"Lie to me then." - For Ed

Ed Warren had a few times mentioned an incident that had happened with Lorraine. One that took place during an exorcism. She had seen something that had left her so shattered that for eight days she wouldn't leave their bedroom. She wouldn't eat or drink. And she wouldn't speak to anyone, not even Ed. Ed had always spoken about those eight terrifying days for him when he thought he lost his wife for good. But he never spoke about the difficult days after. She did not just snap back. It was a process.

Lorraine had begun to eat and drink again though she still was barely speaking. So much so Judy had been sent to stay with her Grandmother for a few days while Ed tried to reach Lorraine. To bring her from the dark despair she seemed to be in.

Lorraine played the piano beautifully and usually, she played very light and happy tunes. But now when she did play the music was dark and ominous. Ed could only assume it was the lingering feelings she had from whatever she had seen.

He stood in the nearby doorway watching her place for a while, listening to the music she produced. When he couldn't listen anymore he walked over, touching her hands to make her stop. "Lorraine... Lorraine!" He held her fingers firmly to stop her.

Lorraine looked straight ahead, she still hadn't looked him in the eyes yet. "What?" She asked softly, her tone sounding tired and defeated. Frowning Ed turned her to face him. "You've got to tell me what happened. What you saw. If you don't it's going to destroy you. And I refuse to lose you to some demon." He said firmly.

Lorraine teared up at Ed's choice of words. She wasn't the one that was at risk of being lost. "Go away." She said and turned away from him again, continuing to play. It was the only thing that took her mind off of what she had seen, even for a few moments.

Normally Ed would give Lorraine her space but he wasn't going to be brushed off. "Lorraine tell me what you saw." He said again, Lorraine continued to play and spoke. "I saw the most terrible thing I could ever imagine." She said and only seemed to play harder as though if she kept playing she wouldn't have to think about it.

Ed frowned because though she had just told him what she saw it didn't answer his question. He felt she was holding more back from him and he was becoming frustrated. Not with her but because he didn't know how to help. He didn't know how to fix her.

"Lie to me then." He said looking at her, the hurt in his eyes as he left the room, upstairs she heard the door to Ed's office slam shut. She looked up and stopped playing, sitting there in silence for a few moments. She felt horrible keeping things from Ed. It sometimes physically made her ill to do so. But she couldn't tell Ed, she couldn't let him know what she saw.

Standing from the piano she headed out of the room and upstairs to Ed's office. She opened the door and watched Ed for a moment, he sat there with his head in his hands. She still couldn't bring herself to tell him. Instead, she slowly walked over to him. All she felt she could do was assure him she loved him, and that she was still there and would pull herself from the dark place she still was.

Walking over Ed lifted his and watched her. She pushed him back in his chair and slipped onto his lap. "I love you Ed... I just... I need time..." she whispered, now finally looking at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. Sighing Ed carefully removed her glasses setting them aside. He pulled her close and gently kissed her.

"Please Lorraine... don't let this consume you... I need you.." he whispered. Nodding Lorraine wrapped her arms around him. "I'm here. I'm here." She promised before burying her face into his shoulder crying quietly. This was the closest Ed had felt to her in the last week. He held her close, for as long as she needed while she cried out the last of the darkness and dread she felt. He knew it wouldn't go away completely. But he hoped this was bringing him closer to getting her back, her normal self back. The woman he fell in love with.
