Scene rewrite Category: Stories
// Based off of this gif and the following occurrences in this scene //
To say the scene was gruesome would be an understatement. A body found in the woods decapitated, the head missing. This was the fact that baffled the young constable. Head removal was used so that a body could not be identified, however, in such a small town everyone would know instantly who it was, making the killer's motives unclear. What made matters worse is that the body was moved, and even if he searched for the original spot it was found the scene was undoubtedly tainted by now and would serve no use to him.
Pulling out his array of powders, he began searching for the right one, the labels hard to read due to the small writing on them. He finally found the right one and pulled it out of its place. Opening it, he sprinkled a little bit at what remained of the neck. He seemed surprised to get a reaction. "Interesting." He mumbled. The concerned townsfolk behind him looked confused.
"Pray do tell Constable, what seems to be the matter?" One asked. Ichabod stood.
"Based on the reaction, the sword that cut this man's head off must have been hotter than is possible. Furthermore, the killer seems trained with a sword and strong, as the cut is so clean they must have only taken one swing. What is most puzzling is the fact of the state of the body. Head removals usually happen in cases so that we can not identify the victim, prohibiting the police force from finding links to the killer from the victim. However, we know this is Jonathan Masbath. It would be obvious, given how small this town is, so why dispose of the head?" Ichabod began pacing as he spoke. He knew they did not move the body far from its original spot, perhaps if he could find it he would find clues.
He stumbled upon it easily enough, the blood-soaked leaves fairly noticeable. He began looking around, knowing even the smallest of clues could help the case. That was when he found hoofprints. They belonged to a large horse, and as he followed the path it seemed that the killer decapitated him, turned his horse around, picked up the head, and fled into the heart of the woods, were Ichabod currently dare not tread. He returned from the body and stared at it, trying to piece together what had happened. He knew Jonathan Masbath was in a small guard tower that night, vowing to protect the town and his son from the Headless Horseman, who the villagers thought was the killer. It was outlandish to Ichabod, but he let them believe whatever they wanted while he searched for the real killer. He must have encountered the killer, possibly dressed as the Headless Horseman and fled into the woods before meeting his untimely demise.
He began packing up his things. "This will hopefully be the last of these killings, though one can never be too optimistic. Rest assured, the killer will be found. and I can assure you, it will be no Headless Horseman, but instead a mortal man." He turned away from them, his case of tools held in his left hand and the large book he carried everywhere tucked under his right arm. The villagers seemed to be creeped out by the Constable's actions. Why was he staring so long at the body, why didn't he believe that they were telling the truth, and more importantly why did it seem like this murder was nothing? The villagers disbanded after the coroner took away the body, and everyone turned their backs to the woods, not realizing that more horror awaited them later.
// I saw this gif and I was reminded of the awkwardness of this scene, and since my creativity seems to spike at 1:20 in the morning I took it upon myself to rewrite this scene and make it less awkward. I love this movie to pieces obviously, but some scenes I feel were poorly executed. // |
