As anyone might have guessed Henry was still having a difficult time with the loss of his father, Neal. While there were many distractions to keep him from thinking on it the loss still did cross his mind, resonate in his heart as it did for many, Regina included."He loved you too." Henry said quietly. Regina's eyes had been closed though now they opened, slowly she moved back from Henry. "What?" She asked softly. Henry only gave a slight yet guilty smile. "Dad. He.. loved you too." He said again. Regina looked stunned for a moment, clearly trying to find the words before Henry continued. "I have his phone mom. I.. mom gave it to me after. She didn't see any harm in it. I saw the texts between you two. Most of them." Henry said, not wanting Regina to think he had read too much of their private texts. Only enough to get the gist there was something between Regina and Neal before he died."Henry I-" again Henry cut her off. "I know you're with Robin now." Regina shook her head. "No. It isn't that. I just.." Regina began to tear up, a rush of anger and sadness filling her. "The last time I spoke to your father I barely paid him any attention. I was so busy. I.. regret it. And well we never actually got to the L word." She said looking down.Henry now tilted his head in confusion. "What?" He asked. Sniffing back her tears Regina looked to Henry. "We never said love to each other. Hell.. we weren't even really a couple. We just.. were friends." She said reluctantly. Henry shook his head and pulled out Neal's phone, he still carried it with him. "No mom.. his last text to you. It must not have gone through. Before he went out to help Emma he sent you a text."Snatching the phone up Regina looked down at it, going to their last conversation. There was a text there that Regina had never seen, it must have gone unsent. Neal thought it had gone through. Regina's hand trembled slightly as she heard the simple words Neal had written.Going out to find my dad. Love you.Regina now had tears streaming down her cheeks. "God damn it.." she muttered. "How could he say it through a text.." she whispered. Henry only smiled sadly and moved closer to Regina wrapping an arm around her. Now it was her turn to lean into him, resting her head against his shoulder both sat there for a time. Crying, talking, mostly just remembering Neal.      template credit.  

Think he'll be excited?Getting up from the floor in front of the fireplace Regina simply rolled her eyes as she heard Neal's whistle. "Eyes on the photo albums." She said with a little laugh as she walked over to the record player in the room. There was nothing but the hiss of it now, the record that had been playing had stopped. So Regina was going to switch it out for another.Setting the album aside he was holding Neal got up, following Regina, glancing at her collection of records, most being from the 80s of course since the first curse had brought her to this land in 1983. "Lots of 80s music huh?" He asked. Regina only gave a slight smile. "I like 80s music." She said taking one of the records, Madonna."Hey I'm all for it. 80s had some of the best music." He said and watched as Regina removed the record and so carefully placed it down and set the needle to it. Once that was done and the music had begun playing Neal reached over taking Regina's hand. "Think he'll be excited? Henry I mean. When he finds out his mom and dad are.. well what exactly are we?" He asked. While neither of them could remember exactly what had happened between them during the last year they had both agreed they felt a pull to one another, an attraction. Something that couldn't be denied.Smiling Regina shook her head "I don't know what we are.. but the song is very fitting.." she whispered and leaned in to press a kiss to Neal's lips. Nesta remained seated, a book resting on her lap, while you observed the scene outside the window. Laughter reverberated throughout the estate, yet she remained motionless. Her thoughts drifted back to the moment when she was forcefully thrust into the cauldron, her mortality ripped away from her and discarded. Anger consumed her as she dwelled on it, but an even greater anger consumed her when she thought about what they had done to her sister, Elaine. The atrocities committed against Elaine and the state she was in now.Nesta had always protected Elaine, but after the horrifying incident with the cauldron, she felt like she had failed her sister. However, Nesta concealed these feelings from everyone. Discarding the book, she took a deep breath and rose to her feet, smoothing out her dress. Making her way towards the small library's exit, she retrieved the book from the floor and placed it neatly on the side table. Exiting the library and entering the hallway, Nesta continued to navigate through the corridors, turning one corner after another.Eventually, she arrived at a glass door leading to a balcony and stepped outside. The wind tousled her brown hair, but she paid it no mind. Closing her eyes, she allowed her mind to wander and drift through her memories. Each memory held something significant before fading into another, and then another. Opening her eyes once more, Nesta's gaze fell upon the town below, until her attention was captured by three young girls playing.They resembled sisters, running around and engaging in a game of tag. Tag, a game Nesta had never played with her own sisters, as their lives had been abruptly transformed from one of wealth to poverty, forcing them to reside in a cottage and struggle to survive. During that time, Feyre, her sister, bore the brunt of their responsibilities. However, Nesta and Feyre were never close, and Nesta acknowledged that it may have been her own doing.

