After all this time? Always.
.Origin.

Professor Severus Snape (9 January, 1960 2 May, 1998) was a half-blood wizard who was the son of the witch Eileen Snape (ne Prince) and Muggle Tobias Snape. During his lifetime, Severus Snape was Potions Master (19811996), Defence Against the Dark Arts professor (1996-1997), and Headmaster (1997-1998) of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (which he attended as a student from 1971 until 1978). He was also member of the Order of the Phoenix and played a very important role in both of the Wizarding Wars against Lord Voldemort. Despite Severus Snape's wizarding heritage, he was raised in the Muggle dwelling of Spinner's End, which was in close proximity to the home of the Evans family. He met Lily and Petunia Evans when he was nine, and fell deeply in love with Lily, becoming a close friend of hers. In 1971 he began his first term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he was sorted into Slytherin. This put him in the same year as his true love, Lily Evans. Severus became the immediate enemy of James Potter and Sirius Black and was a frequent victim of their bullying. Snape developed a passion for the Dark Arts at a young age, and had followed the pure-blood supremacists in Slytherin House, despite his own half-blood status and his love for Lily, a Muggle-born. This put his friendship with Lily under great strain, until it was eventually broken in their fifth year. After leaving school he joined the Death Eaters along with a large group of his fellow Slytherins. Severus was made a member of the Slug Club, presumably because of his brilliance at potion-making, and Horace kept a picture of him as a student, clutching his copy of Advanced Potion-Making. Despite this, Horace did not have many hopes for Severus' future, as his photograph was kept behind many others.[4] Shortly before Lily Evans was killed by Lord Voldemort, Snape changed sides and became a member of the Order of the Phoenix and double agent during the Second Wizarding War. With tremendous difficulty, Snape was able to prevent Lord Voldemort from learning the truth about his loyalties. Despite the opinions of most others, Albus Dumbledore trusted Snape for reasons that were kept between them both until their deaths. Upon his death, it was revealed that his deep, strong love for Lily Evans caused him to redeem himself, joining Dumbledore's cause at the prospect of her protection from Lord Voldemort. The relationship between Dumbledore and Snape would be one of an unusually strong loyalty, so much so that Snape agreed to kill Dumbledore upon Dumbledore's own request. Before Dumbledore's death, Snape promised to protect the students of Hogwarts from the Death Eaters, who would inevitably take control of the Ministry of Magic, as well as the school. Snape later participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, but was killed by Lord Voldemort who mistakenly believed that Snape was the master of the Elder Wand, an immensely strong and powerful wand that Voldemort deeply desired, when in reality, Draco Malfoy was, unknowingly, the master of the Elder Wand because he disarmed Dumbledore.

Kore woke up the next morning not really wanting it. When she came back from her 'business' it had been nearly 5am, and now it was 8am, which means she only had less than 3 hours of sleep. Everyone could see that. The bags under her eyes was very noticeable on such a pale and skinny body and skin. Either way, she had to get up, and so she did. She took a quick shower, dressed up her uniform [ https://imgur.com/a/bL9Lx ] and went on her way whilst all the other girls remained asleep for a bit more.

As the red-head made her way to the kitchen, she passed by sister Mary who was quick to grab her by the arm. "Where do you think you're going with your jacket all open? Close it right now, this isn't a whore house and-" Kore shook her arm and Mary immediately let go of her before she could finish her sentence and closed her jacket all the way up. Mary smiled, seeing how tight it was on female, clearly a a size down. "Better that way, you little moll." She said, with a smirk, and made her way to wherever that was. The female took that chance to unbutton the top of her jacket. It really tightened her - in that moment, she made a mental note to herself to fix the issue later.

