{MMM: Erica Sinclair}

Dear Lucas,

I’m sorry. I know you probably can’t remember the last time I said those words to you when mom didn’t make me, but this time I really mean it. You told me to stay behind… to make sure I kept a close eye on Max. You told me to stick together and not to wander off. You told me that as long as I didn’t run off, everything would be okay. I know I promised you that I would listen, but I lied. I had to.

You weren’t there - you didn’t see it. I didn’t feel like I had a choice. You guys all went off to do whatever it was you were trying to do, but we were alone. When they came, we had to do /something/ and no one was around to say otherwise. I know you just want to protect me and keep me safe, but there has to come a time when you accept that I’m just as much a part of this as you are. You and your friends have spent enough time trying to protect Hawkins and it’s time you got a little more help considering all the adults around here haven’t figured anything out. Maybe it was for the best that it was us and not you all. You’ve been through enough.

Tell Dustin that I put the extra batteries in his backpack. Make sure Mike knows that El would do anything for him and he’s the dumbest nerd if he doesn’t think so. Please ask Will to get a haircut and then maybe apologize to Joyce for saying it. Eddie too. Find a way to get Suzie her computer back - that’s important. Tell Robin that she’s way too cool for the rest of you idiots and she should find new friends. Steve and Nancy? They could use a little push.

As for you… I want you to know that everything I’ve done and said since we were little was because I just had fun messing with you. I know you’ve always thought that I was just your annoying little sister, but I had fun tagging along to bother you. Fighting with you has always been my favorite thing to do and you’ll always be my big brother.

I love you Lucas.

Sincerely,
-Erica

She doesn’t make promises very often, but when she does, she takes them very seriously.

{Guilt.}

{Guilt}
“There are two kinds of guilt: the kind that drowns you until you’re useless, and the kind that fires your soul to purpose”
On so many nights just like this one, Helena thrashed violently in bed, her arms and legs tangling in her sheets as her body whipped savagely from side to side. It was the only way her subconscious felt it was able to escape the horrifying dreams that haunted her over the last seven years. She couldn’t avoid it, couldn’t fight it, and couldn’t seem to shake the guilt that strangled her in her sleep.

She was always taken back to the same place. The very same starting point like resetting a video game level that you just couldn’t beat. Though her mind and her heart knew she’d lived this before and fought desperately to find the blonde boy with the pretty green eyes, her body seemed intent on following the motions she once did the first time she’d lived through the experience. When Helena caught her reflection in the metallic surface she passed, she looked into the eyes of her former self, 17 years-old and naive to the scarring events that lay ahead of her.

On Bruce’s instruction, Helena had followed a trail of clues that led through Gotham and pointed to Ace Chemicals. She could remember the excitement and thrill of finally being allowed out on her own case for the first time, though looking back, she wished that Batman had accompanied her. Maybe if he’d been there, things wouldn’t have happened the way that they did. Maybe if he’d been there, Ares would have lived.

He was everything alluring to a teenage girl and at the time, she thought she was in love with the blonde boy from the wrong side of the tracks. From his ripped jeans to the permanent scowl fixed on his face, Ares was the epitome of every father’s worst nightmare. Of course, this made her fall that much harder. He’d given Helena her first cigarette to try, accompanied her in trespassing on private property, and had even aided in her arrest a small handful of times. It was hard for her to see at the time that he was a terrible influence on her. The only thing she cared about was how cool he was. Looking back now, it was easy to identify the countless mistakes she made, especially that night.

The brunette crept through one of the dirty windows, unaware that she’d been followed. Mistake number one. Keeping low, she made her way through the building to follow the sounds of voices in the distance, her newly fabricated catsuit hugging her frame and aiding in her silence as she moved. She’d only worn it a few times before tonight and her excitement of looking official in her very own suit had her feeling cocky. Mistake number two. Helena stopped outside the doorway, her back pressing flush against the wall in an attempt to stay hidden in the shadows of the darkly lit warehouse while listening to the conversation inside the room.

