bantha get it's head turned enough to slip out of the crevice. "Okay guys, try pulling now!", he called over the calf's head, and carefully began to push the head out.
With Biggs and Tank on either side of it, they gently but firmly began pulling at the calf's shoulders, and soon had it free. Once free of it's confinement, the bantha quickly turned around and ran out of the canyon, back to wherever it's herd had gotten to.
Luke squeezed himself out of the small cave, and watched the calf run off, as he dusted off his clothes. "Well, that's gratitude for you. He didn't even stick around to say thank you."
"He is grateful.", Ben called down to them, making the boys jump and look up. "He just lacks the vocal chords to convey it." He then quickly climbed down the canyon wall to smile at them. "But since he can't say it, I shall. Thank you very much for helping him. That was very selfless of you boys. You should all be proud of yourselves."
As Ben reached out to shake each boy's hand, Luke looked up at him. "Who are you, Mister, and how did you sneak up on us like that?"
Ben chuckled at Luke's suspicion, and pulled his hood back, revealing his friendly face. "My name is Ben Kenobi, and I live not far from here. But you can just call me Ben, or Old Ben if you prefer. As to how I snuck up on you, that's quite easy to do in these narrow canyons. In fact,", he gave them each a stern frown, "it's dangerous around here. With the way sounds bounce around, anything could sneak up on you, and you wouldn't know about it untill it's right on top of you. With that in mind, perhaps it would be best if you headed back out now. These wastes are not meant to be travelled lightly, unless you're more familiar with what they hold."
Despite his initial suspicion, Luke had a strange gut-feeling that this man could be trusted, and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I didn't realize before, just how far into the canyons we'd come. But after hearing that calf's distress, it wouldn't have felt right to just turn back and ignore it."
As the four turned and walked back to the speeder, Ben smiled and nodded to young Luke. "As I said, a most selfless act. But in the future, I trust you will stop and think first, before trying something so foolish. I would hate to try and explain to your uncle and aunt that I found your body."
Luke's eyebrows shoot up his brow in surprise at that statement. "You know my family?"
Ben nods, but frowns. "I do, though not all that well. I don't think your uncle likes me very much."
Luke frowns in thought, as he takes in this information. "Then I guess I shouldn't tell him that I met you. I don't understand why Uncle Owen wouldn't like you, though."
Ben shrugs and attempts to brush off the topic, not wanting to reveal too much too soon. "I'm sure he has his reasons. But by all means, don't lie about meeting me, should the question come up. Whatever reasons he may have, they will multiply if he thinks that I've asked you to keep secrets from him."
Luke nods. "All right. If you think that's best."

Soon, they arrived back at the speeder. Tank quickly ran over to check it out, then grinned. "Looks like everything's how I left it. After what Ben was saying, I was starting to worry that jawas or sandpeople might have found and tampered with it."
Biggs smiled and nodded. "So was I. It's an awfully long walk back home from here. Come on, guys. Let's load up our womp rats. We can trade them at Tosche Station for power converters, to the old Twileck cook who works there. She says that they're a delicacy when she barbecues them."
Ben helped the boys load their kills, then stepped back as the three climbed into the speeder. "In that case, I shall take my leave of you now. Please do remember what I said, though. You're all nice boys, and I'd feel terrible if anything were to happen to you."
Luke smiled and reached out to shake the old man's hand once more. "We will, and thank you for your help. It was nice to meet you, Ben. I hope I get to see you again sometime. Goodbye!"
Ben waved to the boys as they start up the speeder and were soon swiftly skimming across the desert. "Oh, you will, young Luke, but hopefully not too soon."
He watched untill the dust cloud from the speeder had dwindled into nothing on the horizon, then turned and started to make his way back to his own hut. As he made his way back through the canyon trails, he could almost hear his old master's voice.
"Train him. He will bring balance."
Ben frowned and continued on. "I hope you're right, Qui Gon. I sincerely hope you're right."