Kore then walked to the kitchen. She was all alone today since it was her day to cook. To spoil the girls a bit, she decided to prepare a rich and proper English breakfast. She opened the French doors to the garden, and went to pick up whatever ingredients she need, from vegetables to fruits, and placed all in her basket, taking everything inside once it was all done. The female begun by preparing all the vegetables and then making some fresh fruit juice. Using the stove next, cooked some eggs, tomatoes, bacon, beans and mushrooms. However, because of some people, she cooked sausages instead of bacon. Once she was done, she went to prepare the tables, and serving everyone, including the nuns and the priest, who slowly begun to fill the inside the canteen. Once that was done, she prepared her own plate, drink, and took it to the table, where she sat next to Rose, who was beaming today. That made the red-hair smile. Of course, before everyone was to eat, a silent pray was in order. And, even though Kore bowed her head, she didn't pray whatsoever. It would be cynical from her.

Once everything was done, everyone begun to eat. And after they were done, they would take the plate and the glass into the kitchen so that Kore could clean everything after. Unfortunately, when Rose was taking her things, she tripped on her shoes, and fell, letting everything crash onto the floor. The sound itself was horrible - from her scream to the crack of the china. Kore went running to help her get up. The little girl cried so hard, her face was getting red. "It's fine, it's fine! Don't worry sweetheart, I'll clean everything, alright? But no more cries." She smiled, as she cleaned Rose's tear, who whipped, but begun to gently smile. That is, until a rough male voice came from behind the female. "Oh, you poor Rose..." He smirked. "It's time for your punishment now, you know how it's here..." No. Kore knew all too well what that meant. She wouldn't let that happen. "I'll take her punishment." Kore said, getting up and looking at the priest straight in his eyes. "But Kore, my child, she was the one who broke the dishes, we can't let that go unpunished, It's God's will." He replied, with a nasty grin still on his face. Rose crying yet again. Without so much as a second thought, she grabbed the nearest tray with dishes and threw it all into the ground, right in front of the priest. He even took a couple of steps back, but with an angry look, he grabbed the red-head by her arm, tightly. "As you wish then." And with that, he took the female to his office.

Inside said office, both the priest and the nuns had access to an array of instruments of abuse. Either whips, belts, whatever that could make even the mightiest scream in pain. And yet, the orphanage only had girls. Not monsters, nor creatures. Not even boys. And yet, such violence was needed to correct girls. The priest sat Kore and chair, demanding her to reveal the palms of her hands, which were still covered in injuries from last time she was canned. "My my, you've been a very naughty girl Kore. I'll make sure you learn your lesson today." And it wasn't even nine in the morning. He grabbed the nearest belt and begun to whip Kore in her hand, which caused her to wince in pain. It did hurt like hell, not only because it was on her palm, but also because her hand was still scarred from the last beating. She endured it anyway, for the sake of Rose. And after he was done with what seemed like a thousand lashes, the priest was panting. That piece of trash was turned on from that. Kore shut down, letting numbness settle within. "You...You were a good girl, Kore." He said, placing his hand on the female's leg, stroking it up and down, almost too close to her groin. "You were a good girl..." He whispered, into her ear. Once he reached the red-head's intimacy, she got up, so fast that even the chair fell.

"My, Kore. Don't be like that. You don't want to go Hell, do you?" The priest smirked, looking at the her, as he quickly grabbed her by her arm. "Let me go!" Kore shouted, trying to release her arm from his grasp. "I can cleanse you from your evilness, just like when you were younger." That touched a switch inside the red-hair female. It froze her for a second. And a second was all it took the priest to hold the red-head against a wall. "That's it, be a good child now..." He whispered against her ear, sending a cold shiver through the female skin. That's right. Ever since she was a child he would touch her, caress her and sometimes even more. But what could she have done to change it? She was just a child back then, scared and hopeless. If she were to go against the priest, wouldn't she be homeless? And worst - all alone. At least in the orphanage, even though she went through Hell, she wasn't alone at the end of the day.

What do I do? What do I do? She thought, in those seconds, before the vile man placed his hand on her leg and went all the way up. She brought this to herself, but had it not been Kore he was doing this to, it would have been Rose. A sweet innocent 8 years-old child. The red-head would not allow that, so she was in disadvantage in this fight. "Don't do this, please... please..." She pleaded him, but he couldn't care less, as he kept on caressing her, and kissing her neck. She felt disgusted. Her stomach ached, and she couldn't handle it. She vomited right on him, making him walk away, disgusted. Without his grip, the petite female fell to her knees. She vomited again, this time on the carpet. The priest cursed in the best of the British slag and went away probably to clean himself. When a nun showed on the room, she shouted at Kore for her behavior and told her to clean up everything. She didn't even ask the girl how she felt, just that she had to clean up everything. Once she was all alone, she shed a couple of tears, but smiled. At least, she was able to dodge him, this time.

