Why We Left:
Wesley Hale and April Margolis were raised in the pack from childbirth on, their parents being betas. For Wesley, he had many issues with his family – in particular his father – about his sexuality and his partying nature that goes against being raised to be a leader in the pack. He wanted to leave the place for good to escape the abusive relationship he had with his family.
For April, she always kind of wanted more in life than to just be a beta in a pack, despite that making her practically royalty. She wanted to go explore the world, go after her own dreams, and of course.... party like it's 1999. When she was little and found out she couldn't go out and be whoever she wanted to be, it made her rebel and shut down. She felt lied to and betrayed by the books she had read and movies she had seen. They always described women as being capable of anything, but she wasn't allowed to find out. When your life is mapped out for you at age six, it changes your view on how you see the world.
For both, in short, being a lycan and a beta was not what they necessarily wanted for their lives. But they were born into it so it's not like they had much of a choice. Still, the urge to run away grew stronger and stronger every year. But neither of them were strong enough to leave on their own. Also, neither one of them knew about the other having the actual urge to run away until one really drunken night they confessed this to each other while laying in a field butt naked after having ran around the woods as their wolves.
Once it was discovered that they both felt the same, they made a plan. They would pack their bags, leave the place with a stack full of cash, and never look back. Still, before they left they had one more person to think about. Ark. They had one last night of debauchery with Ark as their way of saying goodbye without telling him in actual words. They knew it would be too hard. They had secretly been packing over the few days in between and the next day, when Ark woke up... they were gone.
Since then, April and Wes moved around the country, trying their best to stay ahead of their packs watch and ever present hunt for them. They finally settled in in the Big City where they would be one of millions of people, able to blend in. They had stolen a large chunk of money before leaving and have been living off of it as well as doing small jobs here and there to ensure their cash flow never runs dry. It definitely helps that April has learned some magic and now knows how to rig an ATM machine to dispense money with a few simple hand gestures. They lived next door to each other but wanted ample privacy so they found two one-bedroom apartments to live in practically rent-free due to, once again, some glamouring on April's part.
April began working in the city with a gentleman named Aurelius. They are working together to solve the crimes that humans can't. Ones involving people with certain "gifts", we'll call them. Whether it is the victim or the attacker/murderer/etc., if it seems as though something non-human is involved, they help figure it out and get rid of the problem... one way or another. April didn't originally plan to become his partner, nor did he probably plan for her to become his, but she almost instantly felt herself being pulled in by the thought of helping others like herself.