Rules of play
Current mood:  productive

Role play rules and points of importance. (Please read and sign if you can agree to follow them);

1: I am a 48 year old male in real life, with a full time job, so I cannot be online to respond to posts all the time.

2: I have been doing text based role play for nearly 25 years. I began role playing in msn, back when they still had message groups and chat rooms. When msn dumped them, I moved over to MySpace, and spent about 5 years or so in there, creating and establishing the characters I still use today (Liam and Prian Tallworth). Much of my character's histories are pieced together from the adventure they had and the friends they've interacted with over there. When MySpace changed their format around, I lost my profiles, but have re-created them here, to the best of my memory.

3: I have seen kingdoms rise and fall, families and clans created and destroyed, alliances formed and dissolved, and romances bloomed and crumbled.

4: I play in many realms and worlds, mostly taken from movies, shows, and novels that I like, so both of my characters are quite versatile and adaptable.

5: I am a full paragraph and multi paragraph player, so please do not send me one liners. They give me less than nothing to work with. If you do, you will receive only one warning. If you continue, you will be removed, because you're not worth my time.

6: Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar is a must. If I have to spend time trying to translate your posts, then you're not worth the effort. A mistake here and there can be forgiven, but not an entire post full of them.

7: Absolutely NO god moding! My character's actions are mine to dictate, and mine alone. If you try to state what my characters are doing, you will be dropped from my friends list immediately. (The only exceptions to this rule will be if I agree to possesion, Imperious Curse, or something similar)

8: I expect to be treated with respect, which I am more than willing to return in kind. The same goes for those I role play with. If you have a problem with any of us, then you have a problem with all of us.

9: I role play in comments, private messages, and blogs, so the choice is yours as to which medium you prefer. Please keep any ooc discussion in private message, though.

10: Both of my characters are primarily adventure characters, not romantic. We have a select few that we will rp a romance with, and do not seek more. (Liam and Prian are not a "booty-call").

11: if you use the non-word "Bae" even once, you will be removed. I think that term is beyond stupid, and has no place in the english language.

12: I sometimes get quite busy in my real life, and as such, may take a couple days or so to respond. If you don't have the patience for that, then it's your own loss.

These rules may be subject to change. I thank you for your understanding.

Tallworth and Murdock: A Vampire Hunt in Hell's Kitchen
Current mood:  creative

It had been a slow month for Liam. Things were doing well, both at home and with his work. He'd even found a little time to work on some of his memoirs, which he'd eventually planned to have published. As he sat out on his patio, sipping a screwdriver and thinking about his next chapter, he hear an owl call. Looking up, he was just in time to reach up and catch a message dropped from one of the Ministry's special dispatch owls. As the owl flew on, Liam opened and scanned the message with great interest, curious as to why the Ministry would send him anything.

Scanning the message, his eyebrows rise in surprise. For once, the Vampires International Defense Association ( or VIDA ) was working in cooperation with the Ministry. A rogue vampire had been located, hiding out in New York, in a run down section locally known as Hell's Kitchen, and Liam was recommended by VIDA as the right man to hunt it down and bring the foul rogue to justice, once and for all. The message included a brief description of the rogue, rough directions to Hell's Kitchen, and a short list of safe houses where Liam could find 'food' and shelter. It also included the name of a lawyer in the neighbourhood, who was well known there, and had had past dealings with the super-natural. The Ministry recommended that Liam contact him, and see if he might be of any assistance in tracking down the rogue.
Deciding to accept the job, Liam finished off his drink, then went inside to make preparations for the trip to the States. His first order of business was to call his house elf, Creeper, and get him to pack some clothes and fundamentals. Liam then went to his study, and scratched out a few brief messages to his son and a few friends, informing him of where he was headed. Once the notes were done, he passed them to his own messenger owl, Snowfeather, and sent him off to be delivered.
Liam then grabbed a quick shower, and changed into some fresh travelling clothes. Leaving his elf with a few final instructions, Liam picked up his bags, and apparated to Minstry headquarters. There, he was met by a couple Ministry officials, and one of his bosses from VIDA. They provided him with the proper fake passports and ID, to get by any usualll muggle screenings. They then hooked him up with a Ministry worker who specialized in international transportation. Wishing him luck, they then stepped back, and Liam was instantly transported to New York. Arriving in one of the North American Magical Ministry main offices, located deep beneath Grand Central Station, Liam was met by one of their own reps, who gave him the address to Matt Murdock's practice office, and led him to the surface, where he could catch a cab.
Hailing a cab, Liam climbed into the smelly back seat, and gave the driver the address. After muttering a short comment about taking his life into his hands in that part of town, the driver put the cab in gear, pulled out into traffic, and headed across town. Liam sat back and wondered if this lawyer would be of any help at all to him, in finding and finishing off a vampire.

