Heat Wave.

"Mommy! Mommy, it's hot! Can we go swimming?" Emma's daughter Gracelynn called out from her room as Emma walked into the house. She knew that was the first thing her daughter would ask her when she got home. It was the hottest it had ever been in New York and Emma felt like her whole body was on fire every time she walked out of the house. "Of course sweetheart! Make sure to get your swimsuit on and then mommy will put sunscreen on you!" Emma called upstairs to her daughter as she sat her things down on the floor. She wondered where her sister was because she knew Anatasia was home since she had told her she would watch Gracelynn and Landon. She figured she was probably upstairs with her kids and that's why she didn't see her.

Emma walked up to the stairs to the second floor of the townhome she lived in and down the hallway to her daughter's room. "Are you getting ready?" Emma asked her daughter with a smile as she walked into her room. "Yes mommy, Riley is helping me find a cute bathing suit that I can wear out to the pool. I am having a hard time choosing one and I want to look pretty." Gracelynn told her mother as Emma smiled and nodded her head. She loved when her daughter asked her things like that and she couldn't believe she was growing up so fast. "Of course I can, then I need to go help you brother pick out his swimming trunks and change," Emma replied as she looked at the bathing suits on her daughter's bed and pointed to the bright pink one.

"I think you should wear this bright pink one sweetheart. It will look very pretty on you and I am sure everyone will love it. Can you put it on or do you need me to?" Emma asked her daughter with a smile. "I can put it on mommy, go help Landon but thank you," Gracelynn replied as Emma smiled and nodded her head, then she bent down and kissed the top of her daughter's head gently. She walked out of the room and down the hallway to her son's room. She walked into Landon's room and smiled seeing him sitting on his bed. "Come on honey, let's get you dressed to go to the pool," Emma told her son with a smile as she walked to his dresser and opened the drawer. She took out a pair of his swimming trunks and then closed the drawer.

Emma walked over to her son and took his nightclothes off then put the swimming trunks on him. She smiled watching as he clapped his hand in excitement. She loved seeing the smile on his face when they went to the pool. He couldn't swim, so she always had to hold him but she didn't mind it. She was just happy he was enjoying himself because she knew some kids didn't like going to the pool and being around water. "Are you really excited, buddy?" She asked her son with a smile as he nodded his head. She finished getting him ready then sat him up. "Okay, let's get going." She told him as she picked him up and walked out of his room. She was soon met by her daughter and she walked them both down the stairs and out of the house.

After getting them both in the car and then buckling them, she got herself into the car and buckled her own seat belt too. She backed out of the driveway and then put her car in drive and began to drive down the road. 10 minutes later she had finally arrived and parked her car in a parking spot. She unbuckled her seat belt and got out then got her kids out of the car after unbuckling them. She got their stuff for the pool and then touched the door handle to lock her car. When they got to the pool and found their place Emma smiled seeing her friend Victor sitting on the other chairs beside them. "Hey, Victor! I didn't know you were going to be here today, how are you?" Emma asked her friend with a smile as she began to put sunscreen on her children.

Dear Younger Me.

Dearest Emma,

You are going to go through a lot of trauma as you grow up. You are going to experience a lot of heartbreak. You are going to be treated in ways, I couldn't expect you to understand but you will overcome it all. It's going to be a rough journey for you, but you beat all odds in the end. I want you to know that even if it seems hopeless that everything is going to be okay. You will have people who will be there for you. You are going to marry a wonderful man who will give you two children. Even though you might lose him shortly after, those kids will be your life. They will be your pride and joy. So you don't have to worry. You will get pregnant again and do something horrible. Don't let it affect you, the person you do it to deserved it.

I'm sorry you have had to go through so much. I wish I could take that all away from you. I can promise you that it only gets better with time. You have to be strong and tell yourself that you can do this. You will have people who love you with you while you go on this up and down journey. You are a strong woman and you can do so much. I am so proud of everything that you are going to accomplish. It has taken a bit for you to get there, but you do and that's what matters. Don't let anyone tell you that you are not good enough. You are the strongest person I know. You will get through whatever life throws at you. I may not know much but I know that in my heart. You are an amazing woman.

I believe in you and so many people believe in you. Today it might feel hard, but tomorrow is a different day. You are stronger than others tell you that you are. You have a purpose in life even when people make you feel like you don't. Don't listen to any of those negative people in your life. They are wrong about you and you deserve better than negative people. You are a strong independent woman and everyone will see that. You must always believe in yourself because it's what is going to get you through all of this. You will have many obstacles but don't fret because you can get through them. I am so proud of you for being able to get through that mess with the cult. In the end, you will get free and you will never have to deal with them again.

