duende,

Katniss Everdeen GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

/-- DUENDE – unusual power to attract or charm.

The blonde watched from her position pouring drinks behind the bar, as her ‘family’ amused themselves for the night. It was a pretty impressive turnout, every single person who took up residence at the Institute had managed to pull themselves away from their work, their missions and their errands to show up and support Simon at his gig. Even as a Shadowhunter now, rather than a mundane or a daylighter, he still found time to perform with his old classmates – she wasn’t even going to try and remember the band name, it changed that often – and it was good to see him enjoying his time. It was good to see everyone enjoying their night, even if she was having to work instead of being out their with them. She loved her day job and her night job though, so she wasn’t too disappointed.

Taking advantage of the current lack of customers she perched herself on top of the bar, her skin tight leather trousers sticking slightly to the wood as her eyes focused on her parabatai in the corner. The brunette was currently using her wiles to swindle more drinks out of the unsuspecting young werewolf that had recently joined Luke’s pack. The poor boy had no idea how much duende Aiden possessed.

The archer was not one to participate in actual relationships, preferring not to actually care too much about those she found herself in romantic entanglements in. For the most part, it was something the two girls had in common. Though this trait was for two completely different reasons. Lena steered clear of feelings because of Jordan’s death, though her recent entanglement with Tristan back in Los Angeles was slowly bringing the romantic that she used to be back. Aiden, on the other hand, was just uncomfortable with feelings in general. Even towards her friends. As far as she was aware, Lena was the only person the brunette had said she loved in years and that was because it was common knowledge that you loved your parabatai.

The blonde smirked slightly as the young wolf blushed at the attention he was receiving from her gorgeous, leggy platonic soulmate. Shaking her head slightly she turned as the reason from them being here originally emerged from the crowd, grinning at her, his dimples showing.

“Hey Lenny. Looking good, gurl.”

She snorted delicately as she slid back off the bar, heading straight for the vodka. She threw a wink over her shoulder as she reached for the bottle and pulled a new glass out from underneath the bar.

“Never gonna happen, Lovelace. Though you did good tonight, so I might consider it when you’re famous.” Her shoulders shrugged slightly as she poured a vigorous amount of alcohol into the glass before topping it up with his usual amount of coke. Sliding it across the bar, she shook her head once more as she noticed her parabatai behind his head wrapping her arms around the muscular wolf’s neck.

Simon followed her gaze and let out a loud bark of laughter as he noticed what had caught her attention. “How many drinks d’ya think she’s going to get out of him tonight?”

Turning back to the younger man in front of her she pursed her lips slightly to stop her own laughter from leaking out. “She’s already managed two, I’m expecting another three by the end of the night.”

The brunette downed half of his drink before leaning his elbows on the bar, still looking in her parabatai’s direction. “Aiden Ashdown, the wolf charmer.”

Finally letting her laughter burst out she pushed at his shoulder before pulling herself back on to the bar top. “I was just going to say man in general but, yeah.” They laughed together for a while before he downed the last of his drink and sliding the glass back towards her.

He kissed her lightly on the cheek before pushing away from the bar, clearly indicating his return to the rest of the group. “Have fun being your parabatai’s keeper.”

She shook her head at his idiocy, before calling after him as he walked away. “Don’t have too much fun with my baby sister.” Turning his head back towards her, she noticed the obvious embarrassment on his face as a bright blush spread across his cheeks and down his neck.

She let the classic Azaria smirk cross her face as she turned away from his retreating form and let her gaze land on her parabatai’s figure once more. The wolf now basically wrapped around the young archer’s little finger.

She shook her head as she went to pour herself a drink. These men would never learn.

brontide,

man out of time — Here you'll find 230 small/medium textless HQ ...

/-- BRONTIDE – the low rumbling of distant thunder.

The rain pattered over head as she found herself once again occupying a space inside the Paradiso Mansion. Over the past few weeks being in Italy she had found a sense of peace, and weirdly enough belonging, being in the place that had finally given her some clues about her past. It wasn’t uncommon now to find her sat in the rocking chair that she had come across on her first trip there.