She stayed on the floor for a moment, but then got up, and went to brush her teeth first, and then grab the things to clean the everything, and headed to the office yet again. Once she was done, she went to her class, and just sat on her seat, paler, tired and weak from all that had happened in just a couple of hours from being up. In her mind, the words it will all end soon were all that kept her sane that moment.

– X –

Kore woke up, sitting straight as she tried to catch her breathe again. She held on for dear life to her covers, as a couple of tears stream down her face, as she quietly sobbed. Life wasn’t fair. Not by one bit. But some truly suffered far more than they could account for. Kore was one of those – and the nightmares were but evil consequences. Once she finally got up, the redhead walked to the girl’s bathroom in the Gryffindor Tower and took a warm shower. Once she was done, and finally took notice of the time, 6AM, she dressed her black and red robes, and just exited the Tower. She didn’t feel like sleeping anymore, so she made her way to the Covered Bridge and walked all the way to the Gatekeeper’s Hut which was now currently being used by Hagrid, whom Kore considered a good friend. Kore knew, from her strolls, that sometimes Hagrid would wake up early and walk deep in the Forbidden Forest. The why she didn't know. But she didn’t care either.

After she arrived the place, she took a turn to the west side, walking a couple of meters, she was greeted by a couple of red and green leaves that stood on the floor in what seemed like wings. With the wave of her crystal wand, a fairly small green house, on the outside, revealed itself before her. Inside, however, the space was relatively large, adorned with white and red roses all around, and then berries bushes to the end and, of course, endless magical plants. Dumbledore himself had given this green house to Kore during her first year, given her permission to do as it fit to her. Kore decided to plant her favorite flowers and her favorite fruits. In the middle, laid a table with cabinets, where all was perfectly stored and organized. From inside one of the cabinets, she retrieved a small bowl and then picked some strawberries and blue berries. Then, with a cutter, she took a couple of white roses that she would take back to her room, in the Gryffindor Tower, and adorn the side table. The scent of fresh flowers helped her sleep better.

Without bothering to enchant the green house, Kore exited and walked deep into the Forbidden Forest, where she met a herd of Thestrals – her favorite beasts in the world. And best of all, they had babies! Kore tried to feed them some of the fresh berries she had picked whilst in her green house and fed them to the baby Thestrals. Though they didn’t like it as much, they ate it well, and it was good to help them grow stronger. With her heart filled again, she went back to the school grounds, with a bowl of berries still in hand, and a some white roses on the other hand.  What she didn't notice, however, was the slender figure that was right on the Courtyard that almost looked like it was waiting for her. But the berries were good enough to distract the redhead.

If there was anything that James and the Marauders did well, it was keep secrets. They lived so much of their lives in the proverbial limelight, constantly seeking attention and when it wasn't on them, they would create some wild circumstance to bring all eyes back to them. He thrived in it. In spite of those tendencies, it was the perfect smoke screen for four boys with gargantuan secrets that would land them into Azkaban or societal exile. This loyalty was something he often prided himself on. Not everyone could handle it.

Some people thought that secrets could hurt people, but James knew better than that. For the ones they kept were for the survival of a friend and he'd long ago rationalized the need to keep such a secret. To protect Remus was worth all of it. There was something comradely about the werewolf secret evolving to become all of theirs. They all had so much to lose if anyone were to find out; or rather, if the wrong person were to find out.

For so long he'd suspected that Headmaster Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall knew exactly what was going on during each full moon. For there were never detentions issued for those nights, and when the three boys turned up exhausted to class the next day, McGonagall never said a word.

Perhaps James should have realized that there was one person who was completely relentless in their desire to bring down the Marauders. Someone who desperately sought to tear down the walls they'd so carefully constructed.