Liam's Origin Story

Liam's Origin Story

Liam was born to Prian and Sarah Tallworth, two full blood wizards living near. London. His parents died when he was still a baby, killed in a crossfire between Aurors and Death Eaters, back during Lord Voldemort's first rise to power. Separated from his parents, Liam was unable to be properly identified, and wound up being adopted by another couple, who moved with him to Western Canada. There, he was raised as one of their own children, growing up with a step-brother and step-sister. When he was 9, Liam began to show his magical aptitude, so his adoptive parents began making arrangements to have him enrolled at the Salem Witchcraft Academy, America's top magic school. An opportunity arrived, however, in the form of a letter sent from his step-dad's friend back in England, one Arthur Weasley.  It turned out that there was a rare opening at Hogwart's School for Witchcraft & Wizardry, his parent's old Alma Matter, and Arthur was willing to sponsor Liam if he chose to attend. Being ever-curious about the mystery of his real parents, Liam accepted the offer, hoping that it would give him a chance to start digging into his past.
When he turned 11, Liam said goodbye to his step-family, and headed to England. He stayed with the Weasley's untill the school term began, quickly making friends with the two older Weasley boys, Bill and Charlie. They all went to. Diagonal Alley for their school supplies, and Liam purchased himself a beautiful young Snowy Owl, that he named. Flakes.
When school started, Liam soon became far too distracted in learning magic, to even think of his family mystery. He ended up in Gryffendor House, along with his friends the Weasley's, and also discovered that he had exceptional skills as a Quiddich Beater. That skill landed him his first job once he'd graduated, playing for the Puddleby United Quiddich team. He also took up jogging, something that his step-parents had been into, and something that many of his English friends thought unusual since he was so skilled on a broomstick. A couple years after school, he met some new friends who all lived together in a large and well-kept castle, not far from  Hogwart's, Hogsmead, and the Dark Forest, and was invited to take rooms there. Liam not only accepted graciously, but he also used his interest in different forms of magic to help explore, map, and guard the castle and it's grounds. He took to jogging through the Dark Forest at least twice a week, and it was only a year or so after moving in, that he was one day attacked while jogging by a particularly large and wild werewolf, becoming infected in the process.
At first, he tried to keep the wolf inside him at bay by taking potions that suppressed the influence of the full moons, but eventually learned to master his new form and abilities.
Unfortunately though, once the International. Quiddich Society learned of his affliction, they put pressure on Puddleby United to dismiss him from the team. Liam was so upset and enraged by the IQS and through them the Ministry of Magic's predjudism against. Non and semi-humans, that he became a lobbyist against it, taking a new position with a semi and non human rights group called VIDA, or the Vampires International Defense League. During his time there, Liam spent a lot of time going through Ministry records, and it was there that he finally solved the mystery of his past. In an old news article, he found a story of a battle between Aurors and Death Eaters where a lot of innocents had been killed. Since many of those innocents had been goblins and house elves, the Ministry had brushed the investigation aside. But among the humans who were killed, were a young