Alice had called Bowie in the middle of the night asking if she could come over. Bowie said of course she could. Alice was her best friend and she would do anything for her. The two were extremely close and Bowie always had her back. Bowie threw on some clothes so she looked a little more presentable. She headed downstairs and waited for Alice to arrive. Bowie was nervous since it was unusual for Alice to contact her in the middle of the night, she knew it must be something serious.

Bowie finally heard a soft tapping at her door. She got up and answered it, and allowed Alice inside. “Thanks for letting me come over” she spoke softly. “You’re welcome. Would you like a drink?” She asked. Alice nodded. “Coffee?” Again Alice nodded. Bowie headed into the kitchen and made them both a coffee before heading back to the living room.

Bowie sat down and sipped her coffee, she waited for Alice to say something. Alice didn’t say anything though. She just kept looking down and all around, whilst fidgeting in her seat. She was acting very odd. “What’s going on Alice?” She questioned. Alice sighed as if she had been waiting for Bowie to finally ask her.

“Something happened last night and I need to tell you, but please promise me you won't be upset." Alice said. “What?” Bowie asked. “I got an order to kill someone. I know we’ve been working on a plan to take down Dr Ryan, and I promised I wouldn’t kill anyone else but...” she paused. “One of the cult members entered my home and threatened to take my children. I had no choice Bowie” she said, informing Bowie of what was so urgent. “It’s okay I understand” Bowie replied. “We need to think of a plan faster and take that pr*ck out for good” she added.

#1 Main dish -  Cheesy Asparagus One Pot Orzo

  • ½ lb asparagus
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup orzo
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ cup shredded cheese, (we used Trader Joe’s 4 Cheese Blend but you could use parmesan, asiago, or any blend)
  • ¼ cup sun dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts

  • Cut off and discard the tough ends of the asparagus, and then chop asparagus into 1” pieces.
  • Add the asparagus, waterorzooil, and all the spices into a pot. Bring to a low boil (this took us 4 1/2 minutes) and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the orzo is tender.
  • Reduce heat and add the cheesesun dried tomatoes, and pine nuts. Stir until the cheese has melted.
  • Remove from heat, season to taste with salt and pepper, and enjoy!
#2 Side dish - Broccoli Sunshine Salad

  • 15 slices bacon
  • 1 head broccoli cut florets into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup red onion diced
  • 1/2 cup sweet raisins
  • 3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Sprinkle with cheddar cheese for serving optional

  • Prepare your ingredients, heat source and equipment as directed.
  • In large skillet, thoroughly cook bacon over medium high heat until crispy.
  • Remove bacon from pan and set on plate lined with paper towels to drain. Once cool, crumble and set aside. Camp Cooking Tip: I like to make the bacon while making breakfast so all of the cooking is done for this broccoli salad recipe. Then, I just have to assemble the raw salad later in the day or even the next day.
  • In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, onion and raisins, mixing to fully blend the ingredients.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar and mayonnaise to make the homemade dressing.
  • Stir the dressing with the broccoli mixture, toss until completely combined.
  • Chill in refrigerator or cooler until ready to serve, at least two hours for best flavor and texture. This recipe can be made several days in advance as well.
  • Toss the bacon and sunflower seeds with the salad and dressing immediately before serving. You want them to stay crunchy rather than get too soggy by sitting in the dressing.
  • Sprinkle with cheddar cheese, if desired. Serve cold.
#3 Dessert dish -  Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler

  • Butter. My Grammy’s recipe calls for a full stick; I trimmed it down to 6 tablespoons with lusciously buttery results.
  • Flour. I used a mix of white whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour for the sake of sneaking in a few whole grains. Feel free to go for 100% all-purpose if you care to be a peach cobbler purist. (It is summer, after all.)
  • Sugar. My Grammy’s recipe uses sugar in both the peach filling AND in the cobbler topping. I used honey in the cobbler filling instead. I adore honey and peaches together, and it leaves me wiggle room for an extra scoop of ice cream.
  • Milk. Any kind of you like! Grammy uses whole milk. I used almond milk because that was what we had in the refrigerator. Both work deliciously.
  • In-season, ripe peaches are the stuff of summer dreams. If you can get your hands ripe, fresh peaches, I beg you to use them to make this Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler…and I might even say that if you can’t get them, wait until next summer and make this recipe a priority.
  • That said, if you can’t find fresh peaches and need peach cobbler in your life STAT (understandable), you can use canned peaches. Buy the best quality you can find and drain away any excess syrup first (this is how Paula Deen’s Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler recipe is written, so there must be some tasty truth to it).
  • If you’d like to make this Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler with frozen peaches, I suggest using only frozen peaches that you know were picked in peak season. Sometimes the bags of smoothie-style peaches can be flat.

