THE BREAKUP. www.roleplayer.me/itsbenji The California sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, but Benji barely noticed. His eyes were fixed on Roman, whose silhouette stood rigid against the backdrop of the beach. The waves crashed rhythmically, a stark contrast to the tumultuous emotions swirling between them.
"Roman, please," Benji started, his usually confident voice wavering. "Can we talk about this?"
Roman turned, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. The pain etched across his face made Benji's heart clench. "Talk about what, Benji? How you always have one foot out the door? How I never know if you'll be here tomorrow or off chasing your next adventure?"
Benji stepped forward, his hand outstretched, but Roman flinched away. The rejection stung more than Benji expected. "I never meant to hurt you," he said softly, his charm failing him for once. "You know how much you mean to me." "Do I?" Roman's laugh was bitter, laced with hurt. "Because it feels like I'm just another stop on your journey. Another experience to add to your collection before you move on." The words hit Benji like a physical blow. He wanted to deny it, to promise that Roman was different, special. But the words caught in his throat. Because deep down, a part of him knew Roman wasn't entirely wrong.
"I love you," Benji whispered, the words feeling simultaneously true and inadequate.
Roman's eyes softened for a moment before hardening again. "I know you do, Benji. In your way. But love isn't enough if it doesn't come with stability, with a promise of a future."
Benji felt tears prickling at the corners of his eyes. His chest tightened with the weight of everything he wanted to say, everything he wished he could promise. But his wanderlust, his fear of being tied down, they were as much a part of him as his love for Roman. "I want to be enough for you," Benji admitted, his voice cracking. Roman stepped closer, cupping Benji's face in his hands. For a moment, Benji leaned into the touch, hope fluttering in his chest. But then Roman spoke, his voice soft and final. "I know you do. But wanting isn't the same as being, Benji. And I can't keep waiting for you to decide that I'm worth staying for." As Roman's hands fell away, Benji felt as though a piece of himself was being torn away.
He watched, paralyzed, as Roman turned and walked away, his figure growing smaller against the darkening sky. For the first time in his life, Benji felt the weight of his free spirit become a burden. The world that had always seemed full of endless possibilities suddenly felt empty. As the last rays of sunlight disappeared, Benji was left alone on the beach, wondering if the price of his freedom was too high.you said forever and i almost bought it
