Marriage

MarriageLieutenant Commander Data and Lieutenant Natasha Yar had been in a serious relationship for nearly two years now. They shared two children, and a home aboard the Enterprise. They seemed to be sharing everything that a young couple might, all except one thing. They were not married, they weren't even engaged to be married. Neither had truly seen the point in it though Data had asked a few times recently and Tasha had gently declined. She didn't want him to ask out of guilt or social pressure for them to be married. She didn't believe marriage truly mattered to Data so therefore it didn't matter to her either.-
Both Data and Tasha were in attendance of Keiko and Miles O'Brien's wedding, Data who was good friends with Keiko had walked her down the aisle. It was a lovely ceremony. Everyone seemed happy when the two had their first kiss, claps sounded all around them. Tasha noticed Data looking toward the newlyweds almost longingly.

She hesitated for a moment before leaning over to him, speaking so only they could hear. "It's a bit overrated if you ask me.." she said softly. Data looked to her confused for a moment. "I think it is beautiful." Tasha only shrugged her shoulders and remained quiet.

After the main part of the wedding, a small party was taking place. Tasha stood alone, away from the rest of the party. She had been considering what Data had said. It was beautiful, perhaps she was being too cynical.

Tasha sighed quietly though looked up as Data approached. "You aren't going to propose again, are you? That would be three times in two months." Data shook his head "no. But I still would like to marry you. And it is not for the reasons you think." He said calmly.

Tasha rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. The first time Data had proposed marriage to her had been when they found out they could not have a third child. The second time had been after a conversation with the Captain. Looking to Data she frowned "Data.. I'm just not wife material. I'm barely-" she stopped herself and forced a smile.

"This day isn't about us anyway. It's about Keiko and Miles." Data nodded though took Tasha's hand. "I will not bring it up again.. today. But I will continue to ask until you say yes." Tasha looked to Data for a few moments before he asked her to dance. She nodded hesitantly though allowed Data to pull her toward the party.

Adam

"I just don't understand.. how he could do this..." Tasha said as she stood with Data on the turbolift. She still wasn't convinced that this was Data. She was unaware that their son Adam had not only rebuilt Data but restored all of his memories, all up until the last few weeks leading up to his death.

The moment the turbolift doors opened there stood Adam and Lal. Lal instantly backed up and Adam gave a small yelp as he let go of her hand and began rushing down the corridor. Tasha rushed after him and quickly caught up to him, the two struggling for a few minutes before Tasha finally got the upper hand. Now a grown woman wrestling a child might have looked strange but given Adam's genetic enhancements it was more like wrestling with a Klingon.

"Adam!" She shouted gripping his arm as he weakly tried to get away from her. "What have you done!? I told you not to build an android! You can't keep doing this!" Adam shot a glare at her. "Keep showing I'm smart!" "No! Disobeying me! If anyone finds out what you are! Do you not understand!? Do you want to be taken away from me!?"

"No!" Adam shouted, Tasha groaning. "No what!? No you don't understand? Or no you don't want to be taken away!?" "No!" Adam shouted and finally pulled from Tasha's grip rushing to his sister. Lal had been covering her ears but now welcomed her brother, holding him as he buried his face against her. ".. Mother... I was helping him. It is both our fault." Lal tried to say.

Standing Tasha frowned "Starfleet knows what you are... they know what to expect from an android. But you don't think they are going to ask questions about how a seven year old built an android? If Starfleet finds out what Adam is... I could lose you both. I've lost enough!"

Still cowering Adam looked to Tasha "that's why I did it Mom.. because I knew how much you wanted him back.. and it is him. He's got all his memories." Tasha looked to Data for a moment. The idea that he was in fact himself was taunting and tempting. Shaking her head she looked to Adam. "I don't want him if it means losing you. Adam.. this is a problem. Starfleet can't ever know you're an augment.." she said in almost a whisper.

Now Data finally stepped in. "I suggest we take this conversation to the privacy of our quarters. I assume.. they are still where I remember them?" Tasha looked to him and nodded, a quiet sigh leaving her as Lal picked up Adam and hurried on ahead.

Lost and alone...

Lost and Alone...

By: Tasha Yar

Lost and alone, something Natasha Yar was quite used to. From a young age, she had been both of these things, and even now, away from Turkana IV, safe on Earth she was still alone. On Turkana IV life was a living hell but it was a life Tasha had come to learn to deal with, how to roll with the punches, the ups, and the downs but now here on Earth things were so different. She wasn't like the others her age, she wasn't like anyone around her.

Though she was intelligent Tasha was having a difficult time with everything from academics to basic forms of socializing. None of the others around her had ever had to deal with the horrors she had at such a young age and now at Starfleet Academy, among her fellow students, she was an outcast. She heard the whispers behind her back, the sympathetic looks from adults around her. She was known as some wild child brought from a barbaric planet. Though no one dared bully her for this the whispers and pitty were more than enough to get under her skin.

Despite being an outcast she had befriended one student, a Klingon named Worf. Like Tasha, he too was looked on with pity and little understanding. He too was in a place he belonged and yet didn't. The two had bonded over this isolation but also they were similar in their pasts. Both orphaned at a young age, both having a traumatic childhood, though Worf's was to a far less degree it still bonded the two.

More than often Tasha would be in Worf's dorm room, Worf had no roommate and Tasha avoided her dorm room and roommate at all costs. On this night she sat studying with Worf, she sat staring at the book on her lap, it still being hard for her to grasp basic things like reading. Looking up for a moment she could feel the tears filling in her eyes, first, she felt sadness for being so... uneducated, and then she felt anger.

Flinging her book across the room it hit Worf who was sitting opposite from her. Growling a little in irritation he looked at her. "What is the problem?!" He asked in his gruff tone. She frowned "I can't do this! How am I supposed to train to be a Starfleet officer if I can barely read!" She snapped angrily, tears streaming down her face. Rolling his eyes Worf attempted to hand her the book back. "You can do this." He said, Tasha, frowned still feeling she couldn't. "And if I refuse?" She asked defiantly, Worf, and her sharing a glare before he yanked the book back.

"Then I will read it to you... and help you learn every word you do not understand." Hesitantly Tasha crawled across the floor and took the book from Worf. She began to read from the text aloud and whenever she reached a word she could not say or understand he helped her. Tasha was an outcast. An abused child filled with fear and rage, But she was also strong and with the help of one friend slowly she became less of what she was and more of what she could be. Little did she or Worf know they'd one day both be Starfleet officers, well-respected ones at that. They wouldn't be outcasts forever.