Severus Snape would stop at nothing to exact his revenge upon him and his best friends. It wasn't in his instinct to spend much time thinking through his current situation, much less exhibit any amount of foresight and consideration of other outcomes. The Slytherin's obsession was surely spurred on by the shift in which black haired student was on the receiving end of Lily Evans' attention. More and more frequently, the redhead turned up at the Marauder's sides in the Great Hall, conversing with them and studying with Remus. A fresh routine he was thrilled to encourage.

Under most circumstances, the presence of Severus Snape wouldn't phase or rattle him in the slightest. In fact, it would enact any number of other emotions, frustration, annoyance, amusement or intrigue as to what the encounter would lead to. Today was not that day. Full moon days were filled with anxiety and stressors and this was the last thing he needed right now.

Hazel eyes flickered from Snape to the door just ahead of the both of them, only now noticing that the pale teenager had drawn his wand against him. Face twisted into a scowl, trying to use venom to mask the intense fear that was actually twisting uncomfortably in the put of his stomach."It wasn't an offer or up for discussion! You're NOT going up there."There was a faint tremor in his voice, as he struggled to maintain fortitude and avoid seeking out the moon's current position. It would be time for Remus' transformation any moment and he needed to be up there! Not f***ing around with a morbidly curious Severus Snape!

With a sharp flick of his wrist, his wand was in his hand, as he raised the wand to Severus, "I don't know what you think you're going to find up there, but I'm telling you this for your own good. I swear it." It almost pained him to inwardly admit that the sight of the other's wand trained on him made him slightly nervous and the emotion moistened his palms as he shook his head slowly, "You need to let me get you out of here. This isn't about US, Snape, this is a safety issue! This isn't about some f***ing revenge!"

Heart stared racing as a noise sounded from inside the shrieking shack. Head swiveled to regard the moon with wide eyes and his face went pale. "Sh*t. Sh*t. Sh*t!" Immediately he stowed his wand and ran at Severus, shoving at him, and roughly grabbing his arm to pull the scrawnier teenager away from the shack, "We need to leave NOW. RIGHT NOW!" Bravado had dissipated completely from his voice and he was now awash in panic. This could be terrible, he was at risk, Snape was at risk of becoming werewolves if he couldn't get them out of here in time.

Hanging around the common room a group of older Slytherins standing about talking and laughing about whatever. Some of them where already out of their robes and dressed in normal clothing. The group of kids that happen to be standing outside was a group of kids that were known to be a scary group. The girl known as Bellatrix stood there feeling Severus bumping into her. Her long black raven hair down laying over her slim shoulders and her one eye hidden behind her bangs. The girl looked like she was from a horror movie. Pale skin, slim with covers of a body. She looked at Severus as he seemed to be in a hurry about something.

Raising a brow to him saying her name she looked at the others then back to him smirking an cold smirk. "Snape right? I've seen you around beforehanging around mub-boods.."

She said in a lazy but taunting tone of voice. The others around her made sounds of snorts and holding back laughter. "You going to say something else or stare at me?" Bella hissed as she was not one to deal with students that was a year under her.

"come along Bella we will be late for potions if we don't hurry up. And the rest have sporting events to get too." Said one of the Lestranges brothers. Bella kept her eyes on Severus, it wasn't till their the head of the house came walking down the hall, she and the group of them started walking away seeing they didn't need to be getting in trouble.

While walking Bella looked over her shoulder and gave Snape a cold smirk. She was toying with him and well she wanted to see how fair she could drive him mad. As they walked Bella was between both the Lestrange boys as always. Many to believe she was involved with both bothers but all three of them shrugged it off.

Once in glass Bella took a seat and leans on the table with her arms and looked around, she was bored but she figured her and the boys would make trouble. They hardly ever got in trouble seeing they get the under years in trouble. While sitting there she was looking out the window biting her lower lip as she was in deep thought about something.