wizarding couple, found lying next to an empty stroller with no infant to be found nearby. Liam frantically backtracked the story through several different newspapers, and eventually found a photo of the couple and their new son. Liam couldn't believe his eyes, for the husband in the photo bore an eerily striking likeness to himself. After enlisting some legal aid, along with a bit of inside help from a couple of his friends at the castle who worked within the Ministry, Liam was able to prove that he was in fact the missing heir to the Tallworth estate.
Finally, Liam had solved the mystery, and had also gained an ancestral home he'd never known in the form of a large mansion and grounds just outside of Hogsmead, including a crotchety old house elf name Creeper.
Liam lived comfortably for a while after that, getting used to living in the mansion while still frequently visiting his friends over at the castle. He even started taking on some freelance work, tracking and hunting rogue and feral werewolves that were too wild to function in normal society. Around that time, Liam met and fell in love with a young woman named Thunto Crouch, daughter of Theresa and Barty Crouch Jr.. It wasn't untill after Thunto had become pregnant, that Liam learned that the Crouches were more than they appeared. Barty was actually an alien time traveller called The Doctor. Thunto had a little of both her parent's abilities, as well as the power to change into a wolf. It was in that form that Liam's son was born. Liam named the boy Prian, after his departed father, while. Thunto named his wolf aspect Gaothan, meaning the winds in Gaelic. Prian, being born as a wolf cub, was a handful to look after. Even more so, when the boy had an unusual growth spurt a few months after his birth. Virtually overnight, Prian grew from a baby to a young boy, appearing about 8-10 years old. Another few months after that, Prian experienced another growth spurt, skipping his teen years and turning into a handsome young man of around 25 or so. Prian also began displaying magical skills that were far beyond anything Liam could possibly understand.
Not long after his second growth spurt, Prian fell in love with one of Liam's younger friends at the castle and moved in with her. Liam used the freedom to bury himself deeper and deeper into his magical studies, untill he became neglectful of his son, not understanding how to relate to him anymore.
During their time at the manor, though, they acquired a few interesting animal friends. One was a Siberian White Tiger that Liam named Kyan, who became one of Prian's closest playmates and companions. The other was a beautiful rainbow coloured dragon, that The Doctor's son Bart had given them, which Liam named Pandemonium, or simply Pan for short. Pan is a highly intelligent dragon, and something of a companion and teacher to Prian.
Not long after Prian moved out, Thunto disappeared, lost in a time travel accident. Liam mourned for her for a couple years, untill he found another lover, this one a vampire. During the course of their relationship, Liam was carefull not to be bitten by her. He had taken long enough coming to terms with being a werewolf, and did not want the extra problems of being a vampire hybrid.
One day, he was helping his son do some maintenance. On a time machine Prian's grandfather had left him, when an accident launched them into the past. When they managed to get back, they learned that they'd been declared dead, and that their friends and family had moved on with their lives. Now they must start all over again, and try to forget the heartache of lost loves.
When in wolf form, Liam goes by the pack name Mist, and his coat is silvery grey.

