Fingers dug deep into the core, light caresses of wires before her nail scraped metal coiling.
โThere you areโ, she whispered as she shifted in her seat.
Heat from the lamp above caused small beads of sweat form upon her pores. She took her other hand and swiped the backside of her wrist and arm over her forehead. A mix of white milk-like blood smeared across her skin. Kasey didnโt mind nor seem to care as her focus was purely on this android. Elbow deep, she maneuvered the wires before she could see his hand twitch some from nerves. He was functioning. She did it.
โI-I-I-I-I-I-โ, the droid tried to process as his eyes flickered to blink.
โRelax...stay calmโ, she whispered softly. โYou were just in an accident. You..โ, she had to think on what to say as to not startle him. โYou...diedโ, she sighed.
He started to move more of his limb almost in a flailing matter. It was scared.
โHey! Easy! Easy thereโ, she quickly snatched her hand from inside his guts so as to not get it broken off in his insides. โYouโre alive now!โ
He rose into a sitting position on the operating table, she took hold of his shoulders trying to relax him back to lie down.
โI brought you back...please relaxโ, she almost whined.
He only slowly turned to look at her. There was no emotion in his face at the moment but on the inside he was feeling everything. With a swift and sudden motion his arms were wrapped around her in a tight embrace. Kasey loved androids. She really did. However, there was some fear that lingered within her mind. The thought that she could be broken in a second. Snapped like a twig. The sheer strength they carry is no small feat. Her body stiff, frozen in time.
โTh-th-th-th-th-โ, he tried to speak.
Kasey soon moved her arms to wrap around him. Her palm softly at his back as she rubbed the synthetic skin in a little circular motion.
โYouโre welcomeโ, she whispered. โNow, weโre going to have to fix that voice box of yours but..Iโm sure we can get you back out there with a new identity as a working citizen.โ
He slowly let her go and relief washed over her being. Her attention turned towards her desk lined on the wall with maps and pictures of most synthetic beings structures. If a stranger walked in, one would think sheโs a psychopath with arms and other limbs that hung above her low ceiling. The room was dimly lit aside from the large radiating lamp that she used to see what sheโs doing as she operates. Yes, the room was small and could barely fit three people let alone all the junk she had in boxes that littered the whole room. It use to be a storage room on a lot full of them, but most rented them out as small apartments. She did tend to sleep on the floor or even the blue torn operating table, but aside from that she lived out in the streets with the rest of them.
The large garage like door would suddenly be pulled up to the loud sound of heavy rain. As a female and male android held another in their wake. Kasey quickly turned startled to see them before gesturing them inside.
โQuickly, quickly!โ, her voice in a hushed tone even though the rain would cover any noise they made.
The androids immediately pushed aside the other as they laid this one they found onto the table.
โHe needs help!โ, the woman said before quickly moving behind her friend.
โI can see thatโฆโ, Kasey sighed and looked him over.
It was hard to tell if that was his fluids or someone else's. He was wet, covered in mud and white blood which was a clear sign he was garbage to someone. Well, one man's trash is another man's gold and this one...was gold to her. Eyes scanning him up and down before she was baffled.
โThis model...heโs a newer one. Wow. I havenโt seen these ones...they really build themโฆโ, she swallowed some, โ...perfect.โ
The others all watched in some awe as they too were surprised. The three androids were of older models, they were considered obsolete for many years almost making them antiques. Works of art in her eyes. However, this one...no...he was something else. The city advertised him all over buildings and holograms of interviews with him as if he was the golden child of technology. Brand new.
โGoโ, she waved her hand.
โB-but what if..โ, one piped up worried sheโd get in trouble.
โIโll be fine. I justโฆโ, she looked at the three of them, โitโs cramped in here. Go next door and wait for me there. Okay?โ, she gave a sweet reassuring smile.
They all left to go to the neighboring housing for other androids where they waited for Kasey to check up on them. Her gaze shifted about to this man laying there. He seemed to be awake.
โDo you feel any pain anywhere?โ, she asked softly before adjusting her light above them and sliding a bar stool closer to sit.template credit.