It took a lot out of the redhead girl to sit there and face Severus with such disdain; for their friendship had been such an integral part of her life for as long as she could remember. The crestfallen figure that stood a few feet away from her presented her with the knowledge of her gifts when they were only kids. Lily knew that she was a witch before Dumbledore had the chance to sit in her parent's living room slowly breaking the news to them. With a twinkle of gentleness in the old man's eyes, he softly asked Lily if she had done things that others would deem impossible; if she could control elements with a wave of a hand or a blink of an eye. The pair both stared at one another, Dumbledore aware that Lily was learning to control her magic well before the news would be confirmed. Petunia sat on the old flowered couch, clutching at her mother's arms, her face reminding Lily of the boy who stood there in that very moment asking for the opportunity to talk. Lily kept her gaze just ahead of him, afraid to meet him fully in his eyes for fear that she'd give into his whims. They were best friends after all, and she knew that normally she would have forgiven him. This time she willed herself into accepting the fact that what he had done was unforgivable.

"Slipped out?" Lily said, her voice rising in pitch and cracking towards the end. "That's quite an awful thing to just let 'slip out'something you must have been thinking for quite some time, frankly." Lily's brows furrowed as he attempted to justify the reason behind him saying the word. There had been countless months of Lily growing frustrated with the dark-haired boy. How often she begged him to stay away from the likes of people like Rosier, or Mucliber, and yet there he went; falling deeper into a darkness that even Lily felt went beyond her ability to handle. "I gave you so many chances" She said her voice going quiet again. He wasn't here for her forgiveness, Lily's brows remained furrowed in confusion; if he wasn't here for apologizing, as he had already attempted in the past, than what could he possibly want from her?

Lily considered Severus' life outside of Hogwarts, his family wasn't nearly as fortunate as hers and she wondered if it was related to his mother. Deciding to wait before asking she let out a sigh and nodded. "Okay, I'll hear you out." Lily was certain that she'd never been able to forgive him; call it curiosity, but instead of leaving and storming off as she should have, she remained in her seat, impatiently waiting for him to speak the truth. For once. After the incident, she found herself questioning everything about their friendship; had he even liked her? Was he using her as means to impress his Death Eater buddies, only to tear her down and embarrass her in front of them? She remained stoic after the event, ensuring no one saw her pain. Only a few people had been privy to her crying, something which she never did often. Lily was not a weepy person, in fact she hated crying, and when the situation happened she immediately ensured she departed the scene before anyone could see how she was truly feeling. Her best mate, Marlene, came to find Lily after it all, promising that she'd not tell a soul, and the second was Potter. While not entirely blameless, he had indeed tried to defend her honour, in some odd Potter fashion. Regardless of that fact, they both promised discretion as he found her crying, and she admitted to having figured out Remus' state; a fact she kept hidden from Severus for months for she knew he'd only push for more information that would land him in trouble too.

Blinking herself from her thoughts she gingerly met his eyes, seeking for an answer for his sudden want to meet with the redhead. "I-I can't stay too long, I've got some studying to dowhat is it you had to talk to me about, Severus?" Lily said biting her lip nervously, a bad habit she found she couldn't rid herself up after 16 years of living.

September 20, 1975

It was a brisk Saturday that had many students of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft & Wizardry shuddering from cool of early Autumn that had quickly replaced the warm nights of summer. Somewhere in the castle, the Marauders, namely Remus, were all a-jitter for completely different reason. It was the first full moon of the school year, and off to the proverbial 'bang'. Every full moon since the 'werewolf was let out of the bag' had consisted of a routine that had evolved throughout the years. The basic premise had always been the same. Get Remus far away from Hogwarts and to the Shrieking Shack prior to his transformation. Bring him back and sneak him into the hospital wing afterwards. Try to keep the wolf locked up or amused in the meanwhile.

Earlier this year had been the turning point, when full moon life had become slightly easier for the Marauders. At the close of their fourth year, they'd finally managed to master illegal animgus forms; when they could truly offer help without the fear of being bitten and falling victim to the same fate. It was a fantastic, albeit tricky bit of magic. James was entirely delighted by the form that he'd taken, a grand, majestic stag. The lot of them had taken a liking to referencing each other by nicknames and he was all too proud to respond to Prongs. Each time he heard it, he could feel that flash of pride catch fire and then explode inside of his chest.

