Bob knew he ought to have welcomed the comment with gratitude. After all,well-wishes or expressions of concern for his welfare were so rarely offered. Instead, he responded with all the cynicism and dismissal of a man who had consistently demanded more of his world than it would ever deliver. He'd long ago abandoned old superstitions but not old memories. They were all he could truly call his own.
