Ahshianni's History

Originally a Greek statue from the second century, Ahshianni and her twin Yurianni were bought to grace the gardens at the Hohenzollern Castle by one of the members of the family.  It was Burkhard I who was devoted to the care of the statues and hired a servant to see to their maintenance.  It was one of his heirs who reportedly dabbled in black magic.  While giving the outward appearance of a good Catholic, Count Adabert of Zollern dabbled in the occult.  He erected an altar and held dark rituals in the castle.  As a result, first Ahshianni and then Yurianni came to life.  In 1097, Adabert was forced to eventually choose between the two and Yurianni was returned to her marble state.  Ahshianna was kept as Adabert's lover, and she as educated.  She had a voracious appetite for books.  She also appeared not to age.  Eventually, Adabert died and her position was reconsidered.   She remained a guest of the castle.  In 1139, Count Frederick found her to be a good companion and taught her to fight with a sword.    She was continuing her classical education and remained close to the house of Zollerns.

In 1525, she left the place that had been her home and traveled to Denmark dressed as a man.  She lived as a traveling soldier for a time, hiding what she truly was. She discovered during that time that she could shape and hide in shadows.  It was also during this time that she discovered her ability to turn into a wolf.  This was during a visit from the ghost of Adabert himself, who declared that he would always love her.  Ahshianni dismissed his ghost, saying that as a statue, she had no heart.   She revealed the truth of herself to Christian II shortly after his coronation in 1534 and became his mistress.  She bore him a daughter in 1540 that she named Yurianni after her sister.  She remained with him until his death in 1559.  She was a friend and advisor to his successor, Frederick II.  Frederick II was good friends with his half-sister, Yurianni as well.

Yurianni eventually became the mistress of Prince Magnus of Sweden and bore him seven children.  They were never formally acknowledged, but reportedly were giving the same advantages as his legitimate children and married off to lesser nobles.  Yarianni died in  1577, at age 37.  Her death prompted Ahshianni to leave Denmark.

Ahshianni's young grandson Adoph traveled with her.  He was seven.  She took him to England.  There she sold many of the jewels and artifacts she had from Hohenzollern.  She bought a small estate in her grandson's name, which she changed to Alfred.  She undertook his education and made sure he was trained in speech so he would seem to be a native of the lands.  Like his grandmother, Alfred aged slowly.  At age twenty, he still appeared to be a boy.  It wasn't until he had been alive almost thirty-five years that he appeared to be in his teens.  Ahshianni took on the common name of Sarah at this time and presented Alfred as her son in society.  She managed to steadily increase the families standing as time moved on.  She moved herself and her grandson from England to Ireland and back.  Ahshianni had barely aged, and by 1625, Alfred appeared to be in his early twenties.  She was careful in placing Alfred in a position that placed him within the awareness of the nobility without choosing to go to court.  Alfred joined the church, though this did not keep him from following his grandmother's plotting.  He referred to her now as his sister Sarah.

By 1660, she had left England.  Alfred was an archbishop by this time with several children and she was ready for new adventures.  She moved to New Netherland, a Dutch colony on the east coast of America.  Her she became close to the Algonquian tribe. For a while she was able to join the tribes and move with them, keeping most of her valuables with her.  For over a hundred years she did so, moving from one tribe to another.  She sometimes remained in her wolf form for decades during this time.

In the mid-1860's, she emerged back into what was called civilized society.  She ran a boarding house in the city under the guise of being a Civil War widow named Sarah Godfrey.  She took long trips to the south and bought a home there.  Eventually, she created a will that established that her boarding house would pass to her daughter Alma.  She ended up establishing several new identities to conceal the fact that she was ageless. She took various lovers, careful not to conceive any more children.  She moved between New York, Savannah, New Orleans, Chicago and Denver.  By the 1940's she was quite wealthy and never kept all her wealth in one place or even in one currency.  She kept a great deal of gold to cover her expenses.  She funded a jazz club in Chicago and changed her name to Adelaide.  She garnered a rather wicked reputation and spent over twenty years in Chicago.  She left, leaving the club in charge of her best friend, Dahlia.  She claimed she would send her granddaughter to reclaim the club.  She went to live in New York again and altered her appearance with cosmetics to look older.  She returned to the club in late 1980, as her own granddaughter and under the name Alexa.  She remained again till 2002.  From there she decided to live in Denver.  She spends years reading and learning about new technologies.  She was also able to use her abilities to keep the crime rate from rising too fast.  Ahshianni has recently moved to Philadelphia, where she means to use her abilities to effect change.