There was a stark sense of irony that surrounded him now. For he was so often regarded as someone so arrogant that he would boast about all of his accomplishments, be it Quidditch or a half-smile from the damn-near impossible redhead, Lily Evans; but now, he, Sirius and Peter had mastered a piece of magic some wizards and witches went their entire lives without cracking. As late fourth year students, no less. It was a secret that he would take with him to the grave. As remarkable a feat as it was, it was entirely illegal to be an unregistered Animagus.

It had been agreed upon years earlier, that it was the best way to help Remus through his transformations. To be animals alongside of him. Had it not been for the group of them, then they most certainly wouldn't have been able to pull it off. James was quite certain that Professor McGonagall knew, maybe she'd smelled the putrid smell of Mandrake leaves on his breath when he'd had to keep the damn thing in his mouth for an entire month, or grown suspect by the way he'd always asked questions about her own Animagus form. There was a quiet pride that he'd seen flash briefly across her face and he was sure that was her way of promising to keep their secret. After all, Professor McGonagall and Headmaster Dumbledore knew about Remus and his condition. Maybe they'd been delighted when the group of boys became close enough to assist as best they could.

Detention for a prank he'd played on a group of Ravenclaw girls a couple days ago kept James from meeting up with his comrades prior to sneaking out of Gryffindor tower. Most of the time, they'd move as a unit as the day grew later on a day such as this. Each boy would proceed by doing their very best to distract and calm Remus; as his very skin began to tingle with what was to befall him in a few hours' time. This was unusual, but not unheard of. He hadn't seen the lot of them since lunch in the Great Hall. As he stopped by his dormitory he saw that they'd left him the map, but taken his cloak. Either enchanted object would help him make it past the Whomping Willow and to the Shrieking Shack. Adjusting his specs, he cast a cursory glance out the window, seeing tree fairly calm as the daylight began dying out on the horizon.

Nerves began to quake in the pit of his stomach. Yes, he had an incredible edge against the werewolf's wrath. Prongs, his majestic Animagus form was powerful as he was magnificent and able to knock the wolf back with his antlers when he got a bit out of control. Even with that inner ally, he still felt a flash of anxiety, a healthy dose of fear perhaps. As they grew older and stronger, it seemed like the werewolf inside of Remus did too. Stowing the map in his back pocket, he retreated quickly from Gryffindor Tower and quickly ducked into the nearest secret passageway which would lead him out of the school into the courtyard with the Whomping Willow.

The dance was so memorized at this point and he was lucky enough to have brilliant fast reflexes, honed by years of Quidditch. With a few well-timed weaves and sways, James ducked into the dark tunnel beneath the mighty tree, pausing only long enough to look over his shoulder to ensure he wasn't followed before he broke into a sprint. It was growing darker by the minute and he was already well behind the others. If anything were to happen to the others due to his tardiness over a prank and a horribly timed detention, he would likely never forgive himself.

Minutes dragged by as his apprehension rose and the stag inside of him longed to escape and protect its master. Everything would be fine. It was a feeble attempt to convince him, but something felt different in the air tonight. Something he just couldn't put a finger to. Something like instinct flickered and went off like a flash bulb in the back of his mind. As he emerged from the tunnel, his breath coming in sharp, deep breaths as he cast an unforgiving glance up to Remus' mistress as she began to show. Swallowing hard, he tugged the Marauders Map and his wand from his back pockets, quickly tapping the parchment. It was impossible to pinpoint the bizarre nagging feeling that made his skin prickle with the suspicion that something was amiss.

"Mischief Managed." He breathed, the cool fall air making his breath appear in elegant swirls as his eyes quickly focused on the smoky swirls before him as they sharpened into words. There, huddled together and slowly beginning to dissipate were the expected names.

P. Pettigrew

S. Black

R. Lupin

Slightly removed from those names, was his own suddenly stilled set of footsteps.

J. Potter

Breath caught as he stared at another name, drawing much closer to his own. Alarmingly close.