Running her fingers over the word’s on the pages in front of her she smiled softly down at her mother’s handwriting. Her brain bringing forth flashes of memories – Alethia wrapping her arms around her only daughter, steadily rocking her to sleep after a nightmare, laughing at the young girl whenever she stared out of the window in awe at the thunder and lightening rolling across the sky. Ever since she had first started reading the diary she had started remembering moments that her mind had obviously been blocking since she lost both of her parent’s. Individual memories coming back and random and she had now noticed how much her mother had actually cared.

It brought a feeling of happiness that had been missing for the past decade.

Lifting her gaze, she let it drift to the window the flashes of lightening shining in her golden eyes. The Lightwood’s had always found her fascination with storms odd and confusing. But her mother had just laughed and called her ‘her little Bronte’. She had forgotten that that was the reason why she always loved Greek Mythology. Her mother had influenced her life even more than she had realised.
The sound of thunder rolled over head as she continued to stare out at the rain, a sense of calm washing over her even more. Unlike most people storms always made her feel better, she found herself more open to knowledge when the heavens opened up. Isabelle was terrified of storms, and Jace hated them but Lena loved to be caught out in them.

“Back again.”

The familiar voice crossed over the room, only slightly louder than the thunder rumbling overhead. She would have jumped in shock, if it hadn’t reminded her of how they’d first met three weeks ago.

Her smile softened her features as she turned towards the fae that she knew towered over her, whether she was sitting or standing. His words amusing to her, she had found what she was looking for here and though she had looked around repeatedly since then she hadn’t found anything more. Garrett on the other hand had gleaned no new information in his search of the manor.

“Is that surprising?”

He stepped into the room, crossing towards her and leaning back against the window covered in pouring rain. They didn’t really know each other, but yet it felt like they did. “I feel like it should be. But no, it doesn’t surprise me. You find peace here. Especially today.”

She shook her head in amusement, it didn’t surprise her how easily he had read her. He did the same thing the day they met. It had surprised her then. Now she just felt like it was normal for him to read other people.

“I love a good storm. “

apodyopsis

YOLO ⇨ FACECLAIMS - [:14] DOMINIC SHERWOOD - Wattpad

/-- apodyopsis – the act of mentally undressing someone with your eyes.

The blonde Shadowhunter let out a sigh of relief as she finally had a chance to breathe. She had been rushing around for the past hour non-stop taking and making drinks orders in the unusually packed bar. ‘Wings’ wasn’t the quietest bar, in fact as far as she was aware it was one of the most popular of the downworlder bars in the city, but it had been a while since she had seen it this busy. Pouring herself a vodka and lemonade, she leant back against the wood behind her, closing her eyes and taking the chance to let her racing pulse settle. Sometimes working here was more exhausting than fighting demons.

Shaking herself slightly she placed her drink down underneath the bar as a new customer made her way towards her, a genuine smile on her lips. Smiling slightly back she took the fae’s order and turned away to pour the mystical drink. Focusing as hard as she could on the recipe. One wrong measurement and she could turn the pour girl into a rodent. She didn’t want to think about the repercussions of turning one of the Fae Folk into a rat for an indeterminate amount of time.

“Isn’t he gorgeous?”

The voice coming from behind her brought her back to reality as she turned back with the finished drink and placed it in front of the crimson haired beauty.

“Hmm?” Letting her gaze follow the fae’s, she snorted almost indelicately at the focal point. Shrugging her shoulders slightly, she grabbed a cloth from behind her to wipe down the ridiculously sticky wood. “I suppose, if you like that sort of thing.”

The redhead raised a brow at her in an almost incredulous manner. “You don’t think he’s basically a human Adonis?”

Shaking her head in amusement she looked back towards the Shadowhunter in question. His blonde hair falling ‘naturally’ over his eyes as he aimed a dart at the target. Like he didn’t spend a good hour making his hair perfect every morning. She stared at him with a critical eye, trying to picture exactly where her current customer was coming from, but she just couldn’t see it. She had known the guy way too long to see him any sort of attractive light.

Turning back to the fae, she stifled a laugh at the expression on her face. Clearly she was trying to undress him in her mind. And yeah, sure the man had well-developed muscles – it wasn’t hard to notice when he trained topless – but she just couldn’t picture him in that way. Just thinking about it almost made her feel sick.