2012Everyone’s gotta eat, Violet was standing in line waiting to pay for groceries. She shopped here all the damn time.But she was getting the feeling she was being watched.Tingles on the back of her neck. So the fresh fruit and bagels looked like they should come home with her.She picked up one of those magazines to page through, she didn’t give a damn about who was married, who was breaking up, but she was trying to look busy. In the middle of a checkout line? Maybe she was just over tired.There was a small tug on her arm, she looked down to see a little girl, a little redhead she was looking up with her big eyes, “My big sister wants your picture.” She pointed a hand over her shoulder. A group of girls was standing off to the side. They were looking anywhere but her but then she caught the team Jacob t shirt.F***ing Twilight.Her hand when to her hair and she cursed herself for letting a friend practice on her hair, curls.Was Bryce even in the last movie? She didn’t know because she hadn’t seen them, but she had been asked if she was Victora from twilight for three years now, the little girl was still holding her sleeve. She hated it when it was little kids that were used in this because she hated when she had to say no.“Come back here Tori!” The little girl pouted. Her food was still sitting on the conveyor belt. She shook her head and stepped out of line.“Team Jacob huh?” She winked, “I’ll forgive it.” Five minutes later, she was walking out of the store. She had scribbled a name on the magazine, not hers but then oh well. Did she even feel bad that she made them pay for it?Nope.

Thomas Wayne’s compassion was still guiding him, reminding Alfred that not everything was set in stone. “But, I also know first hand that, sometimes, it’s actually okay to accept when someone comes into your life and really sees you, warts and all. Someone who sees you at your absolute worst, and despite all of it, despite whatever you once were or what you done, they still see the heart of it all. They still see you, the essence of you. And that can make all the difference in the world, especially for people like us, Selina.”Alfred was unable to finish the thought. His head turned toward the house when both he and Selina heard Bruce making ready to venture back outside, then the butler gave her a quick nod in farewell. He didn’t want the boy to find them speaking together any more than she did. It was already bad enough the pair conspired to keep information from Bruce, all for what they considered the very best of intentions.“Right, up the wall with you then,” Alfred confirmed in a hasty whisper, glancing quickly over his shoulder to make sure Bruce hadn’t yet reappeared. “Tomorrow morning, at the precinct. We speak to Gordon together. Not a word to Master Bruce, not yet, is that clear?” A final nod given, Alfred turned his back to her and quickened his steps toward the mansion’s garden entrance.“On my way, Master B! I’ll get the kettle on.”*****“No, no, she said she’d be here, Detective. And it’s bloody important.” Alfred was visibly agitated when Harvey Bullock made a stream of excuses for why Jim Gordon couldn’t wait around for the likes of Selina Kyle. She was only a little late in the wider scheme of things, but late enough for Alfred to be wondering if she had stood him up or, worse yet, had decided to take the intel elsewhere. Turning back to Gordon, Alfred pleaded with his eyes, wanting to believe Selina would be true to her word, yet starting to think Gordon was correct to assume she would be a no-show.“If it’s so important that you expect me to wait for the appearance of a known petty thief who isn’t exactly the most reliable of contacts, Mr. Pennyworth, why don’t you just give the basic rundown to save us some time while we’re waiting?” Jim Gordon eyed the volatile butler with frustration, his patience fading. He knew all too well how Selina Kyle’s varying allegiances could foul up any investigation. What clearly puzzled him was why Alfred Pennyworth, of all people, was suddenly vouching for her.“Because she’s got the bloody evidence we need, that’s why!” Alfred realized too late how ridiculous it must have sounded, shame settling over him despite his valiant attempts to hide it. Had he been manipulated after all? Should he have taken that envelope and trusted his initial instinct about the girl, slapping her into the next county and banishing her from Bruce’s circle forever?“Evidence of what, Alfred?” Gordon stepped closer, studying the older man’s features with intent study. Alfred didn’t particularly care for being on the receiving end of an interrogation, and he especially didn’t care for how that slobbishly-dressed Bullock was giving him the Evil Eye. Finally lifting his eyes to meet Gordon’s, Alfred inhaled deeply, inwardly talking himself off the ledge. Calming himself required more self-discipline than anyone would ever know.“Five more minutes, Detective. That’s all I ask.”Gordon glanced at his watch before giving a nod to Bullock. Harvey threw up his hands, grumbling as he wandered off to give the two men some space.