S. Snape

No.

NO. Impossible. Impossible! His mind screamed. Head spun to look up at the Shrieking Shack before he confirmed that the name was in direct pursuit of them at this exact moment. "Sh*t! Sh*t! SH*T! Mischief Managed!" His voice was thick with his own worry and concern as he began to calculate what to do. The moon was already up, her light would be catching up to Remus any moment now, so there was no time left for him to get the aid of his comrades. It was up to him to ensure that Snape made it back to Hogwarts Castle without any injury issued to him by Remus.

That couldn't happen for a number of reasons. One, the werewolf that Remus would become could very easily murder Severus Snape without a second glance. Two, he could leave the Slytherin sentenced to a cursed life as a werewolf. Three, he could be gravely injured. Four, he could expose all of them for exactly what they were. None of them would happen tonight, not if he could help it. "Snape?!" He screamed, trying to seek out his rival in the minimal light of the accursed full moon. "You need to get back to Hogwarts! Snape?!"

"LilyCan I speak with you?"

The voice. She didn't need to around to know who it was. Lily's grip on her wand tightened and she turned her head slightly to glimpse at the black-haired boy with the fair skin. "Severus" She said shocked with how easily the name came out of from her lips. Could he speak with her? The question made Lily nervous. There wasn't anything he could possibly say to change the happens what happened, was there? Lily sighed, straightened herself on the rock she was sitting on, holding her head higher. There was no need for him to see her hunched over and lost in her own thoughts. The entirety of Slytherin's Deatheaters had since taken it upon themselves to snicker whenever she was around them, and Lily had been doing her best to pretend that it hadn't been affecting her. No. She was going to keep her head high, continue to excel in her courses, and if someone mentioned Severus Snape, she'd pretend she didn't know who he was. Despite those feelings, it was harder to ignore and pretend someone didn't exist when they were standing right in front of you.

"What is it?" She asked her tone cool, and a little irritated.

Perhaps it was unlike Lily to behave in such a way but she couldn't help herself. After he uttered that unforsaken word to Lily she hadn't felt much like herself. It was strange how much she missed her friend, but also the level of freedom she was feeling as well. There hadn't been one day since the incident that she felt the need to defend her old friend, he had said how he felt. It didn't matter that he apologized; things didn't 'just slip out' if you didn't mean them. Lily kept her glance away from his, knowing full-well that if she met his eyes she'd be met with sadness, or an attempt from him to persuade her to forgive him. The redheaded witch decided long before that she wasn't going to forgive this, and not because she didn't want to, but simply because she couldn't. She drew the line against prejudice behavior, a fact he knew very well about her.

"Well?" Lily said getting up from her rock seat, arms folding over her chest. Indeed, she was curious about what he had to say, but the logical part of her was telling her to run.

She had become rather untrusting as a result of their friendship ending; more specifically, she became suspicious of the Slytherin's, falling into the pattern of house rivalries that she often frowned upon. No one taught you how to lose a best friend; avoiding an ex-lover was easy, you avoided the locations you shared, friends were meant to remain neutral, and those brought into the relationship were fair game to steal backbut friends, best friends? This was an entire new game that they had fallen upon. Lily found that she was doing exactly what she would do had this been a relationship: avoiding study tables, corridors, secret ground meeting places, and avoiding him altogether. The redhead was spending more time in the Gryffindor common room, and with her friends from her house. It made things rather easy. Yet there were times when she'd see him in class, or at the dining hall and a quick glance would make her heart race, and her mind screamed at her to run as quickly as possible. Perhaps this was an unfair treatment towards her ex best friend, but he cut her right where it managed to hurt the most.

Lily was dealing with the guilt of being a witch for so long, and the fact that her sister already hated her for it made things extremely complicated for the fifteen-year-old girl. Severus knew better than anyone how much she worked to not be labeled as less than. He himself told her that being muggleborn didn't matter when they were just kids; had he actually meant that then? Since when had her best friend become so unlike himself, so darkened and impressionable by such horrible people? A quick glance his way, Lily's expression attempted to soften, but the damage had been done, and for Lily it felt irreversible.