She shook her head in disgust. “No, I definitely don’t.”

“Hey, Azaria.”

She swivelled towards the voice, the man in question creeping up without them noticing. The fae blushed almost a fuschia colour as he sent a wink in her direction before turning back to Lena.

“Hey little brother.”

Automatically she moved to grab his usual drink before the fae’s next comment was voiced.

“Wait… you two are related?”

The two blondes looked at each other in amusement before offering a resounding ‘No’ in unison.

Jace shrugged slightly as he grabbed both bottles that Lena had put out for him. “We might as well be, though.”

She snorted delicately as she stretched over the bar to ruffle a hand through his hair. “He only speaks the truth.”

She pulled away as a look of annoyance spread over his face, his own hand running through his locks to try and fix the mess she had created. “I hate you, sis.”

“Right back at you, Herondale.”

He winked once more before making his way back over to his companion. Shaking her head she turned back to her customer whose eyes were trailing after Jace, a look of shock and awe present on her face.

“So that’s why you don’t think he’s hot?”

She shrugged once more, not even bothering to answer such an obviously stupid question. What sort of person finds their siblings attractive, adoptive or not?

“Do you think…”

Stopping the fae mid-question, she let a harsh sigh of exasperation leave her throat as she poured herself another drink and the redhead a shot of tequila on the house.

“Look honey, you’re probably a really nice person but I wouldn’t even bother.” She slid the shot glass towards her, downing one herself before indicating in her direction with her eyes. “He has a boyfriend.”

The redhead turned to look at the scene and lowered her head dejectedly at the sight of Jace trying to teach Simon how to play darts and failing miserably. The blonde pursed her lips before continuing as delicately as she could. “You’d never get between them, even if you wanted to.”

'We can do anything, we could be heroes, me and you.'

She sighed softly in delight as she stretched her body out over the towel that she had spread over the heated sand. It had been many years since she had been back to Seville and she was happy to say that though it held some bad memories she still loved the place as much as she always had when she was younger.

Though she had been in Alicante when she lost her parents Lena had originally grown up in Seville, and only spent a few weeks a year in Idris. Her place of birth had always been her favourite place on earth, helping her feel the peace that she felt so little of in her life now that she lived in New York. The city that never sleeps was aptly named and as much as she liked living with the Lightwoods the calmness of her first home would always be a place that she revered greatly.

Turning her head to the side, she smiled happily at her companion. Lena had originally been wary about joining Elise on her trip to Seville. It was her first time returning to her home since she had moved to New York and she was as apprehensive about it as she was about returning to Idris the first time. But her eldest friend had persuaded her to put on a brave face and get over her issues.

So, she had.

She was glad she had, it had been the best decision she had made since she had decided to stop working as an envoy for the clave.

"I told you it'd make you feel better."

Shaking her head to clear her thoughts she grinned at the leggy brunette who was resting peacefully next to her as she showed off more skin than she ever really did.

"I know, Leli. You're right. You always are."

"Damn straight I am, Ley."

Lena laughed softly as she stretched out her arms before folding them under her head. "You know this whole beach thing, the peace and the waves? I'm gonna miss this."

Closing her eyes, she let the smell of salt water wash over her as her best friend's voice filled her ears. "I know what you mean, New York is not like this."

"I'd hope not, can you imagine the sea in the middle of all that traffic."

She let a smirk cross her face as she made that comment. Elise may hate her constant use of sarcasm - but Lena couldn't help it, she just loved to rile up the genius next to her. Technically, she loved to rile up every-body, but it was just so fun irritating the only Nightshade in her life.

"Seriously Ley, you know that's not what I meant."

She heard the irritated sigh that left her friends throat and she grinned as she flipped herself over onto her front, using her elbows to support her head. "Oh, I know. But it's just so easy sweetie."

"You're a bitch, you know that right?"

She let her eyes rest on the person she had known the longest in this world, her brown curls framing her face and a look of irritation in her chocolate eyes.

Turning her head to rest on her crossed arms she closed her eyes and proceeded to once again bask in the sun's glow. "I know, but you love me anyway."

