Heikki had a normal middle-class childhood growing up in London until about the age of nine when his mother and father began to fight. Not long after his tenth birthday, Heikki’s father walked out on them, leaving him and his mother alone.
They grew closer and healed together over the next few years, his mother getting remarried three years after his father had abandoned them. Heikki never had any problems with his stepfather, but they were never really close and never really connected, leaving Heikki without a strong father figure for the most part.
He dated in high school, girls, but nothing serious. He mostly kept to himself and typically had his nose either in school work or a book so not having a long term girlfriend at that point didn’t raise any flags for him.
Once in college Heikki did have a serious girlfriend, they had dated for about a year before things started to get rough and Heikki started to realise part of the problem was because he was gay. They ultimately broke because of this and the fact that she had started a program in America and he had no intention of leaving England, especially his mum. At this point he hadn’t come out to anyone, he and his girlfriend had conversations in the past but neither of them had put a label on him declaring him to be gay.
Now that he’s graduated, he lives in a small, one bedroom flat in London and writes with a small publishing company. He hasn’t published any of his own independent writings yet, though he does get a small percentage of sales from books where his poems are used as introductory quotes. He is working on completing his first full book of original works though.
Heikki enjoys the more “retro” and “vintage” type things. Big glasses and bell bottom jeans. He writes either in pencil or uses a typewriter. He enjoys coffee and does prefer tea. As far as foods he loves ramen and the pastries and sandwiches from the bakery a block from his flat.
Every other Thursday he volunteers at one of the local libraries and reads to the children. He’s quite good at it despite his otherwise shy demeanour.
Heikki is a closeted gay. He does not deny being gay and doesn’t necessarily hide it, but it’s not a part of him that he is open about or comfortable sharing with anyone really.
