Down once more. Second Reply

—   Down Once More
Her eyes widened as Erik grabbed her by the shoulders. Had she gone mad? It was certainly a valid question, but no…she was not mad. She allowed her arms to fall to her sides as Erik pulled away only to stumble backward when more embers fell between them. He was hissing at her to go back to her precious Vicomte, but truth be told, if the Vicomte had heeded her warning, and taken a horse and run away from the inferno that was the opera house now, he would probably be a few miles away by now, and certainly not within earshot. And after everything, Erik was certainly not in his right mind at this moment. How could she leave him?

“Erik…I sent him away before I came back here. I am not going back to him. Yes, you may have released me, but I had already made my choice. I am not going back on it now. I am not leaving without you.”

She glanced toward the exit nearest them which was the opposite of the one she had come in, and thought of making her way toward it, but for some reason her feet were rooted where she stood, and would not budge. Was this man willing to give up on everything they had built to simply wither and die?

An impossible situation indeed. Oh how she wished he would come to his senses and realize she was going to make good on her promise to stay with him of her own accord even after he had released her. It broke Christine’s heart that Erik had never experienced love in its truest and purest form. Especially from his own mother, who should have nurtured and protected him, but instead shunned him simply because of a deformity that he was born with and did not ask for. Oh her poor unhappy Erik…

A spray of hot embers rained down, pulling her from her reverie, pulling her to her senses; causing her to bolt before the wedding dress she was in caught fire. She bolted toward the escape route but stopped just in front of the opening, the expression in her eyes pleading for Erik to please come to his senses and come with her. She held out her hand for him to take as she heard the mob coming closer. “Erik…please.” her voice cracking and breaking as tears pricked her eyes, her voice threatening a sob. “Please…allow me to protect you just as you protected me.”

Down Once More

The smoke from the fire in the upper areas of the opera above limited Christine’s sight a bit, but she could make out Erik’s form through it. It appeared as though he was sitting by the monkey. She cast a quick glance toward the portcullis and furrowed her eyebrows. Thankfully she didn’t see the mob, but that didn’t mean they weren’t nearby. It only took a moment for her to turn her head back to Erik.

She glanced at the ring still affixed to her left hand finger, but she made no attempt to pull it off, she only hoped that Raoul had used common sense and left after she told him to leave, because she was going to ensure she escaped with Erik. Closing the distance between them, she stood adjacent to him, hoping he would at least acknowledge her presence. Slowly, she leaned toward him and placed a hand gently upon his shoulder. “Erik…” she intoned gently, once again hoping to pull him out of his reverie back to reality. She was not about to allow the mob to have their way with him, or even the gendarmerie. “Erik, we have to get out of here. The mob is coming for you, and if not that, then this place will burn down around you.” she paused for a moment, hearing him say those three words.

She could feel a lump rising within her throat at them, threatening to cut off her ability to breathe. She wanted desperately to acknowledge them, but right now was certainly not the time nor place. She couldn’t acknowledge them and then have one or both of them die before they could even begin a life together. Heaven knew this was going to be far from easy. Even a life with him was not going to be easy, whether or not she sacrificed herself and her happiness to keep Raoul safe.

At this point, she could care less about Raoul. He could have any woman he wanted, hell…even one within his own station. She sighed, not wanting to raise her voice and attract attention to anyone who may be nearby. “Erik!” She paused for only a moment while she collected her thoughts. “I do know a place we can go…at least until we can figure out what to do next.’

Rules

First and foremost, I have no affiliation with the estate of Gaston LeRoux, nor any of his work, namely Le Fantome de la Opera.  Christine Daae and the rest of the Characters dipicted wherein belong to him, or now in the public domain.  I am just a roleplayer plain and simple.

I have been writing Christine since 2004, when I started in private chatrooms on YIM messenger, then moved her to Myspace.  I was then in the POTOverse on Myspace for the remainder of the verse when it folded.  I have since moved on and played other characters in the meantime, some of which you all possibly know well.  But Christine as remained close to my heart, and I can just not bear to give her up and put her into retirement.  We all have characters that are extremely close to us, and Christine happens to be mine.

I play her slightly au, but close to how Gaston LeRoux would have envisioned her and I try to keep my portrayal of her as a basis...and close to either the original book or the Kay version.  I tend to shy away from the Lloyd webber version, even though I do use pictures of various actresses from the musical for my faces.

I am a literate multi para to novella writer, depending on inspiration.  No one liners please, as I will ignore them.  I am usually fairly flexible when it comes to storylines, but I ask that you give me something I can work with, and I will do the same for you.  I am not a big advocate of the you add, you start, but I do require a discussion before hand.

Drama.  I will not tolerate it, nor will I tolerate godmodding.  In an established storyline, for the sake of storyline progression I do not mind you moving my character, but it should be discussed beforehand.

LI, yes I will have main Phantom's and Raoul's but only one, as I am not a multi-storyline writer.

More to come.

I am No Longer the Girl you Knew. *Drabble Reply."

She sighed and tossed the napkin on the empty plate, then rose to her feet.  Though she knew Raoul was well within his reasoning she could not say that she agreed with this arrangement in the slightest.  She looked at him for a long moment with cool indifference, much like she had given him at the opera at times.  She needed time to think about this.  "I need some air." she stated flatly, and turned on her heel.  She needed to be alone with her thoughts.  Away from Raoul, away from the maids, away from guards...away from this feeling of suffocation that she couldn't seem to be able to shake.

Placing her hand on the door, she allowed her head to fall lightly against the surface. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Raoul had only seen the evidences of the Phantom and the killings that had occurred throughout the opera, never what she saw while she was was below the opera with him. Perhaps the Phantom was a monster, but Erik was not.

She turned back to Raoul, her own eyes blazing. "How many times have I told you, Raoul...how many times? Honestly I do not care what you do. Your estate belongs to you and you are perfectly well within your bounds to protect it in whatever way you see fit. You've only seen the evidences of the Phantom from the mishaps within the opera....never have you seen what I have. I see an extremely lonely man who has been driven mad from lack of human companionship. A man who is starving for the slightest bit of human company. Everyone deserves human companionship, from the lowliest to the most mighty.

But only allowing me to see him under supervision, Raoul? Do you not have the slightest trust in me? This would feel almost like a prison as well. If you recall, I was also imprisoned, Raoul. By his deceit when he was pretending to be my father. But we have moved past that, Raoul."

She sighed then turned to approach him, taking both his hands and squeezed them just slightly. "Raoul, he is no longer the Voice I heard in my dressing room that I once thought was the Angel sent by my father. He has a name, and it is no longer Phantom or Angel. It is Erik, and I am perfectly safe, I assure you."

She looked up to him and lightly brushed a lock of hair away from his face. "But you should also know I am no longer the girl you once knew, Raoul. You must understand that. Yes, I love you, and will continue to do so, no matter if we are together or not. But, I cannot betray him. He has shown me a kindness long before you ever showed up at the opera.

After my father died, I lost the desire to sing. And I sounded no better than a clanging cymbal. Toneless, hollow. No soul. He returned the soul to my voice, and that is what you hear. He has imprinted his mark upon my voice...he didn't have to, but he did, and I am obligated to repay that same kindness.

Were I the same girl that you once knew, I would have jumped at the chance to run away with you. But I cannot, Raoul. You and I both know this." She then lightly lifted herself upon her toes and kissed his cheek, while threading her fingers through his hair. "I know it hurts to hear this. But please, please don't be angry with me. You know I could not help being swept off my feet when you first entered my dressing room. "