'I want to hide the truth, I want to shelter you.'

"Okay, so you've got the movies and I've got the popcorn."

The blonde looked up from her position in the centre of her bed with a grimace on her face. She loved her 'baby sister' but the girl couldn't even cook pasta without almost setting fire to the entire kitchen. As skilled and talented as she was, cooking was not her forte. One of the reasons Lena did most of the cooking when Maryse wasn't around.

"You didn't make it did you?"

The brunette glared down at her, before raising an eyebrow at her adopted sister. "It's literally two minutes in the microwave."

Spinning her legs around she climbed up from the position she had been in for the past twenty minutes and crossed her legs underneath her. She focused her stare on the young Lightwood, knowing that as brave as the young girl was she always buckled at one particular look Lena had. "That didn't answer my question Isabelle, did you make it?"

She watched as her sister struggled to come up with a reply before she sighed and climbed onto the bed with her. "No, I stole it from Magnus and Alec."

Nodding at the young brunette she moved over on the bed so that Izzy would have enough room to lay next to her.  "Good, because I'm not touching anything that you've tried to cook."

"Sistra, I'm really not that bad."

"Do you not remember giving Alec and Jace food poisoning when you lied to them about ordering in when in fact you had attempted to make a curry."

"You didn't get food poisoning." She pointed out to her older sister.

"I didn't eat the curry. Sis I love you, and because I love you it is my duty to tell you that I will never eat anything you cook." Tilting her head slightly to look at Izzy, she smiled softly before continuing. "Because you can't cook anything that isn't inedible swill."

Reaching over the side of the bed to grab the remote to press play on the first film they had chosen that morning. Weekly sister movie night was, most of the time, Lena's favourite night of the week. Occasionally it became girls' night and the two sisters ended up being overrun by Serena, Aiden and Elise. That was a hassle, trying to fit five adult women on one king size bed was a struggle they had repeated many times. One of these days she was going to have to buy a bigger bed.

She turned her had back to Isabelle when she noticed the silence that had overtaken them. Pushing her slightly on the shoulder she watched as the younger girl frowned.

"I thought the guys were always joking."

She let out a soft sigh before wrapping her arm around her sister's shoulder. "Isabelle Sophia Lightwood, you have a lot of skills. You're one of the best shadowhunters this world has known, you have a particular way with the guys and you are great with kids. You just can't cook. And that's not necessarily a bad thing." Squeezing her shoulder, she continued rambling. "Not everyone can cook, and yeah none of your food is edible, but there's probably someone out there who's an even worse cook than you."

"You think so?"

"I think that the Isabelle Lightwood I have known for the better part of a decade would never give up just because she failed. And if you really want to learn how to make something that people might eat than I will give you a few pointers."

The only Lightwood daughter laughed at her sister's words. "I may take you up on that, but how about we just watch the film for now."

"Now there's something I can get down with."

'You're my survival, you're my living proof, my love is alive and not dead.'

The young knife wielder stared blankly at the young archer in front of her. It wasn't often that the Institute in New York got visitors, weirdly enough the ones that they did get, for the most part, ended up being permanent fixtures in their home. She was the perfect example of it. She had visited once and then two months later she had ended up being forced to move in. She had been there ever since.

It had been three years since then. The Lightwoods had become her family, the last living Wayland her best friend and she had pushed herself to the point that she was even more skilled than Jace and now?

Now there was another new addition that was probably going to flip the Institute on it's head. She hated change and she had been through way too much in her short life. Here was another one stood right in front of her. Change was the devil, and the devil's name was...

"Aiden Ashdown."

She widened her eyes and shook the thoughts out of her head. "I'm sorry, what."

The brunette in front of her smiled softly and held out a hand towards her. "I'm Aiden Ashdown."

Eyeing the hand warily, she placed her hand in the other girls and pursed her lips. "Lena Azaria."

-------------------------------------

Lena leant precariously on the wall behind her, her arms crossed over her chest and a frown marring her face. She was late. Again. She didn't know what it was about the woman, but she was always late. Lena wasn't a very patient woman most of the time but when it came to Aiden she had to be. As much as she would love to get annoyed with the brunette she would be the one person that always had to be there for her. Falling out with the archer over her tardiness wasn't really in the cards for the older blonde.

