Stars, featuring Lochness
Gabrielle could name most of the stars in the sky. She could rattle off constellation names as easy as reciting family members, and got overly excited when a shooting star soared across the sky. The day Dennis told her that she could name a star after a loved one, she was ecstatic and went about doing it for everyone in her family and for her friends (birthdays, Christmases or just because). For Nerissa, Gabrielle named two stars. The first after Nerissa, given to her for her birthday, the second she named after Zachariah, the cousin Gabrielle would never know and the brother loved dearly by Nerissa. At first, Gabrielle thought perhaps she had overstepped the mark with the gift, and hoped that it wouldn’t ruin the newly formed family relationship between her and Nerissa. After weeks of changing her mind, Gabrielle sent the gift, attaching a note with the star certificate: One more star in the sky to shine bright.