The crunch of glass from behind her had Helena whipping around to see the familiar figure of Ares climbing through the window she’d come through only minutes earlier, her brown eyes going wide. His suspicions of where she was going when she gave him a half-assed excuse earlier as to why she couldn’t hangout had led him to follow her, tracking her straight from Wayne Manor all the way to Ace Chemicals.

“You can’t be here!”

Her voice escaped in a hissed whisper, her jaw clenching in frustration while she tried to shoo him out the window. Mistake number three. The noise the boy made when he came in through the window combined with her whisper had alerted the men in the next room of their presence, emerging armed with semi-automatic guns and beginning to open fire at the pair. Helena moved quickly, darting forward and grabbing Ares’ arm to tug him along and out of the way, nearly dragging him up the steel staircase to the lofted scaffolding that ran through the center of the warehouse.

The gunshots heard from behind them as they ran had Helena shoving him to the side and into the railing in hopes that any bullets fired would miss him. Even at 17 years-old, she was more than ready to sacrifice herself to save an innocent life. Spinning around, the teen charged the man out in front with his gun aimed at her, going low and knocking his legs out from underneath him. A grin spread across her face, completely satisfied with her maneuver to take down one of the assailants so easily. It was almost like everything Bruce had taught her was finally coming together and making her into her own hero without the Bat’s shadow looming over her. Mistake number four.

The sound of gunshots pulled her from her quick daydream, turning quickly to see the blood already pouring from Ares’ chest. The distant look on his face instantly shattered her heart, her body going into overdrive as she grabbed one of the guns and shoved the butt back into his face. It was the only thing she could do to buy herself more time, scrambling over to the teenage boy just in time to see his limp body topple over the metal railing and fall into the vat of green liquid below.

She had to get out of here. She was in over her head.

Her torso sprung up out of bed like a rocket, her skin coated in a thin layer of cold sweat. Frantic eyes looked around her dark bedroom, slowly identifying that it had all been a dream. Except that it wasn’t just a dream. It was a nightmare she’d lived through and would never forget. Not only was he the first innocent life that Helena had lost, but he was also in danger because of her. If she had been more careful, he may have gone on to live a full life. Instead she was careless, reckless, and cocky. Wrapping her arms around her knees to hug them close to her chest, she dipped her head down to rest her forehead against her knees, squeezing her eyes shut and trying to will away the sinking feeling of her 17 year-old self going home and telling Bruce about the events of her first case. It was no wonder everyone had such little confidence in her.

{Heartbreak.}

{Heartbreak}
“Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.”
It would have been easier for Helena to blame it on herself like she usually did. It would have been familiar and comfortable for her to accept that she’d screwed something else up yet again. But the truth was, she wasn’t really sure what it was that she’d done to trigger the downfall of her relationship. She’d been apprehensive to start one in the first place given her history with men and being close to people in general, but her heart won out over her head in what turned out to be a dramatic battle that she would have lost either way.

Pushing through the front door of her apartment, the brunette stepped inside the dimly lit space and reached out to slam the heavy door behind her, wanting so badly to shut everyone and everything out just as easily. Giving a toss to her phone and keys onto the kitchen counter, Helena breezed through the living room and into her bedroom, her frame collapsing down onto the bed as she curled her arms around the dark fabric of her blankets. It had been stupid of her to get so wrapped up in a man that she now was riddled with emotions she couldn’t even begin to process. She only wished she’d punched him square in the face before leaving.

How many times could she be expected to witness him flirt with others, men and women alike, before it got to her? Helena may have been trained by the Batman himself to be an unstoppable vigilante, but at the end of the day she was still just a woman. A woman with bruises and scars on her heart where she once thought she had only love.