Cracking her neck, she stepped away from the wall she had been leaning on for the better part of half an hour as the opposite wall began to shine blue. Finally. She had known the youngest Ashdown for almost seven years now, and not once in seven years had she been anything but late.

She didn't how it was possible for someone as dedicated to her work as Aiden to be constantly late but there it was. God, she really was the devil.

She watched as the leggy brunette stepped through the portal she assumed Magnus had created while he spent time at the London Institute, and walked further towards her companion.

"ARIA!" She gasped in shock as she was surrounding by a giant vat of brown hair as the younger girl wrapped her arms around her neck and squeezed harder than Isabelle on a normal day. The two girls spent hardly any time together and yet they had so much in common that occasionally Lena thought they could have been twins separated at birth.

Wrapping her hands around the archer's arms she pushed her away slightly with a grimace marring her soft features. "Some people actually need to breathe Ash, not all of us have an unlimited supply of air that we use to scream at the top of our lungs."

Aiden let out a soft peal of laughter before wrapping her arm around the taller blonde's shoulder, "Oh Aria, you always act as if you don't love me," she nudged her hip towards Lena's before continuing. "When we both know that you do."

Lena sighed softly before she pulled Aiden by the arm to make her walk back to the Institute. "Why did I ever agree to be your parabatai? Now I'm stuck with you for life."

The younger brunette laughed with glee once again, "Probably because you knew no-one else wanted to be stuck with you."

Shaking her head, the two girls continued their way back to the institute arm in arm. Aiden Ashdown may have been the devil but she was Lena Azaria's devil, and the young blonde wouldn't have it any other way.

serena herondale,

If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see, I'll be the light to guide you.

"Okay, now keep your fists up and your legs slightly apart."

"You know you've said that four times already today."

"And I'll say it another four times until you actually do what I'm telling you to do."

Stepping away from the young blonde, Lena moved to lean back against the net ropes hanging down the far wall of the training room. Her favourite student had come a long way since she had arrived at the Institute knowing nothing about the Shadow World. However just because she had learnt a lot didn't mean Serena Herondale wasn't prone to forgetfulness when it came to combat safety.

For all Lena knew it probably ran in the Herondale family. Jace had been flaunting safety procedures since she herself had arrived in New York almost a decade earlier. Until recently he had been the only living Herondale so they hadn't known much about his family until Serena had turned up on their doorstep a few months ago.

Though more of an optimist than her male counterpart, they shared many that traits that most people found... well, the only word was annoying. The constant use of sarcasm that Lena and the Lightwoods had gotten used to from living with Jace, did not go over well with the rest of the Clave. And though it did not bother Lena in the slightest, it was obvious that Serena's previous life in the mundane world was a problem for some of the other members.

Sighing quietly, she crossed her arms over her chest and pursed her lips slightly as she watched the younger Herondale's lithe movements. "Always keep your back straight unless moving into a new attack or defensive position. If a demon attacks from behind it's easier to snap your spine in half if you're not prepared." A small smirk crossed her face as the blonde on the other side of the room immediately straightened her stance. She may take after her cousin in some aspects but at least she listened to what the last living Azaria told her to do.

Most of the time.

She raised an eyebrow at the loud thud that indicated the female Herondale had fallen flat on her back onto the padded floor. Crossing back to the other side of the room, she knelt down next to the young fighter, who at times reminded the brunette of herself.

"You okay?"

"How do I keep being beaten by a dummy that can't even move?"

"I wouldn't worry about it querida, you should have seen the amount of times that Clarissa ended up on her back during her first few months of training. Isabelle did not go easy on her."

The blonde huffed out a breath before replying. "Well you don't go easy on me either."

Letting out a short laugh of delight, she lifted Serena back up onto her feet. "If I went easy on you in six months' time you would still be flat on your back. By the time we're through you'll even be a better fighter than the infamous Jace Herondale."

She smiled softly as the younger woman furrowed her brows. "It doesn't seem like I'll ever be as good as Jace."

