Wren Cohen | Twenty-Five | Downtown | Tattoo Artist
Brief Bio: Wren grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere, Georgia. She was an only child and thrived under the love and care of her parents. Things were picture-perfect; until they weren't. Wren's father was a volunteer firefighter who died in a devastating house fire. After losing the heart of their family, Wren and her mother struggled to pick up the pieces. Her mother became a shell of herself, falling into a deep depression. She was only 15, and Wren struggled with her mental and emotional health but did all she could to help her mom. When her mom stopped going to work, Wren found a job. She started waitressing at a diner, making decent money for tips. This was where her talent for art was discovered. She would doodle on napkins and order slips. While her mother fell further into the darkness, Wren found peace at the diner. She picked up extra shifts and let school fall by the wayside.
One of her usuals even joked about someday getting one of her doodles tattoos on his leg. Wren was happy. It was her sixteenth birthday when she came home from the diner to find her mother unresponsive. She had taken all her antidepressants and had a severe seizure that her body couldn't handle. She was pronounced dead when the paramedics arrived. Wren was now alone, left to care for herself. She dropped out of high school and started spending all her time at the diner. She made friends with her regular customers, people much older than she was. By seventeen, she was borderline an alcoholic. Tequila is her drink of choice. Slowly, over time and with a lot of liquid courage, her doodles went from pen and paper to needle and skin. It was a side hustle, giving her the extra cash she needed to supply her thirst. Shortly after she turned twenty-one, her life changed drastically. She couldn't stay away from trauma for long, it seemed. She tried to move on but could feel herself spiraling out of control. She focused on doing tattoos, built up her portfolio, and when she was ready, she had excellent savings to start the life she wanted to live. When she saw White Fox had a position open for an artist, she applied on a whim. The fates were in her favor because she was immediately offered the spot. Tampa Bay would be where her happiness started.