You will become such a strong person. Everyone will take you seriously and that cult will be behind you. They tried to break your spirit but they will fail. There's nothing you can't do if you set your mind to something Emma. There is no one in this world who can stop you from doing the things you want to do. I want you to always remember that. No matter what anyone tells you I know you are going to do great things. I have faith in you and I am proud of the woman you are becoming now. It seems pointless where you are right now but I assure you that it is not. I am so proud of you and I know no one really tells you that anymore, but I am. You have become the woman that we always knew you could be. She's in there you just have to find her.

You are the bravest woman I know. I just wanted to give you words of encouragement and tell you that I believe in you. Even if you think no one does, I do. You are a special girl and you make me proud. You make so many people proud even if they don't say it out loud. Eventually, they will and you will be so happy. I can't believe I am lucky enough to know you and be you in the future. You are an amazing person and so wonderful. Even though you don't always make the best choices, you try to do the right ones. You are going to save so many people and it's moments like now that cause you to want to do so. You are going to be a hero. I can't wait for you to see the amazing things you are going to do Emma. I am so proud of you.
Sincerely,
Emma

Helping in New York.

The one thing Emma loved more than anything else was helping people. That was why the minute she got the chance to do so, she did. She worked her way into the force and soon enough she had become a detective. "How does it feel to be a hero?" Her sister asked her with a smile. "I'm not a hero, I just love helping people. Putting bad guys away is what I love. No one who wants to kill and harm people should get away with that. So I am happy to make sure that doesn't happen. I have to go help someone else. It's not a murder thankfully. I have to go help someone find a cat that they lost. Sometimes it's just nice to help out neighbors even if it comes to animals." Emma told her sister with a smile. She always felt proud that she got to help people.

"I'm glad you are doing something good with all of the pain you have been through. I know you did a very bad thing, but you are trying to make up for it. So helping people is a start. I am so proud of you." Anastasia replied as Emma smiled. "Well, thank you, sis. That makes me really happy to hear. I need to go help her now, I will be back later." Emma told her sister as she hugged her tightly. She could not wait to go out there and help their neighbor. "Okay sis, have fun and be careful. Make sure to let me know if you find that cat." Anastasia replied with a smile. Emma nodded her head and then walked out of her sister's room. She made her way downstairs and out of the house. Thankfully the neighbor was in the townhome next door to theirs. So Emma didn't have to walk far.

Quickly, she made her way over next door and knocked on the door. When the woman answered Emma smiled. "Hello Mrs. Little, are you ready to find that cat?" Emma asked her neighbor with a smile. "I sure am. Thank you so much for doing this. I didn't mean to ask but I know you are a detective. So you help find people and I thought you might be able to help find my cat too. I know it's people you usually find, so is this okay?" Mrs. Little asked as Emma smiled and nodded her head. "Of course. I am here to help any citizen of New York. So if you are in need to find your cat, I am here to help. So where do you want to look first?" Emma asked her with a smile. She always wanted to let the people she was helping guide her.

"The last time I saw her she was in the kitchen. I think one of my kids must have accidentally let her out. If she's outside, I have no idea where she is. I just really want her back she's never been outside before, she's a house cat." Mrs. Little told her as Emma put a hand on the woman's shoulder to comfort her. "Don't worry Mrs. Little, we will find her. Let's go outside and see if she's back there. We always go to the last place you saw her. If you saw her in the kitchen, maybe she got out through the back door." Emma told her as she walked with her out the back door. She wanted to check the trees because she knew cats liked to climb. They had a silly way of being able to get up a tree but not being able to get down one.

"Let's check the trees out back first. Then we can check the trees out front. She's probably just in one and can't get down. You go check over there on the right. I will check all the trees on the left." Emma told her with a smile. As Emma made her way over to the trees she searched until she heard a small faint sound. It sounded like an animal in distress. Even more, it sounded like meowing which meant it had to be her cat. "I think I found your cat, Mrs. Little. Can you get me a ladder?" Emma asked her as she looked up at the tree. Within a few minutes, she looked down to see Mrs. Little with a ladder in her hand. She took the ladder from her and climbed it to the top. Once she was on the top step she got the cat out of the tree and climbed back down. "There you go. She's safe now." Emma told her with a smile as she handed the cat to the woman. "Thank you so much, Emma. You really her a hero." Mrs. Little responded as she took the cat from her and hugged her. "Thank you, Mrs. Little. I don't think I am a hero, but I do love helping people. I am just glad you found your cat and he is safe and sound. Have a good day Mrs. Little." Emma told her as she hugged the woman back and then left her house. She felt really good to help people and this was one of the many reasons why.