"Cario, my father wasn't as overbearing as Jace's father but if I can kick Jace's ass, then one day you can too. Don't rush it. Most of us have been training in different styles of fighting since before we hit double digits. You have a lot to catch up on. It's going to take time."

She tilted her head slightly to the side and watched as Serena took in her words. Moving towards the door she packed up what little gear she had brought with her and lent against the door-frame. Serena following closely behind her. They had been in the same room for almost five hours now and the blonde behind her had been soaked in sweat for at least three of those. Break time was definitely upon them.

"You know, you're a lot nicer than you let people believe."

Spinning around on her heel, her hair flipping behind her as she moved, she let a stern expression cross her face. "You express that opinion to anyone and this time next week all they'll find of you will be your stele."

And with a final parting wink, she turned away from the frightened girl and departed from the room, a large smile forming on her face. It was so easy to scare the younger shadowhunters these days.

11/21/2017 10:31 PM

gobble it up,

The young brunette looked up at the looming church in front of her. Growing up between Alicante and Seville, she had seen her fair share of churches. Some bigger than this one, some older than this one, but there was just something about this majestic, ornate cathedral that brought about an element of fear inside of her.

She had never been in this city before, she'd never even been in this country before and here she was suddenly moving here. Out of her comfort zone, into a giant church surrounded by people she had never met in her life. She had lost everyone she had ever known, everyone she loved and now she was being forced into a new family.

An entire family. Not just parents, but from what the Inquisitor had told her before pushing her through the portal at the Gard, also four children.

This was just going to be a disaster.

"Lena?"

Turning her head towards the door she noticed a Latina woman making her way towards her. She assumed this was the mother.

"I'm..."

"Maryse Lightwood. My new mother."

The taller woman looked down at her with a soft concern filled smile. "I'm your guardian because..."

"My mother was murdered, a year later my father committed suicide and you already have a penchant for taking in stray children."

Maryse's eyes widened slightly in shock before a small smirk moved at her lips. "Well, you're definitely going to fit right in here. Come on in."

And she turned, not waiting for the twelve-year-old Spaniard to follow her.

--------------

"You must be Lena."

The golden-skinned pre-teen looked up from the book she had been trying to focus on for the past hour, to see a blonde-haired boy, possibly younger than her, who was most definitely not Maryse's son. It was a physical impossibility for her to have a child so blonde and so pale.

She raised an eyebrow at the boy making his way towards her. "I must be."

She turned back to the book and continued to peruse the novel. She had already read it before meaning she didn't actually have to pay attention to the words on the page in front of her, but she wasn't really interested in the conversation that was about to take place.

"I'm Jace Wayland."

She let out a sigh and closed the book with a slam. "I know." Rising from her seat she made her way down the hall away from him, trying to remember the direction the room Maryse had given her was in.

"That's rude."

"So, sue me." She called over her shoulder, continuing her search and turning a corner leading to another corridor that looked exactly like the one she had just left with even more doors. She sighed internally, this was going to take a while.

"You're never going to find your room if you just keep wandering around."

"What I do is none of your concern."

"It is when I try to sleep and all I hear is you wandering around the building lost because you refused to accept the help you're being offered."

Stopping in her tracks, she sighed and crossed her arms over her chest. Spinning around on her heels she turned to face him, raising a slender brow at the smirk tugging at his lips. She pursed her lips slightly and glared at him with a look of pure disdain and loathing.

"Okay, how the hell do I find my room?"

"Ask Church."

Tilting her head to the left she looked at him with pure bewilderment, "You want me to ask the building where my bedroom is?"

"I want you to ask the big blue cat where your bedroom is."

She watched as he nodded his head, indicating towards her feet, where she noticed for the first time a fluffy Persian weaving its way in and out of her legs. Bending down slightly she stroked softly at the fur of the blue cat. She looked back up at Jace a soft smile trying to let itself free across her face. "You named your cat Church?"

"Nope. He's not mine, been here longer than I have."

She watched as he made his way towards her and bent down himself, his hand joined hers as they stroked the cats soft fur. She watched as he spoke to the cat in a reverent sort of tone. "Okay, Church. Show us to Azaria's room." The cat looked at both of them almost reproachfully before turning away from them and trotting off down the opposite corridor to the one she had been heading down.