“Fine. Five more minutes, Alfred. And if she doesn’t show?”Alfred’s expression was as matter-of-fact as his voice in response. Magic is something that has always fascinated me. Conjuring something out of thin air, healing the wounded in seconds—these feats may seem mundane to some, but I can’t help but find myself in awe of even the simplest spells. Sometimes, as I pass Sorcerer's Sundries, I wonder if magic users ever take these gifts for granted, much like a cat might wonder if people take for granted the convenience of possessing opposable thumbs. This curiosity about magic, combined with a reluctance to fully embrace it, has been a consistent theme in my life since childhood.My first foray into magic occurred when I was nine years old. My father had been busy all day preparing to have the city officers over for an important dinner to discuss some new major infrastructure, blah blah blah. I was nine, don’t expect me to remember the details of some government project. I could have cared less about it. What I did care about was the feeling of being neglected after being dismissed by him several times over the course of the morning. Was he neglecting me? No. Did it still feel like the end of the world? Yes. However, I quickly realized that our estate staff were all preoccupied as well which meant I could get away with several things I normally couldn't.For me, that looked like reading my fairytale anthology behind some bushes in the garden for several hours and then walking myself through the city to the beach so I could collect some new shells. I recall the maid's disapproval upon discovering me windswept and sandy - something along the lines of, ‘that girl desperately needs a feminine influence’. (Which was something I didn’t and still don’t understand given that this was the same maid who had to press and relace all my dresses after I had an impromptu fashion show for myself that resulted in every article of clothing in my closet being unceremoniously thrown to the floor after I had tried it on. Had I a mother, I am sure her make-up bag and jewelry box would have fallen victim to my escapades as well.) Following a scolding and a futile attempt to tame my unruly hair, I was instructed to remain still until dinner, a concept foreign to my restless nature. Even now, as I read and write, I find solace in pacing, my study's carpet bearing witness to years of this habitual motion. At one point I put a rug over it, but the slight change in elevation made it uncomfortable under my feet and I couldn’t compose a single line until I removed it.I digress. Unable to find the patience required to remain in my room and fueled by an extreme dislike for being told what to do, especially by someone that wasn’t my father, I decided that I would try to get away with one more adventure before the dinner. I snuck out and into my father’s office. This was a place that was normally off limits. In fact, the door was locked a majority of the time. But in the chaos of preparation I noticed it had been left open and wanted to see just why he felt the need to keep me out. It was a treasure trove; the walls lined with books, a grand piano in the center of the room, a hoard of different colored inks, some of which I’m sure had magical properties. Yet, it was a single scroll on his desk that captivated my attention. A scroll of light.I had seen spell scrolls used before and was confident that I could easily mimic the steps I saw mages take to cast them. I looked it over for no more than a moment before the door to the office slammed open, the maid standing in the doorway scowling at me. Honestly, I didn’t mean to cast the spell. But I was startled as she grabbed my arm to pull me out of the room. Next thing I knew, the scroll had vanished and the maid was lit up like a firefly in early summer. Though initially amused by the spectacle, my amusement turned to dread as my father implored me to undo the spell, fearing the imminent arrival of our guests. Despite my attempts, the maid remained illuminated throughout the evening, serving drinks and food to our entertained visitors until it wore off and her skin returned to the dull dusty pallor it usually carried.  …Milil. It’s been ten years since you showed yourself to me and declared yourself my patron. I gave you my worship as you asked, you said nothing more. Suddenly I find myself with a gift I never asked for. But such is the narrative of my existence; perennially ungrateful for all that has been bestowed upon me. A cleric of Milil. Is this your effort to shield me? Or do you beckon me to confront those whose talons have pierced the tender flesh of our city? If you urge me to employ these abilities for good, I refuse. Where were they when my father writhed in agony, gasping for air on the floor of his study, choking on his own blood  while I stood by, impotent to aid him? Where were they when I resorted to seeking solace in the beds of strangers each week, driven by sheer terror of the consequences of refusal? And where were they when I did refuse an admirer's advances, only to endure the violation of my virtue at the edge of a blade, leaving me wounded in both body and soul?    I refuse. You and I both know that’s a lie… I refuse.