  • First, make sure you are using a camp dutch oven like this.
  • Next, preheat 45 charcoal briquettes until white and glowing.
  • Lightly butter the inside of a camp dutch oven—do not melt the butter inside of it as with the oven method. Prepare the peach filling as directed.
  • In a separate bowl, stir together the topping ingredients as directed. After adding the milk, stir in the melted butter. Spoon the fruit into the bottom of the buttered dutch oven, along with any juices that have collected. Slowly pour the batter over the top of the peaches. DO NOT STIR.
  • To Cook: Cover the dutch oven with its lid. Place 15 hot charcoal briquettes together (they will be covered with ash) and set dutch oven over them. Using tongs, place the remaining 30 briquettes on the dutch oven lid. (This number and placement is necessary for the dutch oven to reach 350 degrees F.)
  • After 10 minutes, rotate the dutch oven over the coals clockwise and the lid over the dutch oven counter clockwise to promote even cooking.
  • Check after 20 minutes. The cobbler is done when the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling.
  • Continue cooking as needed—about 35 to 45 minutes or so total—the time will vary based on the exact temperature of your coals, so trust your judgement and adjust the time as needed. The cake will rise higher than it does with the oven method. Because the fruit is placed underneath the cobbler batter instead of on top of it, it doesn’t weight it down. This order is to keep the fire from burning the bottom of the batter.
  • Your campfire Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler will taste just as fabulous as the standard oven method!

Bowie had received a call from her best friend Benjamin. He was coming back to town for the day with Love, as he had some things to take care of. He had asked her to meet up in the afternoon so they could hang out, and of course she agreed. It seemed like forever since the two had last seen each other. She was excited to see him, but she also knew her heart would hurt all over again when he had to leave. She wished he would return to town. But he had started a life somewhere new now. He had left his life in Hartsville behind, which included her.

Taking a deep breath she headed out to the front porch and waited for his car. When he pulled up she got in and the two went for a drive. They found themselves at a drive in and watched a movie before heading to the beach. The two walked and talked, and took in the scenery. They even got ice cream. It was a beautiful afternoon. They then went for dinner, and drove up in the hills so they could watch the sunset and stargaze. It was just like old times. She wanted it to last forever, but forever was impossible.

He drove her home and walked her up to her door. “Thanks for a wonderful day” she said to him. “You’re welcome! I wanted it to be special, I’ve missed you” he replied. “I’ve missed you too” she said. “Benny listen...” she paused for a moment. “If I asked you to stay would you?” she asked. A sigh escaped his lips. “I wish I could, but I can’t. Right now it’s too painful. I’m sorry Bow” he said. She nodded “it’s okay I understand” she said. The two hugged before he headed to his car. “See you around” she called out. “Not if I see you first” he laughed.

Bowie had gone to Aspen to visit her sister. She was recording some new songs and doing a few performances. She’d invited Bowie along, and since Bowie missed her so much she easily agreed. Bowie woke and headed out to an early morning snow yoga class. It was incredibly peaceful and a little bit magical. After class she arrived back at the cabin before her sister was even awake. She showered and got ready before heading to the kitchen.

Bowie made some breakfast and a coffee and sat down and ate. Her sister then came out of her room. “Morning! Sorry I can’t hang with you today. I’m booked in for a long recording session” Avery said. Bowie smiled at her “it’s okay don’t worry about it. Your work is important I understand” she replied. “You going to be okay on your own?” Avery asked. Bowie nodded “I’ll be perfectly fine” she said. “Okay well I’ll be back at six and then I am going to take you to dinner” she firmly said. Bowie chuckled “okay I’ll see you at ox. I’ll be here” she said before hugging her sister and saying goodbye.

Bowie finished up and made a little picnic and threw it in her bag, then headed out on a hike. She wanted to spend the day out in nature. It was her happy place. Following the long trail she snapped some photos along the way. The time seemed to pass so quickly. She found a quiet spot and stopped and had some lunch. Then continued on the hike. She spotted a snowy owl and snapped a few photos. She noticed a storm rolling in so began heading back.

The storm seemed to be rolling in quickly so she began running. A staff member noticed her and told her to come into her cabin until the storm passes. She agreed. Grabbing her phone she texted her sister explaining the situation and that she may be late back to the cabin. She sat with the worker who she found out was named Anna. They chatted and drank hot chocolate. When the storm passed Anna have Bowie a ride on her snow mobile.

She thanked Anna for her kindness and then headed into the cabin. “I’ve been worried sick! here the hell were you!?” Avery said. “Well good to see you too” she replied. Looking at her phone she realised it was 7:00pm. “I’ve been waiting. I tried calling and texting and I got nothing” Avery said. “Actually I texted you” Bowie replied. Holding up her phone she showed her the text she sent. “Well I never got it” Avery said. Bowie took Avery’s phone and chuckled “probably because it’s on airplane mode” she said before handing it back. “Oh” she said. “Well I’m going to freshen up then we can head out” Bowie said before heading up to her room to get changed.