Straightening up they both followed behind at a safe distance. "Church knows everything about this place. Ever need to find a room or someone that's here just ask him, he'll lead you right to them."

Lena fidgeted slightly at the blonde's side, struggling to speak two simple words. "Thank you."

He looked over at her, a soft rare smile gracing his lips as they came to a stop where the cat had stopped. She assumed it was her bedroom if the cat really was as smart as he was made out to be. "It gets easier you know, losing a parent."

She tilted her head slightly, so she could look up at him - a tear threatening to fall from her eye. "I lost my mum a year ago yesterday. I know how hard it is losing a parent already. I just lost my final one." She sniffed slightly as the tears fell freely down her cheeks.

She let out a sob as her legs almost collapsed her under and she slid to the floor the weight of her grief forcing her down. She felt as his arms wrapped around her, pulling her to his chest as the tears continued to fall. And she heard as he whispered two soft words into her hair over and over again.

"I know."

romancing the storyline,

Date Night. Lena seriously hated date night.

Collapsing onto her bed, she crossed her arms under her head and focused her eyes on the silver swirls that occupied her ceiling. She had put them there six months after she had moved to New York (eight years ago) and realised she was never leaving. It had been Izzy's idea, to just live with it and make it as comfortable as possible. It was why she had ended up painting her entire room turquoise and covering that with silver swirls. Her ceiling on the other hand had been painted black and with the silver swirls it kind of looked like a mashed-up sky at night.

Pulling herself back into the moment, she let out a deep sigh. Friday night wasn't always date night. But tonight was different, everybody had a date. Everybody except Lena.

She didn't usually mind, she hadn't dated since Jordan and that didn't really bother her. She had loved, she had lost, and she never really intended on loving again. But nights like this made her think that she was missing out.

Jace and Clary had headed out earlier on in the evening. The sarcastic blonde had enlisted the resident Spaniard to help plan something special for his girlfriend and she had spent a good few hours already today dragging the young artist to shop after shop to distract her. She had obviously known something was wrong. Clary may have been her best friend's girlfriend, but the two girls had never really hung out. Lena preferred to spend her time while she was in New York either with her parabatai or with Izzy and no matter how nice Clary was she had never really needed someone new in her life. She was happy for Jace, that didn't mean she had to spend twenty-four/seven sucking up to his tiny ass girlfriend.

Lena turned herself slightly in bed and managed to manoeuvre herself under her duvet before continuing with her thoughts.

As planned as Jace and Clary's date was, Alec's and Magnus' had been anything but. Magnus had shown up not even an hour ago to whisk Alec off to a spontaneous date in Sicily. She was also happy for her brother, but Magnus was now the reason Lena was spending the evening curled up in her duvet. Magnus was an amazing guy, or warlock, he was glittery, fun, handsome and he actually cared about Alec, but he had swooped in and ruined Lena and Alec's annual brother/side fun night.

She knew they could just reschedule but that wasn't really the point.

And Izzy? Well her 'baby sister' had disappeared off for the evening with her flavour of the month. That much wasn't new. Izzy was always out on a Friday evening, one of the many reasons the two girls made plans on Wednesday's instead. Izzy - she wasn't angry with. She could never be angry with Isabelle, and she knew that if she called the young Lightwood would drop everything she was doing, come home and spend the evening wrapped up with her big sister watching chick flicks and pigging out on ice cream.

But she would never do that, after everything that happened recently, she deserved to have fun.

Turning to lay on her front, she shoved her face into her pillow and let out a quiet scream of frustration.

She didn't know why this was affecting her so much, she had never been bothered before. She hadn't dated in two years - not since Jordan had died - and she had never felt like she needed to. It had been hard for her after Jordan's death and she had just pushed herself further into her work and training.

But now, now she was the oldest one in the institute and she just felt like a lonely old spinster. Her family all out on dates, her parabatai in London trying to sort out her brother's crap and probably on a date as well. And here she was, the beautiful (according to Izzy) Latina, wrapped up in her duvet, cuddled up to her childhood teddy on a Friday night sulking about being alone.

She had to admit it... date night sucks.