Letting the war cry rip from her lips, she pushed herself up from the bed, storming over to the closet in a fiery rage as she tore open the door and hefted out the oversized briefcase that held her suit. If she wasn’t going to beat him into a bloody pulp for making her feel this way, she sure as hell was going to take her aggressions out on anyone that dared to cross the Huntress’ path tonight.

The moment she slipped into the black and purple suit, Helena’s heartbreak turned cold. Gone was the powerless woman about ready to weep over the loss of a man. In her place stood a masked vigilante that would stop at nothing to bring justice to those who ran rampant through the streets of Gotham.

{Disheartened.}

{Disheartened}
“I had learned early to assume something dark and lethal hidden at the heart of anything I loved. When I couldn't find it, I responded, bewildered and wary, in the only way I knew how: by planting it there myself.”
There, in her luxurious bedroom within the very large estate of Wayne Manor, sat a defeated 13-year-old Helena Wayne with her eyes cast down to the lavender bedspread beneath her. As her fingers picked at the soft blanket, her mind wandered over the last four hours she’d spent deep below where she currently sat: The Batcave.

At the start of the vigorous training session, she’d been over the moon to find out that no one else would be joining them. That she would have Bruce all to herself for four whole hours. Those moments were so few and far between that Helena always revelled in getting Bruce’s undivided attention. So easily she forgets how their previous encounters had left her feeling disappointed that she didn’t get the reassurance and appraisal she’d been so desperately working to achieve from her father. Helena spent countless hours training, studying, and learning in an attempt to see what could even resemble an expression that he was impressed with her performance on an otherwise stoic face. The emotional turmoil of beating herself up to be a better hero and daughter in Bruce’s eyes was exhausting.

She thought she’d followed every instruction he’d given her today. She thought she’d given it everything she had, and then some. And she thought she was doing exceptionally well during their session despite the level of difficulty he had her training at. There wasn’t a maneuver or technique that he hadn’t critiqued and left her feeling unsatisfactory. No amount of effort she made ever seemed to impress him or really catch much of his attention. All she’d ever wanted was to look up and see him smiling at her. At this point, she accepted minimal critiquing as a win and left every training session feeling defeated.

The sound of footsteps in the hallway outside her door had Helena springing up from the bed and racing across the room to flick the lock, securing the only privacy she felt she had. No one was allowed to see that something so seemingly simple had her close to tears. If Bruce or any of her brothers caught her crying, surely she’d be deemed even weaker than they already thought she was. With the two voices discussing dinner plans on the other side of the solid oak door, Helena leaned closer to listen in. Bruce didn’t even sound remotely concerned about her or the fact that she’d immediately gone to her room and closed the door after their training today. It was almost like her feelings went unnoticed when everything else in his life took precedence, which seemed to be just about always. The only time that Helena felt she was important to him was when she’d done something she shouldn’t have and he took precious time out of his day to scold her for it. Why did she expend so much time and energy trying to be everything he wanted her to be if he was just going to be disappointed regardless?

With a discouraged sigh, she trudged back to her bed still dressed for training with her long dark hair hanging from a messy ponytail. Collapsing onto the mattress, Helena buried her face into one of the many pillows that adorned her neatly made bed, the first hot tears escaping her chocolate brown eyes to begin soaking the fabric of the pillow. There was no way she could sit across the elegantly set table tonight and stare into the face of someone who made her feel like this time and time again. When Alfred came to fetch her for dinner, she’d just fake sick. She knew he’d never believe it, as he so often saw through the brave face she put on, but right now it just didn’t matter. Nothing mattered.

Headcanons.

Headcanons
“I had learned early to assume something dark and lethal hidden at the heart of anything I loved. When I couldn't find it, I responded, bewildered and wary, in the only way I knew how: by planting it there myself.”
1. What does their bedroom look like?
-Helena’s bedroom is minimalistic. Mostly monochromatic and dark, she spends such little time at home that her room is void of personal effects. Her entire apartment looks like a staged photo from a Modern Living magazine.