Liam in a galaxy far far away
Current mood:  creative

The day had started out just like any other. Liam woke up and showered, then went to breakfast and decided what he would do for the day. This morning, however, he thought he'd do something a little different, like checking to see if the defensive wards over the castle could be strengthened or not. He quickly finished breakfast and cleaned the kitchen, then went deep downstairs to the sub-levels beneath the dungeons where the castle's ward-stone resided.

Entering the massive chamber, Liam's nose wrinkles a little over the dust. He thinks nothing of it and pulls back his sleeves, allowing him full use of his arms. As he begins to incant a guiding spell to help contain and control the power of the ward-stone, his hands and arms start to sweep through the air, weaving an intricate pattern and slowly gathering the castle's magical energy together. Once the guide spell was in place, he begins to incant an invocation that would extend the wards over the entire grounds, and not just the castle itself.
Just as he's about to complete the spell, his nose twitches and he lets out an enormous sneeze. Startled, Liam quickly attempts to discharge his spell, but the energy had already swelled up beyond his control. As he vainly tries to hold back the buildup, the ward-stone begins to glow brighter and brighter, illuminating the vast chamber with a blinding light.
Suddenly, Liam feels the energy hit a peak, and is knocked unconscious by a tremendous blast.
When he comes to, Liam's first thought is that the power must still be building, and brings a hand up to shade his eyes. When he opens them and looks around, however, he discovers how wrong he is. Blinking against a bright sunlight, he looks around the barren stretch on desert he'd suddenly found himself in. At first, Liam thinks he must have accidentally transported himself to Egypt or somewhere similar, but when the temperature and light suddenly start to increase, he turns and stares in shock as a second sun breaks over the crest of the far distant horizon. Fighting down a panic attack, Liam quickly realizes that he'd been sent to a completely different planet than Earth.
With a million different questions running through his head, Liam starts climbing a nearby dune, to see what he could see. Shading his brow with both hands, he does a slow turn as he scans the horizon. Just as he's about to think he's on a lifeless world, he spots a reflection in the distance. Deciding that it's better than just sitting there, he begins a long march toward the reflection, hoping to find some sign of civilization.
After several long and hot hours of walking under the baking twin suns, Liam peers ahead to see that the reflection in being cast from the side of a huge vehicle, lumbering over the dunes by way of tracks much like those of a tank. Curious and growing parched with thirst, he hurries his steps, angling to intercept the course of the vehicle.
As he gets closer, the tank-thing grinds to a halt, and Liam spots a group of small robed beings emerging from a hatch in it's side. One of them spots him approaching, and points him out to it's companions, chittering away in something that sounded like some kind of a cross between chipmunk chatter and Swahili or something. As the group approaches him, Liam casts a translation spell over himself, hoping that it works on different planets. The spell starts to work when the small creatures surround him, and one of them reaches out timidly to touch his trenchcoat. "They're traders!", he realizes as their chatter begins to make sense to him. Relying on a few key-words of their language and a great deal of hand gesturing, Liam gets one of the creatures ( who he learns are called Jawas ) to understand him. The one who pointed him out ( likely the leader ) pulls out a worn leather-like bag from inside their vehicle ( a sandcrawler ) and hands it to Liam, who pantomimes his gratitude before taking a long drink.
Passing the bag back to the leader, Liam sees a few of the Jawas assembling a strange tower like machines short way from the crawler. Another round of charades and he learns that it is a moisture vaporator, for collecting water from the dry atmosphere. Fascinated, he plunks down on the sand to watch them operate it. After a short time, however, it becomes apparent that something is wrong. He turns to the leader to inquire about the problem, and is informed that the air in this area of the desert doesn't have enough moisture in it for the vaporator to work. Smiling, Liam stands up and tells the Jawas that he'll try to help. Removing his trenchcoat and setting it folded on the ground where he'd been sitting, he attempts a summoning spell to call forth some rain. Unfortunately, with so little moisture in the air and environment, the most he can conjure are a few small and thin clouds. That, however, apparently turns out to be more than the Jawas needed, and their vaporator quickly begins to collect a great deal of water.
The Jawas begin to jump around in excitement, and sayings "Jedi" to him a lot. Unsure what they mean, Liam assumes that Jedi must mean "Rain bringer" or something similar, and smiles graciously to them. Their leader then gratefully offers him a ride to the nearest settlement. Liam accepts their offer, and helps the Jawas bring their vaporator back. To the crawler, once it has collected a full load of water. They then all pile inside for a ride to a place that sounded like Mos Paisley, or something. Liam finds himself a space to sit amidst a strange looking collection of robots and machinery, all in different states of poor repair, and waits out the ride.
When they arrive at the settlement, Liam disembarks and hands the Jawas some Earth coinage from his pocket, as payment for the drink and the ride, then waves farewell to his new friends, and head into the settlement, hoping to find someone or something that can help him get back home.