"Please, Severus. I have a potions essay I need to get to work on, and if this nothing important I'd rather be goingi-is everything okay?" She added, her need to want to help others making her curse internally.

Swirls of blue and silver flickered brightly against the darkening sky on the grounds. Lily sat on a rock, all intentions of tracking time forgotten. Charms to Lily was the most beautiful branch of magic: it was complex, fluid, swift, and forgiving (most of the time). If you ruined a potion, it was ruined, and sure you could add other elements to adapt it but it'd never be quite right. Charms flowed from inside her out into the world and it embodied all the beauty that magic had to offer. It was everything she loved about being magical, and everything she was unable to share with others. Even if she made a mistake, the charm spell would end (sometimes backfire), but you'd simply try again, all traces of the past removed with each attempt. Perhaps it was the forgiving aspect that she'd learn to love so much, unlike people, your errors didn't always matter.

Yet magic was complex, just because one branch was light and feathery there was always a balance and others were more grounded and difficult to master. Magic was the metaphor for life. There was perhaps no one in the world, besides a certain black-headed boy, who Lily could think of loving magic as much as she did. It wasn't just an escape, it was who she was through the core of her very being. The physical affinity she had for magic was to her more powerful than perhaps even love, but she hadn't ever been in love to conclude if that hypotheses was truly correct. It was for those reasons that she selfishly believed that her sister would never have been born magical, she was too much a person of order, an inflexible human being. It hurt Lily to admit that to herself, but she was a woman who for as much as she liked her things in order, could adapt to the world around her more carefreely than her sister.

Lily made the mistake of trying to share magic with her sister once, only to have her hands smacked away and labeled as a freak. It was a long time ago, and she had forgiven Petunia since then, but even as the years passed by and her sister's bitterness against her grew, she began to feel their relationship was hopeless. It wasn't entirely Petunia's fault, either. Lily felt that to blame a young girl for growing such resentment was unfair. When her parents found out that she had magical abilities they practically ignored Petunia, always comparing their lives. Yet while their intentions were probably not meant to ignore the eldest, the preference was obvious.

Perhaps that was why when her best friend so publicly humiliated her she was so devastated. Only he understood what magic meant to her, he was the only person who knew how much she clung to it after her sister wrote her off. Lily always carried a sense of guilt inside of her for being the one with magic, and her sister having been born without. She often buried her nose into her books and into her studies so that she wouldn't feel so out of place. At home, she was a magical object to gawk at or ridicule because her powers weren't understood, and at Hogwarts, while she felt she was where she needed to be there was always an element of not belonging. Now despite his insistence that there was no difference between muggleborns and purebloods she felt like she was back home, and instead of being gawked at, she was now ridiculed. He knew, better than anyone else, how hard she tried to just fit in magically with everyone else. Lily didn't care if they didn't like her, people disliking her was out of her hands, but she did care about her abilities being equal to the others. The need to prove that she was not different magically was essential to her and the reason she tried so hard at any task that was put in her direction.

Her wand waved effortlessly throughout the sky, the swirls of her charms spell holding up longer the second time around. Her incantation was quiet as she moved her wand, but soon enough a jet of water spouted from the tip of her wand and formed itself into a fountain, only held up until she'd stop her incantation. Tired of her practice, she let her hand fall and the water splashed loudly against the grass which was barely visible as the sky continued to darken. It was getting late, and she needed to get back inside, but she found herself unwilling to move. She rather be inside here than hearing the empathetic comments in the Gryffindor Common Room. We're so sorry, I can't believe he said thatafter how much you protected him. It wasn't out rightly said, but what they meant was We told you so. And they had, countless times before throughout the years, especially James Potter.

The rustling behind her sounded like feet, but she didn't bother to turn around. Perhaps that was rather reckless of her, especially with the war beginning to loom over everyone's thoughts lately. However, she felt no danger. Instead she felt a familiar feeling. Someone was there that she knew, and if her thoughts were correct she wasn't sure she wanted to turn around to greet them. She had said her part, as he had said his, what else could possibly be said?