2. Do they have any daily rituals?
-She showers several times a day in an attempt to wash away the incessant feeling that she’s done something wrong.

3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
-She runs every single day. She also frequents two gyms: One for sparring and one for lifting weights. She’s at each gym several times a week.

4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
-She rarely cooks, if ever. She is a master of takeout.

5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
-While in the process of working [in any capacity], she’s a disaster. Once she’s finished with what she’s doing, Helena always cleans up to leave the space tidy.

6. Eating habits and sample daily menu
-Her absolute favorite food is French fries, and she will eat essentially anything you can find at a diner. She always has a box of Cheerios in the house, and generally avoids things that are too sweet.

7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time.
-Time is not wasted if it’s spent doing something you want to be doing, however unproductive. With that said, she favors her wine and movie nights with the girls.

8. Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging.
-She takes comfort in a nice glass of Cabernet and doesn’t believe there is anything wrong with having a few drinks.

9. Makeup?
-Generally light unless there is a special occasion. On a daily basis she’ll mostly just wear some eyeliner.

10. Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
-She pops painkillers to numb the oncoming aches and pains of vigilantism, but does not consider this to be a problem or an addiction.

11. Intellectual pursuits?
-Currently attending Law school with intent to master the system with or without a cape.

12. Favorite book genre?
-Mysteries.

13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
-Though she is heterosexual, she is not above appreciating the beauty of a woman. She is open and accepting of all orientations.

14. Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
-Many of her fingers are a bit crooked at the joints due to being broken so many times. Her jaw clicks from being dislocated. Her body is riddled with scars from cuts, bullet wounds, and burns.

15. Short term goal?
-Literally just to make it to see tomorrow.

16. Long term goal?
-Graduate from Law school, pass the Bar, and secure a position with the District Attorney.

17. Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress.
- Black. She is most comfortable in jeans, a tank top, her leather jacket, and a pair of combat boots.

18. Favorite beverage?
-Coffee. Black.

19. What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
-Everything and anything. She sees so much during the day that sleep escapes her at night, unable to turn her brain off. She is constantly replaying her greatest victories and defeats to overanalyze what she could have done better.

20. Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
-None, just countless injuries from being both a rambunctious child and one in vigorous training.

21. Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
-Turn-ons: Anyone she thinks her father wouldn’t like.
-Turn-offs: The safe choice.

22. Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?

23. How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?
-Not especially organized, just neat. She’s easily able to find things when she needs them.

24. Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
-In grade school, she was always particularly good in English and History. She’d always taken to learning from history and other people’s mistakes, so to speak. Currently, her biggest interest is in Law.

25.Where do they see themselves 5 years from today?
-Hopefully alive, but beginning her daytime career.

26. Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t work out?
-Failure has never been an option within the Wayne circle, so Helena has never considered any alternate life options for her future. Finishing her degree, starting her career, and continuing patrolling at night are the only things on her mind.

27. What is their biggest regret?
-Most days, being born.

28. Who do they see as their best friend?
-She considers Dinah Lance to be her best friend and favorite confidant.

29. Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
-Calm and collected. Quick to respond appropriately and rationally.

30. Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)
-An internal explosion of bottled feeling and emotional distancing. Comes out in the form of rage.

31. Most prized possession?
-An old 16mm film camera purchased from a thrift store when she was a teenager. It was the first thing she ever bought with her own money that she earned herself, not Bruce’s.

32. Thoughts on material possessions in general?
-Fleeting. Because they come so easily to her, most material objects have no real value to her.

33. Concept of home and family?
-Despite moving out, Wayne Manor will always be home. Though family is a touchy subject, it doesn’t end with blood. The Batfam are all her siblings and she treats them as such.

34. Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?)
-Generally does not share a lot about herself. She prefers to keep things, especially ones close to her heart, private.

35. What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?
-She is a lover of photography, but doesn’t believe she’s any good and therefore it’s seen as a hobby that won’t further her as a person.

36. What makes them feel guilty?
