"Well I can not promise that I will be able to stay, at least for a very long time, but I will always do my best to come back home as soon as I am able too, Kiddo. I love and miss my whole family too much to stay too long elsewhere and I still love Hawaii." He tells his baby sister and shuffles her hair playfully.
He then nods and says, "Well, I am not about to go up against mom and dad on their decision but maybe while I am here, I can help you with some chores and show you that doing them to earn your cellphone can be fun." He tells her with a smile and hugs his baby sister back as he looks at their parents also.
"You know I have some good news, I will be going to Top Gun and what is even better is that you will soon become an Aunt to twins." He adds with a smile and hoping for his parent's sake that he can change the subject at least for now.
Ethan smiles and nods his head. "Me too, Mom. Me too." He then looks at Steve and gives him a hug as well. He swallows nervously. He walked into the living room with his dad and told him everything from him accepted to Top Gun and also about to become a dad himself of twins.
Steve beamed with pride and hugs his son. "Damn proud of you, Son and I just can not believe that I am going to become a grandpa at this age." He tells him and chuckles. They both turn when Alex and Stephanie come down from the stairs.
Ethan smiles and hugs his baby sister tight. "Hey there, Munchkin. Yeah, I am home but only for a short while." He tells her and then looks at her and then their parents. "Did you tell them why exactly you needed one, Kiddo?"
Ethan laughs and nods his head. He then nods his head and adds, "I am sure, Mom. All that you and Dad have done for me over the years, especially you, it is the least I can do for you and Dad." He tells his mom and gets up and gives his mom a hug. He arches an eyebrow hearing his baby sister yell at their dad. "Oh boy." He said with a slight chuckle. "I will go up and see her when she calms down. I do not think she even saw me, Mom and Ah, I can understand her frustration but also see yours and Dad's reasoning."
Steve sighs and walks in, he nods his head and then his eyes go wide and Steve smiles. "Son! You are home. " He says and goes over and gives his son a fatherly hug. "I did not realize you were here or I would have come home sooner with Stephanie today."
Ethan hugs his dad back and chuckles. "It was a surprise for you all. I have some news to tell you and Stephanie but it can wait a while."
Ethan grins and nods. "She does, does she?" He asks remembering how he had taught his baby sister how to make them a while ago before he went to school. "I know...I know but I want to celebrate with my family, Mom. Our family. I know Dad gets teased a lot about not paying when he is out with Danny and a couple of others, but this is on me. It is really okay." He said and chuckles.
He turns slightly red and smiles. "Thank you, Mom. That means a lot and um...Yeah..Mikayla and I are about to be Mom and Dad...and get this ...To twins." He tells her and waits for her reaction as he stands up and hugs his mom back. "I know also you are going to worry about both. me being a Naval Aviator and going to Top Gun but also being a Dad. try and not worry, Mom. I have money saved and was working a side job as a mechanic for fighter jets, so try and not to worry."
Ethan smiles at his mom and sits down at the kitchen table. "Do you have some of your famous chocolate chip cookies made, Mom?" He asks and then leans back in the chair. "I am glad she is at her friend's house and is having fun. I do miss her also though and I can not wait until we are all together. I would like to take us all out to eat. My treat." He tells his mom and coughs to clear his throat.
"You do not have to wait and I can always retell the announcement, Mom, when Dad and sis gets home." He tells her as he opens up his soda. He looks at her nervously and leans forward. "Well, first of all, I have been accepted at Top Gun Naval Aviation. I will be there for 5 weeks and graduate. Also, um...well, how would you feel about um...being a grandma?" He asked with a nervous grin.
Ethan smiles. "Thanks, Mom and I am so happy for you and Steve both. Actually, I would like to tell Steve about something as well. Do you know when he will be home too?" He asks as he reaches over and grabs his soda. "Thanks. Where is my baby sister? It doesn't matter how tall or big she gets, she will always be my baby sister." He asks curiously and has missed her also.
"Will it be alright if I stay for a couple of days. I have a week off before I go...before I go to um...Mikayla? She is in town as well and went to see her parents too." He tells her and then takes a drink of his soda.
Ethan smiles and hugs his Mom back tight and then lets her go slowly. "I know, Mom. I guess I just feel odd walking in unannounced." He tells her and walks in with her. "Um...A soda? Or water will be fine too." He tells her and walks into the kitchen as he looks around the McGarrett house. It has been a while since he was here. "Everything looks the same but great as always, Mom and you look great and glowing. Looks like being married to Steve was a great decision. I am so glad you found Steve. He saved us both, Mom." He tells her as he sits down at the kitchen table and swallows hard, wanting her to be the first to know about him now in Miramar, California for Top Gun and also that he is about to become a Dad of twins.
Ethan was able to get some leave as he and Mikayla went home to Hawaii for a few days before he actually starts TOP GUN. He was nervous about telling his mom and Dad, Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, about it and took a deep breath as he got out of his rental and walked up to his parent's house hoping his Mom and dad were there.
He went up the steps and swallowed hard as he knocked on the door, hoping him and Mikayla coming home would be a big surprise.
Steve smiles big and for the first time despite everything and trying to find his Mom, Doris, He is very happy.
"I am the one who should be asking that question, Beautiful. I am the lucky one." He tells her as he takes a step back from the stove for a few second and pulls her closer to him. He leans in and kisses her tenderly. "I love you so much. I hope you know this by now." He tells her with a smile and wink.
"Ewwww....You two..." Ethan said as he came in then walked to the den and turned on the television for it is on a Saturday morning.
