The Awakening Pt 1: Glimpse into the past

-The halls of S.H.I.E.L.D. were buzzing with agents, hurrying around to get ready for morning briefings and receive assignments for the day. There had been an arrival new enemy that made an appearance in a small city in Montana the day before, and everyone was on high alert. In the training room, about a dozen or so agents were teamed up, sparring using various tools and techniques. The training room was always busy, as agents had to always be in top form and ready for a fight.

There was a woman and young girl teamed up. The woman had long black hair, lightly tied back in a ponytail, and soft brown eyes. The young girl faced her, hands in front ready to defend. Her long fiery red locks lie loose around her shoulders and her sharp blue eyes watched the woman before her carefully.

Aria was only 11, but she was smart and strong far beyond her years. Of course growing up in SHIELD helped a lot with that. She had been trained from such a young age in combat and weapon handling. Today was just another day in a string of many where she sparred with her mother, the woman she faced now. There was a strong focus before they both made a move.

Avaren studied her daughters motions, watching her feet, her hands, and her body each time she deflected a strike. Aria may only be 11, but Avaren has never “been easy on her.” Aria was strong enough to hold off her mother most days, and she was proud of her daughters accomplishments. She will be a strong and highly skilled agent one day.

They fought for near an hour when Avaren slipped up and felt a foot slip under her ankle and drop her to the ground. She let out an involuntary groan before smiling.-

“Well your certainly not holding back today...”

-Aria loosened up seeing her mother hit the ground. She smirked hearing her comment and shook her head.-

“Do I ever? You trained me better than that.. Come on, I’m starving and your late for debrief.”

-Arias said, holding out a hand to help her mother off the ground. Of course Avaren was not going to let her off that easy, there was still lessons to be taught. She took the helpful offer of her daughters hand and the moment her fingers wrapped around it a smirk crossed her face and she swung a foot under her daughters ankles while yanking her down to the side. By the time Aria realized what her mother was doing, it was too late. She felt her body hit the ground hard, and the moment her head made contact with the floor a massive wave of energy exploded outwards from her body. The agents in the room cried out as they were thrown into the surrounding walls. Her mother groaned as she hit a rack of sparring weapons before collapsing lifelessly to the ground.

For a moment there was silence... darkness... Arias eyes opened and she groaned in pain. Her head felt as if it were going to explode. She slowly sat up wondering what had happened, and her eyes grew wide. A dozen agents lined the walls, some moving, others not. She caught sight of her mother near the weapons rack and cried out.-

“Mom!”

-Aria tried to get to her feet, but an overwhelming weakness washed over her. She sat there on her knees, helpless. She felt something on her lip and reached up. She pulled back her hand to see red crimson on the tips of her fingers. Why was her nose bleeding? She hadn’t been hit had she? Within 20 seconds, other agents began to fill the room, confused and concerned about the commotion. Aria felt dizzy and tried again to stand. One of the agents who had entered the room approached her, asking her to remain where she was. She watched two agents approach her mother, trying to help her. One agent glanced back to her, and then looked at his partner.-

“Find Barton.. Now... and get Dr. Jenkins in here..”

-The second agent nodded and left the room. Aria remained frozen in the center of the room. What had happened? Had she done this? Had she hurt her mother? Dr. Jenkins came rushing in with a med bag. He assessed the room and cautiously approached Aria first. He didn’t know what had occurred, but he had an idea. He knelt down next to the distraught young girl.-

“Aria... Are you ok?”

-Dr. Jenkins remained calm, while reaching into his med bag for a small cloth to press against her nose.-

“My mom.... I don’t... I don’t know what happened... what’s going on... what have... I done.... my head...”

-Aria groaned placing her hands on the side of her head in pain. Dr. Jenkins eyes narrowed and he cautiously reached into his bag again. He pulled out a small syringe and removed the cap.-

“I’m going to give you something for the pain, then I’m going to help your mother and the others ok..?”

-Aria tried to object but she already felt the needle pierce through her soft skin. Her head became heavy, and thoughts swirling. The last thing she saw was a nearby agent placing a white blanket over a male agent on the ground. Her eyes closed and Dr. Jenkins held onto her as she grew limp. He had given her a strong sedative, not a painkiller. He knew whatever had happened here, she was at the center of it. He carefully lie her on the ground before rushing over to help those injured.-
